Strength:

I had a Yamaha HTR 5230 and a Yamaha EQ 70 hooked up to my main speakers before. Now I have the Yamaha RX-V1300 hooked up to my mains now. I'm still playing around with the settings but the difference is noticeable. The old HTR had a sweet spot, which i thought was from the speakers. The RX-V gave my speakers a much wider imaging area. The sweet spot is everywhere! So far, I am very pleased with this receiver. It's very powerful and gave my speakers a better sound and better imaging. What really surprised me is how well it sounds without an equalizer. If you can find this receiver in good condition...get it!

Weakness:

Haven't found any yet. Still in testing stages.

Strength:

Overall solid build. Has served me well for audio. back panel has ample connections.

Weakness:

6ch input goof-up has rendered it useless. Pre-set crossover. Slightly on the brighter side.

I am back after using this receiver for 2 years. If you are using the 6ch input for sacd and you want to play a stereo CD on the same source, you will get no LF signals out! If you want to switch between 6 channel sacd to cd, you have rewire to get LF signals (unless you have large mains - then you can redirect). This is a bad slip up considering its yamaha.

Strength:

Many inputs

Weakness:

Style is not there... its just too plain looking. Sound is not realistic.

Ok product, cannot compare to some of the high end onkyo's that i have listened to. sound is average and somewhat unrealistic. This receiver has many inputs that come in handy for multiple connections

Great receiver...everything I could hope for at the $500 price tag. For the record, a previous poster mentioned that there were no coaxial digital inputs for a DVD player. This is not correct - all of the coax digital inputs are assignable. You can go through menu setup process and assign them to anything you want. I have the receiver paired with the JBL Northridge Series speakers (towers in front, N26s in back) and movies sound absolutely amazing. I don't have a sub yet, and to be honest, I'm not sure I even need one. Highly recommend.

Bought this Yamaha to replace a 10 year old Pioneer 100 watt/channel receiver. The Yamaha is better. Use with Klipsch RC-7, et.al. Very good sound.

The Yamaha RX-V1300 was the best reciever of the bunch (sony, denon, onkyo, ect.) for under $1000. The features, build quality, and sound are far supperior to anything other brands are offering. I use this thing for everything-mp3's, dvd's, xbox (splinter cell in Dolby Digital is incredible!), and college football (in church mode it sounds like you are actually in the stadium, as the anouncers echo). Anyone with some brains and some bucks should at least listen to this reciever because it will blow the competition away.

Strength:

Learning remote with thousands of preset devices already in it. Good power, clean crisp bold sound. Good looking.

Weakness:

Missing the feature of converting video up/down from input source so I can run just component or s-video to my display system. But it's not too bad. Everything is s or component so I run component direct to the TV, all S goes through the receiver. Works out well.

Well, this was an upgrade from a Yamaha RV702 and what an upgrade it is! Before purchaing the 1300, I had recently put together a home theater system for me dad using an Yamaha RXV-1200 and was very delighted with the power, features, style and pricepoint. So when I went to get the same thing, I saw the 1300 for the same price (just released to market) and it was no-brainer. More power for the same money as the 1200. And that is essentially the only feature difference if I recall correctly. Both support THX, ES, DTS, full range of DSP features, lots of optical digital in/out hookups, even on the front panel, plus s-video and component video for pushing through all my AV. One of my friends is a Sony die hard and really likes their ES line, but this has all the features and power for a bit less in cost. Plus, Sony's have a noted history of occasionally shipping a lemon and they are an ordeal to get fixed. I have quite a mix of AV equipment and it is all hooked up nicely to the receiver, all with their own settings stored. The learning remote hits all the major buttons and has a nice feature of always turning the TV on or off regardless of what is feeding it with the TV power button that stays programmed once you set the TV. With the learning feature, any special features are programmed to the extra keys. I run a Pioneer 300 CD changer, a JVC TV, JVC VCR, a Sony tape deck (no remote features :( ), a Dish Satellite receiver, and a Toshiba 5-DVD changer. It was pretty easy to get the remote to control everything with only a few dozen individual buttons to learn (esp for the CD changer to give it search/title/random/display features). I have been extremely happy with this receiver!!! I have set it up with a system of Earthquake speakers (5+sub). I highly recommend this receiver and many of its Yamaha siblings. Very crisp, solid sound, easy controls, great looking box.

Strength:

Power & clarity. Sounds as if you are there. Solid Built Learning Remote Clean cut look, OSD Lots of features & DSPs Lots of I/O, assignable

Weakness:

Limited bass management Only avaliavle in black (TITANIUM too but only in UK!??? THX would have been nice

I am completely blown away by the build quality and the sound this amp produces. Its got loads of power, which is way under-rated by todays standards (eg Sony would claim ~140W RMS if it was their product). It sounds clear and acurate even at the loudest volume I could bear. Its the most natural sounding receiver I have ever heared, and gives you that "I'm there" feel. It sounds great with everything I tried on it (music, video, games) DSP modes are actually useful compared to those of other receivers. OSD is great and allows for lot of customisations. Highly recomended, and as future proof as receiver can be.

Strength:

Easy to use. Remote works well. Easy to set up. OSD is pretty good.

Weakness:

Limited memory on the remote. After running learning mode on my VCR, it ran out of memory. I don't like the tiny tuner control buttons hidden behind the drop-down door. I use these buttons a lot, so I wish they were more convenient.

A wonderful receiver. I use the pre-outs for my front soundstage, so the unit stays cool. The wife and kid find it very easy to use.

Strength:

power, build quality, surround soud modes, clarity of amps, bang for buck

Weakness:

NONE!

This is for Reddy-the 5590 ONLY HAS SUBWOOFER PRE-OUT, not a full set of pre-outs like the 1300. This will limit your expandabilty options. I went with the 1300, and after owning it for 8 months I can say I absolutley love it! This one will be in my equipment reack for years to come!!! Highest recommendation!!!
