I am so sorry but I actually do not have the receiver. But I have listened to it for about 7hrs straight in Circiut City. I told the sells people to hook up Infinity RS-10 as fronts CC3 as center and the Infinity RS5 as rears with a Infinity BU120 Sub. I watched tons of movies like Matrix Dragon Heart etc. I also listened to all the Suround Modes, I put my ear to the speakers and I did not hear any HISS. ATT ALL!!! I currently have the Onkyo TX-DS555. And I must say that I love ONKYO I never had any problems with their customer Service. They reply to all my Mails and Questions.
I also thing that with 105Watts per Channel you have plenty of power. And for a 1000$ THX certified this could not be better. In that price range.

HUMM,HISS IN ALL CHANNELS

This is now my fourth receiver, the 5th is on the way from Onkyo.I started out before Christmas with a 676 and it had the hum and hiss bad!! Took it back the guy gave me another one and of course the same thing. Then they gave me a good deal on a 777 so I bought it after them saying the problem was solved and what did I get the same thing. I talked to the people were I bought it and they said to try their demo,so I did and it was the same thing.
Now I emailed Onkyo and after alot of emails and alot of phone calls they made the arrangements to overnight mine to them and they would overnight a new one to me.Well I did and that was last Thursday they said I would have a new one Monday. It is now Tuesday and I still have no new receiver!!
Once again after alot of emails and alot of calls I got and answer and they said they got my old one which I already knew but there was a mix up and it did not get shipped so I will not get one until Thursday.I am mad as hell!!!
The little I got to use it I really thought it sounded great!! The features are good and I really liked it!! I will keep you posted I sure think Onkyo needs to work on their service right now except for one guy there I would say it really sucks!!! Maybe I will feel different once I have time to enjoy my new TOY if they really send me one I will keep you posted!!!!!
To all of you that have gotten good ones, don't say that there is no problem and you don't know what some of us are talking about !!! THE HISS IS THERE AND IT SHOULD NOT BE!!!!
I am from a small town and all the receivers that the store I got mine from were in a certain serial number range,I tried to get it out of Onkyo what range I needed to be in to make sure I got a good one and got no answer from them!!

Strength:

Good resolution and balanced sound for music, very high performance for HT, good egronomics, user friendly remote, good built quality

Weakness:

akward selection surround modes...no gold plated RCAs....hmmmm....not much else

I downgraded from a fullblown audiophile and HT set up to a receiver and dvd player to prepare for my change in marital status (yikes!) and was looking for a receiver, which could deliver the goods. I have had the fortune to own world class equipment such as Krell (KSA 100), Symphonic Line (RG1 mkII), Sonic Frontiers (SFL1 and Line 2), Naim Nait II, Meridian (508.20), Nottigham Analogue (Spacedeck), Audionote (MI RIAA) etc, etc...so I had pretty high expectations. I initially set my sights on the Denon 3300, which received very good reviews in 2 different publications, and it had very nice aesthetics to boot. I had a very brief listen to the 3300 and felt that there was something missing...it was almost too clean...perhaps sterile would be the right word to describe it. But then again it was a very brief listen and unfamiliar equipment were being used so I cannot make a fair judgement on the performance of the Denon. Yet I was left with something wanting. Then I chanced upon the Onkyo 777. I looked up the website and felt that Onkyo actually cared about the sound quality of their products. The fact that the manufacturer quoted the dampening factor for the 777 was a good sign. (BTW 60 at 8 ohms doesn't say much as dampening factor is frequency dependent but perhaps Onkyo was trying to hint at something else. Maybe that is why the other guy who reviewed the 777 felt that the bass was anaemic). Anyway I tried to find as much information as I could about the 777 and dutifully read all the reviews posted on this site. The hiss problem worried me but I didn't hear this problem in the store so I took the plunge. My current set up includes the 777, Onkyo 525 dvd, Digital Phase AP4 for front (8 ohms, 91 db/W, 20 kHz - 35 hz), Digital Phase AP 0.7 for centre, Chario Hyper mk II for rear, Nordost Blue Heaven Spk cble for front, Tara Labs for centre and rear, Straight Wire Starlight coax and XLO 1.1 Signature (the latter costs more than the dvd player that it is tethered to!). My initial reaction to the 777 was very positive and I've had the 777's for about 2 weeks now, but after reading the earlier review where the gentlemen hammered the 777's bass response, I was determined to see if there was any truth to his findings. He was right about the high resolution of the 777, which was at times better than what I have heard with high-end equipment. I played the Sheffield drum tracks and could clearly make out the mike placement above the drums. The highs were very clean and detailed. The midrange was neutral and unmuddled. The drum set came across with impact and there was no ringing or overhang. I played track 6 with the volume at 0 (relative) and the 777 never clipped or sounded compressed. Ditto for all the bass torture test discs I tried (e.g. Fiesta!; Reference Records, Planet Drum; Ryko, Amused to Death, Daiko; Sheffield). Interestingly the bass quality sounded different from recording to recording, which is a good thing as it suggests that the 777 was neutral enough to let the recording through unscathed. The bass had definition and clarity as it had depth and impact. It also had the finesse to allow the pitch variations in Diana Krall's Love Scences accoustic bass to be heard clearly. Yes I've heard bass with more meat and lower extention through the AP4s with Krells, but how much are the Krells?!!! The probable reason for the poor bass response that Daryl experienced could be either the Paradigm Studio's bass response impedance drops below 6 ohms where the dampening factor of the 777 may not have enough grip; or the Toslink interface was showing it's true colours (perhaps the coax output would give better results). Or Daryl just got a defective unit. As for movies (we did buy these babies for movies right!) I put the 777 through the paces with Matrix, Titanic, Fifth Element, Devil's Advocate, Contact, and Godzilla and it convincingly outperformed my previous HT set up with more detail and impact. And DTS kicks BUTT (try Dances with Wolfs and you will know what deep bass is)!!! And I'm not using a sub, so that's testimony to the 777's bass capabilities (the AP4s are excellent performers too and are easy to drive). So much for trying to defend 777 (I after all paid money for these things!) Apart from that, the 777 scores in other areas too; the remote is light and easy to use, the smart scan is ingenious, the aesthetics grows onto you (mine is the gold version BTW:), the OSD is intuitive enough, the tuner is decent, and definitely no HISS!!! What more could one ask for from a product that costs as much as the 777...

