Strength:

stands the test of 5 years and still going

Weakness:

i can't really say

I can truly say this is a great reciver. Puts out great power if needed, yeah it may overload and shutoff but thats just a safety device so you won't fry your unit. you can always put a fan pointed at it when playing it extremely loud to keep air flow and won't shut off. i've had my unit for 5 years and it plays like new. Technics puts out great equipment, from technics 1200's to recivers.

Strength:

good paper weight

Weakness:

expensive paper weight

Crappy. I too thought it was a decent reciever when I got it, but now that I have a need for more inputs (including component) and have realized how crappy Pro Logic is compared to Digital Logic, I wish I hadn''t wasted the money. Basically, everything on this device is outdated. I will definately move onto Yamaha.

I used this amplifier/receiver for less than a year and all the audio-in's have gotten the one after the other a nasty, dampened sound. Maybe my pc sound-cards(2) send too much power to the in's, but i never had this with Sony or Pioneer equipment. The dolby pro logic sux too. Don't buy it, if you wanna enjoy your ears for years. Thinking about a Yamaha amplifier for the next buy, got good reviews for almost all products.

Strength:

Phat Bass Levels with standard speakers

Weakness:

None I have found.

This Amp with supplied surround sound speakers is phat the high and low levels are amazing. I run a cd, a minidisc, my dvd, and my tv thru this amp and they all sound superb. The surround sound on DVD's is so good, its unbelievable. I heartily recommend this amp to anyone. This cost me £140 GBP complete with all five speakers, what a bargain.

Strength:

Low price, good design, remote control working with other technics models...

Weakness:

No 5.1 output

This is a great amplifier whatever other people says!
Of course it's not perfect(200$ for a technics what would you expect?)but it's a Technics, has quite enough power (except you want to kill your neighbours...) Few bass so that you have to use it with an active subwoofer (there is a subwoofer output but wich is not amplified so...) Never got any problems with it! I don't know what others reviewers did with their own but mine is fine altough it was often carried and used with computers and many other various inputs...
So if you're not billionaire and don't care about DTS this is I think the best buy you can make...

Strength:

Lots of inputs

Weakness:

Failures over time

It started off being the best thing since sliced bread, then slowly the inputs have failed. The wiring is confusing at times and the Pro-Logic can be VERY bad. Avoid it if you can... I payed £250 (around $400) for mine less than 18 months ago and it's already for the scrap heap. I expected better!

It is great for a starter system but if you value your sound quality I'd not recommend it. It also works ok in a Nicam environment and the remote works other Technics separates, making life easier. Alas, it's grace is not saved, I won't buy Technics again.

Strength:

I found this receiver to be a great value for my third receiver purchase. Puts out huge sound hooked up to my Technics speakers in 2 channel stereo. Has plenty of inputs and outputs including DVD audio. Has Dolby ProLogic and 3 Stereo.
Sometimes overloads when cranked up for long periods of time, but I have 4 speakers hooked into to 2 channels.
A great beginning level receiver for the money. After this purchase, I swear by Technics and Panasonic brand products.

Weakness:

No Ac-3 or DTS, but these formats didn't become mainstream until after I purchased this receiver. No subwoofer channel.

A great value for anyone building their first system.
