I HAVE OWNED THIS UNIT FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. I AM USING IT IN A 5.1 CONFIGURATION WITH MARTIN LOGAN FRESCOS AND A SUNFIRE SUBWOOFER. THERE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE THE MARTIN LOGANS SING. THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW AMPS THAT CAN DELIVER REAL POWER TO ALL 7 CHANNELS. ONE OF THE A/V MAGS MEASURED IT AT OVER 159 WATTS PER CHANNEL X 7, ALL CHANNELS DRIVEN. I HAVE YET TO SEE ANOTHER A/V RECEIVER COME CLOSE TO THIS.THIS UNIT IS VERY EASY TO SET UP. I USE AN SPL METER FOR ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS. I HAVE TRIED THE PIONEERS AND DENONS WITH THE BUILT IN MIKES AND THEY GET YO CLOSE, BUT NOT DEAD ON ACCURATE. MY GUESS IS THAT SONY DECIDED IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPEND $2000 ON THIS UNIT, YOU PROBABLY KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY SET IT UP. I ONLY USE THIS FOR MOVIES AND HAVE NOT TRIED ANY SERIOUS MUSIC EVALUATION. I AM STILL A HARD CORE DEDICATED, 2 CHANNEL GUY WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC.THIS UNIT DELIVERS FABULOUS SOUND FOR MOVIES. PLENTY OF CLARITY, SLAM, AND SOUNDSTAGE. VERY NEUTRAL. THESE ARE A BARGAIN ON THE SECONDARY MARKET. WITH A 5 YEAR WARRANTY, MOST ARE STILL COVERED. WORTH THE PRICE AS A STAND ALONE PROCESSOR. THIS HAS STAYED IN MY SETUP LONGER THAT ANY FORMER A/V RECEIVER. THIS IS A WELL BUILT (OVER 50LBS) QUALITY UNIT. SONY DOES NOT MAKE ANYTHING LIKE IT IN IT'S PRESENT LINEUP.

i have had many recievers before the sony 7100es yamaha being my favorite.after setting up the sony and powering it up i have enjoyed this unit to the fullest and have explored every part of this unit to find things that are not right. guess what everything about this unit is perfect. sound is very accurate in all phases. as a past audio engineer i must say the word wow for sony engineers.i do not think i will have upgrade for awhile. i am using definitive technology speakers in my set up and the 7100 drives these speakers to new dimentions. subwoofer output is powerful and so is the center channel output. go out and buy one it will amaze you.
