Strength:

Easy setup - About as easy to use as you can get. A true bargain at under $200.00

Weakness:

Remote a bit had to read -minor inconvience.

A great bargain which has plenty of power, excellent definition and a snap to use. You would be hard pressed and have to spend an awful lot more to see much improvement over this receiver.

Strength:

Great Rear Speaker Controls. Seperates Sounds Nicely.

Weakness:

Limited Bass without Sub Woofer

Superb Sound Quality. Remote a little simplistic compared to high end Sony Models. Volume is softer than my 1994 Optimus model as that was 150 Watts per channel. With only 5 Sound Fields it is a little low, but it would cost another $100-$300 to get more sound fields, S Video in/out and a Digital Out.

If you are looking for a bargain receiver this might be it. Techincs will not be produced in 2002 as Panasonic is developing new markteting plans.

Strength:

Good sound, Easy operation, Low price, Runs cool.

Weakness:

Quoted 100 Watts into 6 Ohms = 75 Watts into 8 Ohms.
Poor but adequate remote.
I miss seperate volume control knobs for each channel.
No Dolby Pro II.

Power adequate for 20X20 foot area. I am feeding center channel through another amp to give better adjustment control to DVD voices that are directed through center. I would have liked Pro II but I have no experience with system so I was not willing to pay a lot more for this feature. I wanted to keep the cost low because I know how quickly new advances out-date equipment. Money is better spent on good speakers which have a much greater impact on a systems sound. The frequency response of the amps is 40-20KHz, I doubt that my Polk speakers go down to 40Hz. The SubWoof output goes down to 7Hz which more than covers up any missing low end surround response.
I find that the pre-amps on most receivers are not set up to deliver full power from the final amplifier stage so I may add a preamp later. There is no pre-amp output so adding amplification to Digital Stream Inputs is not possible.
Once I got used to the controls I found this receiver easy to operate with clean, hiss free sound. My hearing would not be good enough to tell the difference between the DX950 and top of the line Denon or Onkyo.

Strength:

Great sound, looks great! Stereo mode is unbelievable

Weakness:

Needs subwoofer for bass in DD and DTS

I had the 940 but after a massive thunderstorm had to repair it and did not sound the same again. I decided to stay with Technics and got the 950. And I am impressed! While the 940 was great the 950 has the best stereo sound I have ever heard. Even in surround while watching DVD's I hear sounds I never even heard with the 940. The only problem is that you will need a subwoofer when watching DVD's but after I got one, there is not complaints any more.
BUY IT!!!
