Strength:

all the surround sound options available. Good manufacturing quality.

Weakness:

remote control. The AC cord can't be replaced.

Before I bought this receiver, I have done researching the AV receiver in a couple of weeks. I have a pretty decent 2 CH. stereo system, but I did not pay much attention to the AV receiver in the past years. Pioneer receiver is not new to me before. This elite model is a really good receiver at a resonable price. It has good sound quality and surrounding effect. It has 7.1 Ch. Surround, THX Select certified, DD, DD-EX, DTS, DTS-EX. The DTS sounds really good. I would not compare this unit to my stereo set. However, it gives very good sound. I mean really good sound. If you want to buy a receiver with all kinds of the surround mode you need to consider this model especially with the THX certified. There is one Kenwood 6070 model with almost the same modes but I think Pioneer Elite series should be one of your consideration.

Strength:

All the latest decoding, DTS-ES, DD EX and THX select. Easy to setup.

Weakness:

remote video switching

It has every option you need, from all the latest decoding (DTS-ES and also Dolby Digital EX) to also THX, (Which does make a different, Try watching Episode II). This unit is very easy to set up, it is pretty straight forward. I bought this reciever for movies and it sounds great, for music its sound good but not great. The only two things I didn't like is the 1. remote (note: If you look at pioneer elite catalog it shows a lcd remote, but it isn't) 2. There is no video switching, but with the new tv's having more than enough component video inputs, I don't think its a big deal.
