Strength:

Very versitile, Lots of Features for the price, Digital niose reduction

Weakness:

Piss poor reception

This is the first receiver I have ever owned, however it is not the first piece of audio equipment in my possesion. I previously owned an all-in-one book shelf system from JVC and I just felt that I needed more power. On the topic of power this receiver seems to have plenty of it. The versitilty seems almost endless. I have owned mine for about six months I am still discovering new things. The best thing on this receiver is Pionner's digital noise reduction circuit which actually works far better than Dolby NR in reducing noise & hiss from a tape deck.
However, I could not understand how my $180.00 all-in-one shelf system that I had previously owned could pick up stations clearly and the tuner on this $200.00 receiver could not without considerable static, and these were FM stations.

Decent receiver for the price. Purchased mine just before X-mas. Price now is around $225 - $250. This comes with a learning remote, which was needed for a couple of fuctions for a Sony CX210(200 disk) CD player. Has 5D theater and DSP modes. Plenty of output for my speakers (custom Peerless/Dynaudio mains + Sony ssu3303's for center and sorround). Using the subwoofer output requires an electronic low pass, otherwise directional bass is sent to sub. If you haven't purchased yet, I would hold off untill the new digital models hit the street. There will be units to compete with Kenwood's 209.

I can't say that I've been let down by this receiver. I went hunting back in Jan/99 for a receiver/speakers/cd player. I ended up purchasing (sperately) the Pioneer VSX-507S/Mission 702/Yamaha CDC-565. For being on a somewhat low budget I don't think I could've done much better. I didn't want a boomy system and wanted clarity of sound, which I have achieved (which I mostly thank to the Missions).

Strength:

Very versitale, Upgradeable, Plenty of power

Weakness:

Not Digital

I've had this reciever for going on about 3 years. I've never had any problems with it performance. I have polk and paradigm speakers connected to it and it really makes them shine.
