I recently purchased the Pioneer D608, and was quite impressed with my purchase. Soon after I bought the 608, I heard that the Elite 21 was coming out and I really reallly wanted it. I was able to trade in my 608 and upgrade to the 21 and man was I happy! It's awesome. I've been listening to it for about 1 week strait and love it. Can't wait to pair it up with a better Center and Surrounds.

I bought this model and listened to it for a week. I ended up returning it and exchanging it for a Pioneer VSX-D608. To be honest, I could not tell the difference between two except VSX-21 has Cinema EQ and D608 has more power (100 vs. 80). But I save about $200 for going to D608.

The only thing I can say about this unit is that it has exceeded my expectatins. I was using a Pioneer 504s Pro logic reiceiver for youears and recently connected my Pioneer DVD 414 to it, whichc sounded good. However the VSX@! makes my whole system sound ALIVE with the DTS and Dgigital Dolby decoding. This unit is at a great Price and has plenty of power. I was able to get it for $450...and I am very happy

I RECENTLY ADDED THE ELITE VSX-21 TO MY DVD-414 WITH TAKE-5 SPEAKERS AND IT SOUNDS GREAT. DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 DVDS ARE AWESOME. I WOULD RATHER RENT A DVD AND WATCH IT AT HOME INSTEAD OF GOING THE THE MOVIES. PERFECT PICTURE AND GREAT SOUND. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE OR HEAR A DTS-CD OR DVD.

Strength:

sound quality,vesatility,build quality,price

Weakness:

no onscreen display(who cares?)

I have had this reciever a week and am very impressed! I ordered it from Amazon.com for $450.00. 5X80 watts, DD and dts decoding,3 optical 1 coaxial(shared) inputs 1 optical out,4 S-Video inputs, full preouts,5.1 channel input.Sound is clearly better than my old recievers(Marantz sr-770, Sony str-g3),my wife even noticed a big difference! One minor drawback is no onscreen dispay, impossible to read the text off the reciever from 10 feet away(have some binoculars handy!)
Still too soon to give adequate details on sound quality but so far I am blown away by the features and finish of this unit at this price range!

Strength:

Elite Series, Affordability, a number of equipment connection options.

Weakness:

Does not reproduce Dolby Digital Audio Music.

This is an outstanding system for the money;I paid $380 after negotiating with a local dealer. I have had the system for approximately two and a half weeks and the experience has been superb. I have the system connected to two EXL16s front channel speakers, an ELXc center channel, and two EXL15s in the rear, and an Energy 8in sub. In a small room, which is what I have, this is plenty. I have a 43in TV and in my opinion this set up has more impact than seeing a film at the theater, because the sound is just so close and enveloping. It interesting to see my family members jump when the Dolby Digital sound catches them off guard. For those, who have limited space, and do not wish to break the bank, this receiver is a no lose choice.

Strength:

A lot of features

Weakness:

Manual could be better

I think everything's great. This unit give you a lot of flexibility, with S-video switching for all the inputs. Works great with my TV since it has only one set of input. Not a lot of DSP modes, but I use only the standard mode anyway. The remote is not that good, so I will stick with my One for All Cinema 7 remote, which has the learning capability.

The power should be enough for my 14 by 17 family room. I have to wait when nobody home to test it.

I have a question I hope someone that could give me some help. My Toshiba SD-1200 dvd player has both stereo and digital outputs. When play music CDs, which output should I use? There's some differences in the sound quality.

Enjoy.

Strength:

Great sound quality and plenty of audio/video inputs and outputs. Plenty of power for most normal listening rooms. Decent remote for the price range.

Weakness:

Setup is not a breeze, but well worth the end result!!

I had been using an older Yamaha surround amp/proceesor with their CINEMA DSP and this baby has brought me many years of home theatre enjoyment. But it was time to move on to Dolby-Digital and I have to say that I'm blown away by the sound quality of both the DD format and this receiver. Setup was a bit tedious but once completed it was well worth the effort. My M&K subwoofer has come to life and is producing an awesome, clean bass that just wasn't there with Pro-logic. The abundance of s-video inputs also helped tremendously since my monitor has only one s-video output. The THX CINEMA RE-EQ is also a very nice feature. Overall, it's a great DD/DTS receiver and it's certainly worth alot more than the going price. I highly recommend it!!

Strength:

lots of surround features

Weakness:

not enough power

I bought this reciever for home theatre use and it was great until i bought a new set of speakers.I brought home a set of b&w 604s2 and plugged them in.These speakers have an efficiencey rating of 90db which is fairly efficient.Turn the volume up to about -20db and the reciever would read overload and completely shut down.No where near the volume I needed to get the full potential from my new speakers.Luckily I had an upgrade policy and I went back and picked up my avr7000.No shortage of power any more.

Strength:

Great power for my size room (dorm room). Screw in speaker inputs (rather than those cheap clips that fall out)

Weakness:

Remote is confusing.

Bought this reciever on a whim when I saw it on tweeter's clearance web site. I went straight to tweeter to find out why it was on clearance, and evidently it had been returned to pioneer for repairs, but they did not find anything wrong with it. It was supposed to be a tweeter floor model, but never made it because of the "problems." Well, I took it home and gave it a chance knowing I had a full 30 day money back guarentee, and found none of the problems that Tweeter had reported (they gave me the repair order from tweeter and pioneer). Overall, its an amazing reciever, especially for only 150$. I was sick of the "consumer" electronics, like the sonys and jvcds, so I decided to try this out and love it. Check it out on the tweeter website, along with the other pioneer elite THX certified recievers that start at 250$. My roommate bought that 33 i believe, and he loves it.
