This post is to inform you of the previous review made by MacPherson a.k.a Harris from NJ. This guy is an idiot and does not know any better. Please disregard his reviews. If you ever read a review comparing a Harman Kardon and Sony product, it was probably posted by that jerk. Apparently he has a thing against Sony. Seek help Harris. Once again, he does not know any better. I own the 935 and works just find. For $379, you can't beat it.

I bought a STR-DE935 about a month ago and love it. The only draw back is the remotes ease of use. I got this unit for $377.00 at Happy Medium and couldn't expect any more bang for my buck! Nice unit!

You cannot beat a receiver with this many features for the price of under $500. Features from dts decoding to being able to fine tune your listening enviroment down to wall height and reverberation is fantastic. Great "Digital Cinema Sound" modes replicates Hollywood editing studios in your living room. Remote is a bit fussy at first, but you don't buy a unit for the remote anyway. Awesome virtual multi-dimentional modes simulate 5 extra sets of speakers enveloping you in sound even from just two speakers (I tried it, it works; not as good as a whole speaker set-up though)! If you want excellent sound and great features at a great price, this one's for you.

About 2 months ago I began looking for a receiver to use with a newly acquired DVD player. I have to say it was not easy. There are many choices out there and many different prices. I didn't want to spend a lot of money. My goal was to stay between $300 and $500. Ultimately my decision was closer to $500 ($476 at Best Buy). But at this moment I have no regrets. Well maybe one -- I'm spending more and more money buying DVDs with and without DTS (I love DTS). I have watched or listened to a DVD/CD every night for 1 month using this receiver and have no complaints. I was concerned that I might run into problems because of the many poor reviews found on this web site. But not a single problem has yet to arise (knock on wood).
As for the unit getting too hot. When I first set it up I placed my DVD player on top of the unit. I did notice after a while that the unit and my DVD player felt extremely warm. After reading about heat problems on this site I switched the positions of the two units. Now my STR DE935 sits on top of the DVD player allowing the vents to be truly free. I no longer have any heat problems. I can see how if the unit is stored in a closed stereo case with little ventilation it could burn up. But keep it ventilated at it's fine.

If you are looking for a good receiver that can handle new technologies becoming more and more popular every day the STR DE935 is a safe bet. If you do get a lemon -- bring it back and get a new one.

It has been about 3 weeks of constant power and movies and music. Mainly movies. And I have only noticed the crackling on two movies they were Star Trek: Insurection & Star Trek: First Contact. And on both it was during the credits. Makes me think that Paramount had problems not Sony. The DD is GREAT! This is by far the best my system has sounded ever. And even my wife can notice a difference. She dosen't have the ear nor the demand that I can put on a product. Have put it on a very hard test to see if i can break it. Or at least dent it. And have kept it on for long periods of time and Have not really noticed the heat. It does get hot but not abnormally hot. I am going to bump up my rating on this to a 5 cause I feel that it is worth it. I'm sorry that some of you are having bad luck I guess i am a lucky one.

Stay away from this receiver, and the 835. I have had four different units, and ALL of them had problems. They ranged from poppping in the surround channels to bad amps. Sony is looking to sell products based on name recognition, and tryin gto rip off the public by churning low quality, consistantly defective 835 and 935 recievers. I have been a big fan and defender of Sony until this point. Their qulaity control has gone right down the crapper. Read the other reviews here. Buying one is like playing Russian roulette. One person's 935 is fine, the next two are devective. I gave up on Sony-got tired of constantly standing in the return line! Check out the Onkyo TX-DS 575. I have one, and it sounds great, and is very well built. The Onkyo is worlds above the Sony 835, and 935 in every respect. UP YOURS SONY!!!!! Stop selling shoody goods to all of those people that shell out their hard earned cash for your products, only to find out they've been screwed by inferior parts, and non existant quality control. If the public is wise, we'll start to shun Sony, and start buying higher quality components like Onkyo and Yamaha. It's high time big audio companies like Sony get the message that they cannot continue to manufacture substandard or mediocre goods.

I got this thing for $340 (yes, 340 US dollars). I am totally impressedby the amount of features and quality this thing has. My only gripe is
that a week after I got it, it stopped working and was forced to send it
to Sony for repairs. That took about 3 weeks before it came back but
since then, it's been heavenly.
