Strength:

Good looking,Clear sound at mid and low volume.

Weakness:

Very weak power!!!! Do not have center and surround volume (like old sony)at remote control. Very poor equalization. Very noise if you try to hear high volume!!!!!!!!!!!

I try to see a movie, but i need to put almost higher volume i cant believe it!!!!!!The Str-da5000es have very weak power so i hear much noise with movies sound. I saw the same film with my old str-da30es and the sound is stronghest and i can control center and surround speakers volume! at mid volume str-da5000es sound is very clear, but its only positive quality

Strength:

Strong amp,CLARITY and good dynamic sound stage.Great remote.

Weakness:

Misleading Specs,Its $1500 retail may be a bit high.

Bought the Str3000es model first and was very unimpressed. While it was not a bad reciever, its digital amp rated at 150 watts was a bit weak. They rate the new es line at full volume,so the 3000es is 150 watts at full volume.I was looking for a bit more power. After returning the 3000,I bought the 5000es.I don't know if the 5000 shares more in design with the over-priced 7000es($3800)amp,but the 5000 has alot more power. Is it 170 watts? At full volume it may be and thats where things are a bit different with the 5000es. You can run this amp at FULL VOLUME with NO distortion. These digital drive amps that sony now uses in the new ES line are right at home with the volume knob all the way to the right, even though we always have been told never to do this with past receivers. What makes it hard to do this is the fact that sony uses a count-down on the volume display as many others do- all the way down to zero, but at that point the sony goes from zero to plus ten. So my point is that when you have the volume cranked up to 10,your really at 20 on the volume(as other recievers) because the volume goes down to 0 and climbs up to plus(+) ten.(why they went with this we will never know). Because of this people may at first look at the sony as being under-powered as I did,I mean you do have the volume at zero and as with most recievers you would be at full power! As with the sound,it is very good.As with all the es line you must tweek the heck out of all the little adjustments and sony gives you many(but not as many as my old 777es).It has a very strong and powerful sound. Bottem line.....worth your time but not for everyone. I like it alot, but I really had to work on it to sound the way I wanted it to. Make sure you can return it if not happy.
