Strength:

Product history,Style,and Sound

Weakness:

It was kind of heavy to carry to the car. :)Well I couldnt think of anything wrong with it!!

This is my first Yamaha product.I have alway eyed these but never bought one.(WHAT A FOOL I WAS) The upgrade started with a friend at work..... He was selling a DVD player (RCA)
I brought it home and was amazed! Well from there I bought ne Klipsch SF-1 (also WOW factor of 10).Well hell I am half way there why not upgrade to DD to take advantage of the DVD player and new Klipsch! I drove up to my most favorite aromic store(You know that smell of new audio stuff, dan they should bottle it!) Anyway I said "Larry" (Store owner) I have "about" $400 and Im not leaving without a YAMAHA RX-V595!! He said lets fire on up!! He put in a JAZZ cd (like most higherend stores do) and was totaly amazed at the clean, powerful, and expensive sound from this! He even played them through the same speakers I had bought from him just two weeks earlier. He gave me the "BEST LOOKING " remote I have seen since he had B&O in the store.(You can only buy B&O from their retail stores now).I cranked tweaked DSPed,and just plain listened to this unit with amazement! Then he came in and put on Dances with Wolves on the Yamaha DVD player wich was hooked up to a LOEWE 35" Letterbox tv ($5000).He jumped to the scene whe Cosner jumps the fence and rides between the troops. When they start shooting at him I heard the bullet whizzing between me and Larry! I believe I said" HOLY $HIT!!! Larry just smiled. That kind of smile like well "Ive got him hooked ha He will pay full retail now!" The next thing I remeber was writing a check for $474.00 Icluding MA 5% tax and a Optical cable for the DVD player!!!!!!!!!
Now I have it in my house the sound is een more powerful than at the showroom. I like the remote, I will just have to get used to just having ONE remote to lose now! I paid over $475 for my SONY STR-D1011 that this unit replaced! This is THE BEST money I have spent on audio stuff! The classic Yamaha look is well "classic". Clean front panal, very nice rear panal, and the sound is very "expensive" sounding! If someone is reading this review..still Then I would say RUN DONT WALK TO BUY THIS!!
If you live in Massachusetts give me an email and I will point you to Larry! He is good people! How bad can he be he sells Yamaha! RATING ***** (my own five stars)

Strength:

Clean, crisp sound, DTS, bang for the buck, does not produce a lot of heat.

Weakness:

Yeah, okay - the remote's a little bit whacked, (but it's definitely a conversation piece).

I live in a decent-sided two bedroom apt. in North Jersey. It has a big LR with high ceilings, and this 70w receiver fills it with no problem. It's running through DCM fronts and center, and Carver surrounds, and it's just amazing. I highly reccomend this product.

Yeah, okay, the remote's a little...unusual, but look at it THIS way...my girlfriend couldn't figure it out for the life of her, so she's given up trying to swipe it.

The DTS is incredible, it sounds great through the tuner, CDs, and cable, and so it only has a few sound fields - how many different sound fields do you need? Unless another company really opens my eyes, or I start making a LOT more money, I'll never buy anything other than a Yamaha (or maybe a Denon) again.

For reference, anyone that buys one of these - spend the extra four or five bucks for the DTS versions of DVDs when they're available. Having heard Saving Private Ryan in Dolby Digital, and then returning it two days later when I found out they made a DTS version, the difference is just unbelievable.

Strength:

Powerful sound. Dolby 5.1 and DTS. Remote capability.

Weakness:

Remote confusing, small buttons. No digital record out.

I replaced my budget driven Optimus (stop laughing) home theatre receiver with this Yamaha based on reputation and the other reviews posted here. I am totally sold on Yamaha, and subsequently purchased a Yamaha CD Player, then a CD Recorder. Too bad I have a Panasonic DVD or I would also buy a Yamaha. Maybe the Panasonic will die early.

The sound is unbelievable for a 70 watt unit. I was initially pessimistic, believing that more power was automatically better and less was worse. Not True! Yamaha uses technical "magic" (I am not a technophile like many of the reviewers, just an ultimate listener) to get everything possible out of the 70 amps available. I use the system to drive Definitive Technology speakers (which I also love), and with CD player and DVD using optical digital hookups the sound is awesome.

The remote is both good and bad. No problem with universal coverage of all components, but could use bigger buttons.

Strength:

Great sound,flexible usage(music/HT),Many I/O

Weakness:

Volume light, remote needs light (rotary hard to see)

Great foundation to anyone building a home theatre. This receiver offers maximum set-up flexibilty and superior sound. (Compare to those costing twice as much)(I paid about $500can)
Only improvement, the remote needs some back-lighting to be functional in the dark. (small beef, after using for over a year I can operate it in the dark...wife is not to happy though)
I run this with the following:
Paradigm Titans (fr)
Paradigm Atoms (r)
Paradigm cc-170 (c)
Paradigm PDR-12 (sub)
Tosh 3109 DVD

You will not go to the movies again!!!
(maybe for Gladiator!)

