Strength:

Not too bad if you can get a deal on one but really wouldn't recommend go with the previous models before it.

Weakness:

Lack of power. Even though its 125wpc it seems about 90-100wpc.I have a D1S and 901S and both seem to have more power even though they are all rated the same. built quality isn;t as good a previous models pioneer went cheap on this one. Also pioneers gui interface with the tv is clunky. Bought mine used cheap for another room and worked for a couple years and then I was powering speakers quite loud for awhile and then unit started to smoke. Never had an issue doing that with my D1S or 901S. 25 years later they both are still going strong. In the end id stay away from this one.

Poor unit. Do not recommend, get the D1S instead.

Weak power, distortion and problems make this unit a sure looser. (Wont power on)

The D1S was built much better go with that one.

Strength:

Extremely Versitile

I have been using this little reciever for my secondary system for about 8 years. I bought the unit because I knew that AC-3 (later to be known as Dolby Digital) was going to be the format of choice in years to come. This was the ONLY reciever at the time that offered pre-out and main-ins for all of the channels, yes, including spit surround amplifiers. Not only that, but it had the most powerfull surround amps available in a reciever at the time(except of coarse for Pioneers elite series--- which suspiciously looked like the VSX-DIIs with cherry wood veneer end panels) at 50 watts per channel. All five amp sections have an unbelievable rating of .005 THD at the rated output plus it's a non-switching amp (in simpler terms that means it dosn't swtich down it's output specifications when in the surround mode). Iv'e yet to find this low of a THD in Pioneers current offerings. When Dobly Digital did finally arrive I bought a Technics AC-500C Processor (at a very good price), patched it into the pre-out/main-in section and voila I have what I think is an exceptional Dolby Digital system. This unit is extremely versitile and has all the bells & whisles that anyone would ever want with top notch performance.
