Strength:

Good Sound and quality, good and easy setup on screen program. Have sub-woofer test tone for adjustment.

Weakness:

non so far

I have been using this reciever for almost a year now. Very good sound and built quality (HK avr 7000 has better sound and built quality is not as good as the Pioneer). The Dolby digital and DTS are great. DSP mode are just enough but is not impressive.

For around $600, the 24TX is a bargain.

Pioneer has always given more for the money, and this is true with this receiver. I had a Sony DA30ES that was great on Digital, but really poor on stereo. My cd's were lacking the punch they had with my older Denon AVR3000. This Pioneer unit restored most of the sonic quality I was enjoying, and excels with THX coded dvd's. One of the best features is the remote that uses on screen GUI's to set the soundfields as well as the operation of other components. All the codes are listed on screen, not in the manual. p.s. I have read that Sony has released new receivers with bigger output capacitors for better sound. Maybe other owners have also noted the poor sound quality with the stereo modes. I will be keeping this Pioneer for a long time.

Hats off to the Pioneer Elite. For the money nothing...and I mean nothing comes close. This unit is da bomb.

It took me a while to learn that the digital inputs were assignable. No wonder I had no noise from the DVD player at first.

The unit does get hot, but nothing to be alarmed at. I have had the unit for several months and have had not one problem. This is great considering the amount of inuts this unit has.

The THX is great for movies that have the THX Logo. Most of the time I will use the Dolby Digital Standard for movie watching.

I have yet to try the DTS decoding for lack of movies.
I am sure that it sounds as wonderful as Dolby Digital, if not better.

Test one out now before Pioneer replaces the unit with the new models. This unit is great.

Strength:

A/V Switching, Great Midnight Mode for when the little one is trying
to sleep, Easy set-up and operation

Weakness:

NONE

This Receiver is the heart of a great (read Bang for Buck) home theater system. It is hooked up a pair of Martin Logan CS Model 3's for the main, a Definitive Technology center, KEF Sub and Infinity QPS-1 Surrounds. The TV is a 36" in. Wega and DVD is a Panasonic DVC-50. It's wonderfully warm as was the Denon but w/ more inputs and S-video switching and that really nice Midnite Mode I have mentioned. The Sony was decent, but I was afraid that it would melt my T.V. stand as it could double as a toaster oven or hot-plate. The HK seemed too tinny and didn't have a quality feel to the unit. There seemed to be no dynamic headroom and it would clip at high volume much like the 333 ES. If your looking for a receiver in the $600.00 range...stop looking, you've found it. It's very classy and extrememly musical. I don't don't really take advantage of all of the DSP modes or even THX for that matter, because if you have it configured correctly, then Dolby Digital "Standard" is absolutely superb! Set it and forget it.

Strength:

Excellent Versatility, Construction, Easy Set Up

Weakness:

Huge Size (at least 3 inches deeper than my previous Elite).

Got a great deal but would have gladly paid twice as much for this beauty. Excellent ease of use when setting it up, slightly confusing manual (3 models combined in one book tend to make things a little mixed up), made to guard against obsolesence. I've been an audio enthusiast for about 25 years and this is the best product I have ever owned. More than enough inputs and outputs, excellent display and superb remote (although a little large). DTS decoder will blow you away. Also has a Phono input for us die hards out there. Anyone who thinks this receiver sounds bad does not know the first thing about audio equipment especially in this price range. I use this receiver with a Denon DP 52-f Turntable, Pioneer 606D DVD Player, Toshiba Cinema Series 36 inch TV, Toshiba 6head Hi-Fi VCR, Nakamichi Mb-2S CD Player, Paradigm cc 170 center channel speaker, Paradigm Phantoms in front and Paradigm Titans rear channel. Oh and by the way...EUGENE YOU ARE AN ASS.

I always appreciate standards. They help in allowing me to compare against a fixed set of features or attributes. The THX program, in particular, brought some order to the chaotic world of HiFi HT Audio/Video. However, my pocketbook was never compatible with the price tags associated with the products that bore the THX badge. Consequently, I never really thought I would be able to get a THX certified receiver.
I'm proud to report that the day that has existed in my dreams for so long is now a reality. Yeah for me! :)
I could not be happier with my purchase. The Select program gives me the post-processing features I'd been obsessing over and the assurance of the receiver meeting a quality standard. That allows me to sleep easier. :)
The urushi finish on the receiver is beautiful and makes it a real show piece.
The performance is what I'd expect from an Elite product. It fantastic! I A/B'ed with a 3300 and found the quality in sound to be comparable.. As for the 777ES, it blew it away IMHO.. Well, "blew away" may be overstating, but a noticable differance was heard.. I preferred the Elite's sound, som may like the Sony.. I'm not anti-Sony like some, as a matter of fact, I own a lot of, and am satisfied with, Sony products... I just found the 777ES's sound to be.. hmmm... How do you explain it... Artificial?
From the word "go," the VS-24TX performed as billed and I'm very happy with my purchase. It performs well above the competator's equal price range. I highly recommend it!

Weakness:

Front scratches easilyso try to be extra carefull when handling the front

FIdelity,Features, better than some of those other brands out there.
I just wished that they used a metallic front panel instead of the highglossed front mainly because it scratches easily.
