Strength:

Excellent for a stereo system. Sound quality, price and features

I needed a receiver that only had 2 channels for speakers because it would be for my stereo set up. Having owned a Technics SA-EX540, which is for five channels, I looked at it's sister product, the SA-EX140 which is two channels. Having appreciated the quality of the EX540, I knew that the SA-EX140 would be the perfect receiver for my stereo system. If you are looking for a receiver that can do the basics, and you have stereo speakers (as opposed to a five channel setup), then you may want to consider purchasing this product. It has not disappointed me any.

Strength:

Inexpensive. Does what it''s supposed to

Weakness:

None apparent

$109 on sale. Basic unit that does what it''s supposed to. Tied into a 1970s quadraphonic decoder so all 4 channels output synthesized quad. For the money you can''t beat it. In 1975 an equivelent unit was $500

Strength:

Great for the money.

Weakness:

None that I can complain about. I even like the little remote.

This little stereo amp is very very good at what it is supposed to be: A basic, no frills receiver. I bought a similar Technics model for my son 20 years ago. It had wood-trim sides, analog dial, and no remote. It is still doing fine as a second unit for him. I bought this one for our beach condo...where I can''t and don''t want to install surround sound, etc. The tuner is excellent with a simple T-wire antenna which I hid up behind some drapery door coverings facing the beach. Plays through AR speakers. Other components are DVD/CD player, VCR, Cassette deck, and 27" Toshiba TV. (My main system at home is all vintage McIntosh by the way).

Strength:

Powerful clean sound. No hissing or fuzz. Remote control with powered volume.

Weakness:

Only a or b speakers at once not both. Not powered bass, treble and balance controls. Tuner (before I fixed it)

Great ampifier. I had blown my sx 780 and was looking for a new amp to replace it. Finally I got one as a gift for my birthday as a total surprise. Well I took it home, hooked it all up. The sound of it was amazing. I'm currently using some crap realistic speakers but am going to buy jbl nd310's to go with the amp. I've seen people complain about the tuner and I also had a problem with it. What I did was I took at 50ft section of speaker wire that I had lying around and since this was in my basement I strung it around and connected that to the amp. Well now lets just say I can pick up nearly any signal it's so strong. The power of this thing is outstanding, I could easily blow the speakers i have right now so I'm trying to be careful with it. I'm using it through a mixer which has my computer as the input as well as a tape deck and cd player. As for the only single speaker set at a time. I don't really see this as a problem. It keeps the load at 8ohms instead of forcing the amp to work at 4ohms as it is with most stereo powered amps. I think that was the reason I blew my original amp was because I was doing a party with 4 speakers rather then the normal 2. Couldn't have been more pleased with it!

Strength:

I really enjoyed the sound quality that this reciever had.

Weakness:

Needs a decoder.

I bought this reciever in Febuary 2001. I have used it since, and have enjoyed it. I have a pair of Sony SS-MF400H speakers which I added in August and they sound great. This reciever gives out plenty of power and I it can really get these sony's pumping. This Christmas I will be getting a new reciever because now that I have a DVD player I would like to add surround sond. For any one who is looking for a reciever this is a great one for a first time buyer. You wont regret it.
