Strength:

Great power reserve Exceptional Stereo sound and imaging A Value at the price

Weakness:

Bulky- this things a beast (60+ lbs)

After reviewing a variety of $3000 and under AV reveivers I chose the Rotel 1065. Although I watch DVD movies in 5.1 Digital Dolby format, my primary concern was for Stereo performance on a variety of music types. My search included all Denon, B&W, Onkyo, Integra,Yamaha, and JVC products within the $3000 dollar budget. I had not even considered Rotel products as they are not always available and get little press. While doing side by side comparisons, the AudioVideo store saleman switched to the RS1065. I was immediately impressed with the outstanding stereo sound quality and spacial imaging. The other (except B&W) AV receivers in stereo sounded flat and somewhat lifeless. The rotel 1065 has tremendous power reserve for its 5 x 100 watt rating. At very load volumes, the Rotel was able to present dynamic music without becoming edgy or colored. My choice was obvious and the price tag was well below the competition! First; Audioreview did not, after my own request, deleted my first incomplete posted review and second I must apologize that I did not test this receiver but I was looking for a more high-end receiver. Although I am very satisfied with mine Denon AVR 3300 receiver and Denon DVD 2500 dvd player I would like to have a receiver and dvd player, which has a more near high-end stereo sound, because I listen most of the time to CDs and occasionally (in the weekends) watch DVDs. I read al lot of German and British audio and video magazines and the Rotel RSX-1065 draw my attention. The Rotel RSX 1065 was reviewed in the German magazine STEREOPLAY, issue 3 2002 (www.stereoplay.de) and this is what they said; Sympathetic solid multichannel receiver with nearly inscrutable power reservations. In stereo as in surround in the higer frequencies rather careful, for that in bass the more plastic-voluminous sound. Who at this price is looking for a top multichannel receiver and most of the time is listening to stereo take the Rotel RSX-1065. See there website to compare it with other receivers and amplifiers; search for Stereoplay-Bestlisten, ubersicht Teil 5 (Pdf format, look at klang; left note is for surround, right note is for stereo). The British magazine What Hi*Fi? (www.whathifi.com) Reviewed this receiver in there march 2002 issue and this is what they said; But the Rotel has still to play its trump card; stereo performance. In stereo, from CDs, the RSX-1065 is the best-sounding one-box receiver we’ve yet heard. It’s meaty when called upon, tight sounding, and musical whatever the genre. The Denon AVC-A11SR runs its close, but falls away by being just a little too smooth; the Rotel, by contrast, has the energy and timing to capture fast-paced beats crisply, defining each note cleanly in the mix. It rocks, it rolls and it shakes its funky derriere: you can’t ask for more from a product of this type. The RSX-1065 is an enthusiast’s delight. We love the way its looks, we respect the features its carries, and boy, does it sound good. See also; www.technofile.com/articles/rotel_1065_receiver.html or www.chicagotribune.com/business/showcase/chi-020329amp.story. This is an excellent surround receiver with a near high-end CD stereo sound. I read above mentions reviews, downloaded the owner’s manual and compared it with mine Denon receiver. It has one big engineering

Strength:

Great combo of power, features, and price. Also seems to have the best build quality of those mentioned above and I think it has the best warranty at 5 years.

Weakness:

No headphone jack.

I listened to a number of receivers with the same material through the same set of B&W speakers to make my evaluations of the receivers themselves. I found the Yamaha equipment to all sound a little "muddy" and definitly bass heavy. I liked the Pioneer Elite series better...pretty detailed in mids and highs, but lacked any bass punch. I found the Onkyo Integra Series and the Rotel to be the best. What "sold" me on the Rotel was the more natural timbre of female and male voices. Also better decay on instrument notes.

INTRODUCTION. I must apologize that I did not test this receiver but I was looking for a more high-end receiver, which could replace in the future mine existing Denon receiver. I read al lot of German and British audio and video magazines and the Rotel RSX-1065 draw my attention. My future dream system could have the following components, although very costly; Rotel RSX-1065 receiver, Marantz DV 8300 muliformat DVD player or the Denon DVD 3800 (no SACD) and B&W Nautilus 805 left and right front speakers. This review is for the new RSX-1065. I have to say this reciever rocks. I got it thru a friend who works at this audio/visual store so I got it at mates rates....This reciever is amazing both in music reproduction and home theatre. My Rotel in HT runs 5 M&K LCR750 speakeers and a VX-100 subwoofer and the sound is unbelieveable, I think the rotel was made to be run with M&K speakers. I bought this reciever because of several things, price, sound seperation in HT and build quality. This thing has plenty of power and plenty in reserve....I've already had 3 complaints from neighbours upstairs, something about dinosuars in my flat. If you have the money...buy it, there can be only one. I gave this one a 5 for value only because I got it at mates rates otherwise I would give it a 4 cuase it retails at $3999.00 AUD.

features, looks, power, upgradability, warranty, price, and unavailability.

Weakness:

slow volume control (who cares?)

I have the RSX-1065, which is the big brother of the RSX-972. This receiver is a beast! I bought it for several reasons: features, looks, power, upgradability, warranty, price, and unavailability. features: It has component switching, HDCD, multi-zone capabilities, 7.1 Capabilities with an external amp, PL II, and multiple dts formats. Looks: This thing looks so sweat in my built-in. I love the anterior heat sinks and brushed metal front-plate. Power: 100 watts RMS is very modest. I have a 120 watt integrated amp that doesn''t hold a candle to this receiver. Maybe its the fact that the dynamic range is so great with the teroidal power supply of the Rotel. Upgradability: The back panel has a hidden RS-232 link for future software upgrades. It also has a visible computer and keypad link(I haven''t figured out what they do yet). Warrany: 5 years, enough said. Price: $1800 are you kidding me? It lists for $2000, but Rotel allows up to 10% to be discounted. Heck, I was sold at $2000. Maybe they haven''t priced their competitors. Their competitors range from $2400-$4300. After 6 months of research, I found that only 7 receivers met my needs. The Denon 5803[($4300 and wouldn''t fit in my cabinet, 18 1/2" deep], the Marantz SR-9200 [($3000 and wouldn''t fit in my cabinet, 17 7/8" deep)], the Integra 9.1 ($3200 and ugly as hell), the Onkyo 989 (good price at ~$2400, but looks cheap), the B&K 305 and 307 (nothing wrong with them and they fit in my cabinet; however, the prices are about $3000 and $3500 respectively, and finally the Rotel RSX-1065. Unavailability: Not everyone has a Rotel, unlike JVC, Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, Sherwood, and every other mass-marketed receiver. If I went through only the homes on my block, I bet I could find at least one of each of the above mentioned receivers. Summary: Audiophile performance and features at a fair price can''t be beat.
