Strength:
Pre-amp outputs for all channels
Weakness:
Lack of S-video inputs for DVD or Satellite receiver I purchased this unit to upgrade to Dolby Digital. I also purchased a Dolby Digital Satellite receiver and a DVD player at the same time. I purchased this unit because of the preamp outputs. I use it as a preamp. There are no outstanding strengths in my opinion. It simply does its job as a HT preamp in my system. I don't have any real complaints except one. That's the S-video inputs and outputs. I didn't really think much about s-video until I purchased a s-vhs vcr. I wanted to tape using s-video from my satellite receiver. It was then that I realized the 1105 has s-video inputs and outputs for a s-vhs recorder, but it has NO other s-video inputs! Therefore, there is a s-video output to the vcr that outputs NO SIGNAL! The 1105 does not do composit to s-video conversion. Who designed this unit? This has really turned me off to Yamaha. I purchased the RV1105 from Onecall. I ordered on Wednesday and received on Friday. Great service. The 1105 sounds incredible with movies watched thus far. I have this paired with Atlantic Technology Compact Theater Two and a Toshiba SD2109 DVD Player. |

Just the type of performance you'd expect from a piece of equipment with Yamaha's name on it. I've had mine for 2 months now and it's spectacular. I upgraded from a Yamaha RX-550 I've had for about 10 years, it was time to move into home theater. I just love the absolute flatness of the Yamaha Natural Sound. With 85 watts all around, it's strong enough to power my Def Tech BP 10s. |

I just got this receiver after months of research.Paid $699 at Sears.Could have done better price wise but it was &799 and I didn't want to wait anymore.I always wanted a Yamaha receiver but most top of the line models were very expensive. The Yamaha RX-V2090 was my first choice a few years ago.My budget fit the Sony STR-D1011, a very good receiver. Having this receiver now with DD, DTS and other options, there is no comparison. The sound on this machine is clean and very powerful. If you get this machine, don't use crappy or inferior speakers, you should have bought a low end receiver.A receiver will only sound as good as the speakers it's matched up to. For the guys worried about S-Video,the quality of the analog output from any DVD is quite adequate. I have to turn down my sharpness on my TV to actually make the picture better. It was that good of a signal. |

Strength:
Underated at 85 watts,Heavy ,great construction,12,00 uf capacoitors(big for great dynamic headroom ,not many amps now days have big capacitors)Coling fan
Weakness:
None Sorry about the rude review but thuis reciever is awsome for the price and the stereo sound will give ,Hafler,Luxman,Sansui,B&K,Bang and Olufsen a run for ther money..Response is very nuetral from 10 to 50,000 hertz. The auto digital in is awkward but almost handy once your used to it.Remote is slim and proggramable and the sound is so much crisper than the 85 watts at 20 to 20,000 hertz at .04 THD suggests.I belive Yamaha heavily underates their power. This amp blew away my buddys Denon in stereo and surround and was as loud and clear as a Hafler 220 power amplifier(220 watts RMS,440 PEAK).It weighs about 35 to 45 (alot compared to most mid-fi/hi-fi amps out there at any price)pounds which is a sigh of good construction like the large power transformer ,aluminum front panel, and large capacitors. It makes you only want to liscen to CDS or a DVD audio with good recording quality in Digital Optical out or Coax or in at least 44.100 PCM or better to take advantage of its Valve amp like sound and great DAC's.Overall it reminds me of my old Luxman l-407 amp with 5 channels of sound and a sub out. Strength:
Regular Dolby Surround, Very solid Digital Surround and have not yet listened to the DTS. This reciever has one of the clearest sounds I've ever heard. Plenty of options and allows you to customize everything. I also like the universal remote.
Weakness:
I don't know if I just listen to My NHT's loud or what but the reciever get's pretty hot at times. Doesn't have a built fan like my old Nakamitchi I like this reciever a lot. It doesn't look very big and thick like some of the better ones out there but it makes up for that with it's clarity and ability to do many things very well. I think that is a good value because it would work as an excellent pre-amp if you wanted to get a nice amp in the future. Similar Products Used: Nakamitchi (Same Powerful Clear Sound) |