YES, THEY WERE NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL THE NEXT DAY AND HE WOULD TRANSFERE ME TO THEIR VOICEMAIL BUT I WAS THEN CUTOFF INSTEAD!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM ONKYO DUE TO THE NO CARE ATTITUDE I GOT....AND I ALSO TRIED TO REACH THEM THROUGH THE WEBSITE AND GUESS WHAT....IF YOU BUT IT PRAY YOU NEVER NEED ANY SERVICE BECAUSE IF YOU DO...FORGET IT!!!!

Humming noise.

I received the worst customer service from Onkyo when trying to resolve the notorious humming noise generating from the ONKYO TXDS777. I customer service manager refused to authorize an exchange for my defective receiver. I was told that I had to send it to a local repair facility to install a ground loop isolator because the serial number on my receiver was beyond the estimated range of the potential defective receivers. I was absolutely enraged with the service manager's attitute. I am so dissappointed in Onkyo's poor customer service that I was compelled to write this review. I have lost all of my respect for this company. It is unfortunate for Onkyo that I work for a company that sells their product. I inform all of my customers of the potential problem that may arise from this product. Shame on Onkyo for treating their loyal customers so poorly.

Strength:

Power output is amazing, lighted learning remote, digital output, can choose S-Video or composite on-screen source, can assign each digital input to a source button.

Weakness:

Sometimes mouse button on remote "enters: when you want to move cursor or vice versa, the binding posts could use slightly bigger openings for bare wire or allow binding posts (not an issue with banana plugs), terrible spelling of English in manual.

I have only had this unit for about a week, but I am already impressed with the amount of clean power and the endless setup options! Special issues: the DSP modes are (mostly) very understated and very clean. My Adcom sounded like it was playing through oatmeal in DSP mode. The 5-channel stereo is quite good, although some material can sound weird on it. Implementation of Dolby Prologic is excellent. The "direct" mode which bypasses all processing is clean beyond description, but does bypass the subwoofer output to provide a flawless signal. I actually heard a horn player on a cd take a breath I never heard on my old system. The top stays warm to the touch at all times, but that is no surprise considering the 5x105-watt amps.

I considered the Denon 3300 very carefully, but decided the unique features (component video switching, eight inputs) were not worth the tradeoffs of a digital output and an easy to use remote. Bought mine new on E-Bay for $731 plus $18 shipping, and it was worth every cent. Extra cost: you may need all new speaker wire and interconnects because this baby does not mask a thing.

Strength:

DTS, THX and a good remote for the money.

Weakness:

There is a His sound that even the Tech support of Onkyo knows about. I talked to them about if there is any possible way of get the His out from the receiver, the only solution is to do a ground loop and that will only reduce the His.

I like the receiver for it possible ways of setting up the rest of the equipments, but this His just got to me and i returned the receiver in less the 2 weeks. I would not recomend this product to anybody because the His is following with the music so you will never have a clean sound. It's exellent if you just like to see DVD movies, but you need a good set-up of room and speakers before you will have any use of the THX. There is better products out there so keep looking.
