In reference to the audio cutting out issue with the 26tx and 27tx. I have emailed Pioneer informing them of this web site and the issues we are having. Hopefully they will respond with some information like they did on the 3xTX series. I suggest you all email them if you are having the same issue. Their email link is: https://www.pioneer-online.net/cs_email/form(1).htm

Even if you got yours fixed, please email them to make them aware of this issue. I realize they should already know, but lets take the initiative. Its a good receiver and I hope Pioneer is still a good company.

Weakness:

typical japanese receiver sound BRIGHT

I'VE HAD THIS UNIT FOR A LONG TIME NOW AND IT HASN'T CRAPED OUT ON ME YET. I GUESS I'VE BEEN LUCKY. THIS IS A GOOD MID-FI RECEIVER FOR MOVIES. THE DECODING FOR DD AND DTS SEEM TO BE RIGHT ON. IT CAN PLAY LOUD AND CLEAR AND HAS NEVER RUN OUT OF JUICE. THE MIDNIGHT MODE IS GREAT FOR LOW VOLUME AND THE DOLBY NR WORKS GREAT. HOWEVER AS FAR AS STEREO SOUND IT IS VERY BRIGHT. TYPICAL RECEIVER SOUND WITH NO WARMTH. EVEN MY SACDS SOUND HARSH. JUST KNOW THAT YOU ARE BUYING A HOMETHEATER PRODUCT MORE THAN A PRODUCT FOR MUSIC REPRODUCTION. LIKE I SAID THIS UNIT CAN COMPETE WITH THE BEST OF THEM FOR MOVIE SOUND. BUT I HAVE COME TO LEARN THAT I LISTEN TO MUSIC MORE THAN I WATCH MOVIES SO I'M GETTING A B AND K 305. ANYONE WANT TO BUY MY OLD UNIT?

I just got this in a few days ago and I am still working out the bugs. For now I am very impress with the sound and power of this system. I thought my old Pro-logic played my DVD's well, but hearing U571 (my test DVD) in DD set a new standard for me. And that brings me to my first question or complant. How do you force this unit to play in DTS mode when the source has dual tracks (DD & DTS). The THX setting is great along with the other DSP modes I have sampled so far. I was kinda taken back with the requiement of having the system hooked into my big screen just to set the speakers up. I feel that could be handle on the matrix display. The size of this line (Pioneer Elite) has caused a pain for my cabint unit (the door can't close) will have to cut out some room in the rear. For what I have heard from this system and the price I got it for I can't be too upset.

Well, it finally happened to me. The dreaded but expected unit failure. The same one eveyone else has been talking about. No sound. Hopefully the info coming from this site in regards to a bad solder on an IC will help my technician find and fix the problem. By now you would think that Pioneer would know what the problem is and advise their technicians. The good news is that Pioneer will honor the warranty even though I bought it through the internet. That's good news for you folks who bought yours through Ubid, because you will need it.
On another subject, why don't the major audio video magazines report this incredible lack of quality control that seems to be rampant in this industry, at least with the new 5 channel receivers?!? We've heard horror stories about equipt. failures from Pioneer Elite, Denon, Onkyo, etc., normally all top quality brands. Maybe they are all rushing to send product to market before they have figured out how to keep 5 amps and all the processing chips cool enough to last. All you see from the magazines are glowing reports about how great these units are. Some discuss the minor differences in sound quality, or the ergonomic features, or the remote controls, but never a mention of the reliability. While the subtle differences in sound and ergonomics are important factors, they don't mean as much to me as how reliable the unit is. This is just one man's opinion, I don't mean to rant.

Strength:

Cabinet build, ease of setting up, power, I/O flexibility

Weakness:

As others have mentioned, the short illumination time on the remote, not being able to remotely adjust bass and treble in stereo mode

I bought my unit in July, 1999 and I have been absolutely nothing short of astounded. Other than the weaknesses I listed above, I can't say enough good things about the VSX-26TX. I am 100% satisfied with the sound quality while watching DVD's, TV or listening to music.

