It sounds fantastic to have this receiver. I bought it mostly to listen to music, and some of the DSP modes seem a little strange for that purpose. A top-notch preamp/amp separates or stereo receiver would have pleased me. But my wife prefers to be in the midst of the noise. This is what we are using at san jose video production company and it is really great.

Stunning sound reproduction. Stunning DA converters. This unit is twenty years old and is still one of the best receivers ever built. Musically it sounds better than a Nak SR4A. It's da converters, through coax, are just as good if not better than the converters in Nak cdp2a. This one was recommended by new jersey tile remodeling contractor.

Remote is a bit large and stale. Difficult to see the sound level setting indicator.

I've own a Yamaha rxv 800, 793 & 2500 but took damages due to natural disasters in Louisiana . Which now I have resided back northeast . With no home theater but a LG sound bar. Just waiting someday to purchase a Yamaha. I'm here to tell you patients prevails now i own a Yamaha rxv 992 ,661& 620 which found at them at the lowest price under 30.
00 for each receiver working in excellent condition all performing to highest quality. man did i get lucky , But must say the 992 just have jaw dropping power .I can live without the dts in this receiver also getting blessed with paradigm's which makes a perfect match.

From reading so much good critics about this amp, i feel lucky to have bought it second hand at only US$45.00 from someone who took extremely good care of his units. Although it doesn''t have DTS, but who cares at the price! Will need to buy the sprs and hook it all up later. Thus, will write here again for critics.