Try...Cirque de Soliel "Quidam", World Is Not Enough, Lost in Space, for starters.

Strength:

DD and DTS decoding and crystal clear sound.

Weakness:

No Pre-outs.

If you're looking for an inexpensive A/V Receiver, there really is no doubt. Yamaha has done a great job, this product includes DD/DTS decoding, DSP, plenty of inputs and it's even cheap. The RX-V595a plays good and clear, and is one of the best receivers when it comes to using the Sub-channel in DD as it gives it the right impression of reality. I got mine for $600 and have alot of money left for cables or other accesories.

Strength:

Good features, Reliable

This system has all the features I need. Not the most powerful unit around. The only added feature would be AC3 decoder. This meets my needs very well at a good price/performance.

All the Yamaha audio equipment I've purchased over the (many years) is still working. Reliable equipment, competitor please note!

Strength:

All round beautiful sound for all kinds of music

Weakness:

Not the prettiest unit around.

I tell you, I looked around at many different stores and for the price, Yamaha is way ahead for sound. These guys make musical instruments so they know what a bass drum or a violin should sound like! Don't kid yourself, forget Sony, Kenwood man, go and listen to a Yamaha.

I have Mission 701 speakers and it rocks. No sub yet, but really don't need one. The Yamaha unit pumps pumps out all the sound and the drivers in the Mission love it.

Everlast on this system sounds unbelievable.

And both Yamaha and Missions were cheap at A&B sound in Calgary.

Check these guys out and thank me later.

Strength:

Clean natural sound

Weakness:

wacky remote,

I have owned this receiver for about 10 months ( RXV-595 ) .
I think this product is made very well will with more than enough
power 70 watts ( that blows away my old 100 watt Sony )
its trure there's not alot of bells and whistles but it sounds great, and
yes the remote does suck , you might want to replace it. I did with
the Marantz RC2000 mark 2 . I use the Yamaha with Paradigm
Monitor 3"s for my mains , Paradigm CC-150 for my center, Paradigm mini's for my rear and yes Paradigm PDR10 Sub. I beleive you get what you pay for and for this type of price range you realy can't find a better sounding system for the dollar. My only
wish is that this unit had more optical inputs .But if I want that I would have to jump to the next model which I cant afford. If you are looking into a receiver you cant go wrong with this unit for price, quality, sound, and yes the great Yamaha name.

Strength:

AC3, input-channel for future decoding, dolby surround, extreme sound quality, etc. etc.

Weakness:

None that I have found so far.

The Yamaha RX-V 595 is the best hi-fi product I've had so far. It's expensive and worth the money.

Strength:

Crisp clean, clear mids, crispy highs and clear lows. Just enough number of modes so that you don’t need a battle tank to hunt rabbits. Ideal sort of a trade off for someone who doesn’t want to have 2 receivers, 1 for movies and another for Music

Weakness:

No Svideo and it really matters

I was reading reviews about the Receiver to buy ,I had cornered it down to Yamaha, HK or Denon and the budget capped at 500. I bought RX-V 595 for $ 275 without the remote( PC Richards), which has turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Fronts and Center are Technics and Rears are Kenwood. I am currently using all towers (Xept center)and the response is quite good .The CDP is onkyo 6Disc changer
The remote is SL9000 hometheater master which is a great buy at 90$( CNET.com and look for remotes ). Controls most of the equipment (Toshiba, Sony, Onkyo , Yamaha Denon, Teac ,Kenwood ive tried so far)
The music is running most of the time so I feel this receiver is sooooo good for even music keep all the effects off just use tone controls.
For the movies this receiver sounds great esp the THX certified movies are absolutely wonderful. The 70mm movie mode is absolutely unbelievable seems to fill the being with sound and has enough power to kick butt.
It does generate some heat so be careful what you put on top of the receiver may be vcr but not cdp or dvp.
Talking about 70 watts it is Yamaha’s 70 watts which is surely much higher than Sony’s 100 watts !!!! I havent been able to run it more than 35% of the volume.
I used certain songs to test coz I have tested them on other units some kind of yardstick for my use
Bass Guitar Test: Steely Dan …Drums Test: Megadeth Rust IN peace…( Also steely dan live )
Mids and Riffs: Black Sabbath ,ACDC
For the vocal Mids Stairway to heaven
It sounds good with MC hammer and Vanilla Ice too
Movies: Top Gun , Scream2, Tomorrow Never Dies, Broken Arrow

If you are a limited budget audiophile I definitely recommend Yamaha products coz they make musical instruments too and know how a bass drum a guitar pick or a violin must sound like. Shop around don’t need to pay list of 499$ for it. Used to use Sony STR DE 835 before and now things have changed and there is no looking back
I feel this unit by far exceeds most of the expectations for the $$$ you pay .I rate is as even $$$$$ the best 500$ money can buy
