I have had this receiver now for a month and I've been very satisfied with it. For the price it really can't be beat. I picked one of these up at Best Buy for $359 and compared to other receivers under $500, it has more features than any of the rest. It has both DD and DTS decoders on board, but more importantly for me was the fact it also has S-Video switching. It also has 4 digital audio inputs and 1 output for a MD/CDR. Performance wise, I'd give it a 4 out of 5, but when you consider the price I have to give it 5 stars. If you have been holding out on jumping into DD and or DTS I'd say go for it. My DVDs have never sounded better, there absolutely is quite a noticable jump going from Pro Logic to DD/DTS. If you have a lower to mid range HT setup and are on a budget, I'd definitely recommend giving this receiver a shot. I doubt you'll be disappointed. |

At last an affordable receiver with S-video switching, Dolby Digial, & DTS !!! I have been using this receiver for about three weeks now and I am very impressed with the sound quality from all the sources. I am also very impressed will the receiver's looks and the build quality. I would recommend this receiver to anyone on a budget. |

Strength:
Affordable. Has a lot of connections and functions for the price. I am in college, and couldn't drop a lot of money of a receiver, but this has been a very nice choice.
Weakness:
Does not produce enough clean power. I think I will buy a pre-amp to add more power to this 100wts, because my Polk RT55i's are begging for more power. This receiver is an excellent value, although it lacks the pure clean power of many higher end models. I have really enjoyed having this as the center of my entertainment system, and it has performed much as I anticipated it would. It is not the best receiver out there, but it is very versatile and functional. I would recommend it to anyone on a budget, but also note that you should get a pre-amp by some company other that Pioneer. Similar Products Used: HK receiver (an older one), Sony (various). |

POWER ALRIGHT RECEIVER FOR PRICE. 100 WATTS X 5?! MY @ss!!! AT FIRST I HAD THE 508 BUT I JUST HAD TO HAVE DTS DECODING SO I UPGRADED TO THE 608. AS I LEARNED MORE ABOUT RECEIVERS I BEAGAN TO REALIZE THAT THE RECEIVER WASN'T ALL THAT POWERFUL DESPITE ITS "100 WATTS PER CHANNEL" CLAIM. I HAD LS-8 CERWIN VEGA SPEAKERS HOOKED UP TO IT AND I COULD CRANK THE VOLUME ALL THE WAY TO -10 AND IT JUST WOULDN'T "BLOW ME AWAY". AFTER CONSULTING WITH A FRIEND, HE RECOMMENDED A YAMAHA FOR POWER. NOW I'VE REPLACED MY PIONEER 608 WITH A YAMAHA 1105 THAT I BOUGHT AT THE MILITARY PX WHERE IM STATIONED FOR $337!!! I PURCHASED A 500-600 DOLLAR HIGH END RECEIVER FOR A LITTLE OVER $300. IT DOES EVERYTHING THE 608 DID AND IT JUST SOUNDS MUCH BETTER. ITS RATED AT ONLY 85 WATTS PER CHANNEL BUT MAN DO THOSE YAMAHA 85 WATTS DO MUCH BETTER THAN THE PIONEER'S "ALLEGED" 100 WATTS. i STILL GAVE 3 STARS BECAUSE OVERALL, THE PIONEER IS A GOOD" RECEIVER FOR ITS PRICE, WITH A LOT OF FUNCTIONS, CONNECTIONS, ETC. BUT IF YOU WANT TRUE POWER, GO WITH YAMAHA, DENON, NAKAMICHI, ETC. THEY'RE A BIT MORE, BUT MAN IS THERE A DIFFERENCE Similar Products Used: YAMAHA |
