Strength:

Power Clear Sound Remote controls everything

Weakness:

It burns fuses easily and don´t shows itself as sure and though.

Well, all I got to say is, that when all the signal cords are right, u don´t have to have any problem..but, if one cord is failed, prepare 4 troubles. One of my In Connectors, only work for the right Channel and the Phono channel, works with a very fair sound. Now, 3 months of use, I can say that, the sound is not the saem as when I bought it. Strength:

Sounded good with cheap subs, but wouldn''t power much.

Weakness:

WHOLE THING WAS JUNK!

I bought the receiver in 1998,had it for 3 months and already blew 5 fuses. After that it blew the chip board. I took it in and had it fixed and it did the same thing a week later.I didn''t use it after that.

The entire unit

Terrible... Good thing they don''t make this model anymore. Let''s see, It''s blown 5 fuses and eventually fried the main board, would turn on for no reason... What a waste of money... I had a friend come over when I purchased it and after it was ready to go, it blew the 1st fuse.

Strength:

has good power and sound pretty good

Weakness:

no DD or dts and the flip up remote is annoying

it is a great dolby pro logic receiver that only has 5.1 analog input. If you don't care about DD or dts, then this is the receiver for you

Solid Piece of Work

No more No Less

This was my first purchase a year or so ago to begin my path to audio-destiny. This reciever does everything you want in a beginner model. What the box says is what you get, so don't expect more. It has given me quite a good time through normal movies and cd's alike. I recommend this for a good piece of machinery that will not be playing your DD/DTS equipment due to nothing builtin. Now I'm transfering to the Marantz SR-7000 as my next stepping stone.

Strength:

Lots of power. Good sound. Easy controls. Versatile surround-sound options.

Weakness:

The remote has a flimsy flip-up lid and illogically laid-out buttons. The remote volume control is way too coarse. Tone controls are laughable - fortunately I don't need them with my system and most sound sources.

This receiver was purchased for $200 at WARDS during the model closeout.
Used with SONY REEL-TO-REEL deck, DUAL 1242 turntable with AT-440ML cartridge, JVC CD player, GE HI-FI VCR, Hitatchi monitor, KENWOOD KX-1060 cassette deck ( a lovely 3-head affair that sounds great!), and DBX speakers with passive subwoofer.
This receiver is a great value. I compared to many receivers and like the specs and sound of the SONY. Yes, a YAMAHA, ONKYO, or HK might be a better machine but not at this price.
PRO-LOGIC sounds wonderful with good material AND a good center channel speaker.
This receiver seems somewhat sensitive to cable and interconnect quality. Invest in good cables - they sound better and last much longer than cheapies.
This receiver can pump out the bass with a good, accurate sub. Remember, lots of subs and speakers have plenty of bass but few have accurate bass.

Rock sounds great with this reciever. Mahler and Stravinsky - wow!

I recently purchased the 525 receiver and I've been extremely impressed with it.The 525 is loaded toy's, especially when at this price range. No other dolby digital ready models at this price range compared with it. I hooked it up to my Proscan 8610 DVD Player and I was extremely surprised. Dolby 5.1 sounds 10 times better then Dolby Prologic. My surounds came to life and center channel dialogue sound much more clear then prologic. When listening to music the 525 sounded better then my old kenwood receiver. The powered subwoofer seemed to blend in alot better then before and the DSP fields adds a little more ambience to the sound. The only knock I have with this reciever is the remote control. The remote does not have a code for a RCA/Proscan DVD player. also I do not like the flip up compartment on the remote. This is a pain when adjusting the bass/treble or rear/center volumes. Otherwise this receiver is well built and well thoughtout by Sony. Which is typical of a Sony product

When I purchased this I was stunned by the clean, detailed sound but very disappointed with the low bass. Three weeks later and (surprise, surprise!) my sub is once again delving into the 20 to 30Hz region. It obviously just needed to be 'worn in'.Most people just instantly return it and complain. Give it some time and it will turn into one of the best value receivers on the planet.

Weakness:

Many

Many. Horrible remote with faint green lettering on translucent buttons that don't light up. Confusing and tedious setup. Every once in a while, it would break into a loud hum, which only would go away by turning it off and then on again. Today it flashed a Short Circuit message. I disconnected everything and kept resetting it, but it the message kept coming up on the display. I've hated this amp from day one, so tomorrow being garbage day, I threw it where it belonged -- in the trash. Before I bought this amp, I had sworn never to buy another Sony product. I wish I'd stayed true to that.