Imagine how heartbroken I was when a few weeks ago, I turned my baby on and there was no sound...I was in a state of panic! This was the first time this had happened and it came about suddenly. After I turned the unit off and on several times, there was finally sound...I thought maybe this was a one-time event (hoping). Well, the next day, the same thing happened and I just left the unit on and after about 5 minutes, there was finally sound. I played a DTS DVD and after a minute or so, there was a horrendous popping and crackling soud from my speakers. This noise does not occur in other modes. To this day, I can play my unit after leaving it on for 5 minutes until the sound comes through and occasionally, I have the DTS problem I mentioned.

I know there is a two year warranty and I have to take it in for repair. But...after what I spent, I was very discouraged, this was worse than the first scratch on a new car! I'm worried that the service tech that works on it may not be 100% qualified, may not find the root cause of the problem, that it may never sound the same or operate the same again as it did when it was new, and that the problem may reoccur. I E-mailed my concerns to the Pioneer Service Department and asked if it was possible to exchange the unit. After a week, I received a reply stating that I had to take it to a service center for repair.

Two questions...has anyone else had an experience like this one and secondly, should I have any concerns with the capabilites of the service technicians? Anyone that cares to reply may post their comments here or E-mail me at dallen@erinet.com

Thanks.

Strength:

Sound, Remote, Digital output

Weakness:

No component video switching

The sound is superb! Enough digital i/o for my needs. The remote controls all my other gear and I find it to be well laid out. It has THX Ultra certification. Very easy setup with good on-screen menus. Excellent direct mode so it is now also my primary stereo as well as home theather unit. Its only flaw is lack of component video switching. I am *very* happy with this receiver. Certainly a 5-Star for this price range.

Strength:

good sound if it worked

Weakness:

More expensive to upkeep then my car

Well I'm sure you've all read this before and I know I'm only suppose to submit one review for a product. But this receiver and Pioneer have encouraged me to come back here and complain some more to be frank. Well its time to re-box my unit and send it back to repair again for the same problems everyone else has talked about only this time it is out of warranty so who knows how much it will cost me. But due to my previous experience with having to buy a remote for it I'm sure it won’t be cheap. Since the end of the warranty this receiver has cost more to upkeep then my car. Not to restate things but I no longer get sound until about an hour after it ha been on. Now I’ve read everyone saying that this is a simple repair and easy to fix but how come their repair shops obviously don't know it and they can't fix it right the first time. I assure you that this will be my last Pioneer product and I encourage every one else to do the same. I just wish that maybe Pioneer would read this site then maybe they would have a clue. I only wish I read it before purchasing my receiver.

Well I've had this fine receiver for about 2&1/2 weeks and I must say it's DA-BOMB! The build quality is fantastic and it actually looks better than my girlfriend! The sound quality is unlike anything I ever imagined having in my own apartment, My walls shake, my windows rattle and my cats run for cover when I fire this baby up! The sheer power of the amps is breathtaking, my speakers sound better than I thought was possible. I was actually considering replacing my front speakers because I felt they lacked the power and soundstage I was looking for, but as soon as that 100 watts of MOSFET power hit the cones...I almost fainted..yes there was THAT much difference. The remote is solid and built like fort Knox, plus it controls EVERY single piece of equipment I have! and has backlighting!

The setup is SUPER easy and has quite a few options I didn't expect. The back panel is nicely laid out and has more inputs than most people need. Plus this thing drives my 4-ohm mains like they were made for eachother even though it's only rated down to 6-ohms. The DSP's are actually really good and quite useful. I have never before heard so much detail from my CD's, they all sound like HDCD's now! For the first time ever I feel like I'm watching movies in a THX certified movie house, it's awesome!! If your thinking about buying this piece....stop...don't think.. BUY BUY BUY !! You will be amazed how much of a punch this thing packs for the buck.....I couldn't be happier, I love this thing!!
