I have an Onkyo 656 (and love it) but was interested at looking at the new Onkyo's with DTS decoding. The 575 seems like a pretty good performer, but I'm really suprised that the 575 has no S-Video inputs (or on screen display). For a decent review of the 575, look at the latest issue of Audio/Video Review. For the basic functions of a reciever, the Onkyo does a decent job, and the remote is much improved over previous models. DTS decoding built-in and 6 channel inputs as well are nice touches. On-Screen display isn't that important, but the fact that S-video is missing from any receiver these days (especially one that does DTS Decoding for DVDs) easily loses at least 1 point). I'm deducting 1 1/2 for the S-Video, so my 4 1/2 star review of the basic functions is unfortunatly being posted as 3 stars. |

hi i just thought i would put my 2 cents in. I bought this reciaver about a week ago for a very reasonable price. So far i have enjoyed it but i do have little probs that i can live with(maybe you cant) there are no s-video (we all know that by now) so what it dont bother me. There is a hiss in my setup. Not blaring but it is there. it is most notable when you turn what your listening to (e.g. dvd movie) off and turn the volume all the way up which i could not handle if i were watching dvds or listening to music. i hear no hiss from the rears.only the fronts and center. Let me tell you it sounds great. better than any other reciever i have ever had (both older prologics). My last reciever allowed me to play "A" and "B" while in surround. this one will not.i defiantly love this reciever. i would recomend it to anyone. If you are worried about the hiss i wouldn't unless you get worried that there is a hiss there that you can not hear unless you but your ear to the speaker or turn the thing wide open to the max with no music playing (why would you do that)i would give it a 4 1/2 stars because of the little hiss and the other minor glitches but since this thing is the best thing i have had since my first candy bar it gets 5 of dem speakers!!! |

To follow up from my first review, I exchanged the Onkyo 575 for another, hoping the hiss was a defect. It was not. And while many people would prob. not find that noise offensive, I found it unacceptable for an amp with an MSRP over $500. |

Bought it for a decent price at yawa audio. Tried it out at Circuit City first and liked it a lot. Huge improvement over my Aiwa Pro Logic receiver. No hissing at all under any settings. The 5 channel surround is great. It really shines in DD/AC-3 sound from my Toshiba 3109. Almost freaked me out in a couple movies when I heard sounds coming from the sides/behind me. Not used to that kind of quality. For the price (430 shipped), I can't think of a better receiver that features what the Onkyo has, mainly 5 channel surround and AC-3/DTS decoding. Great buy. |

Okay.... I am seeing that a lot of recent reviews are talking about a hiss noise produce with this receiver. Let me see if I can shed some light on this subject. |

Strength:
AC-3, DTS, 75x5 (more than enough when its Onkyo), great remote
Weakness:
bad reviews from the misinformed I think those who complain of hiss must have dipped their receiver in water before using, because this receiver outputs powerful, accurate, and clean sound always. There is no other receiver in its price range that can perform anywhere near as well as the 575. Similar Products Used: TX-DS676, TX-DS555 |

I have this unit for about a week and watch a few DVD movies on it. I'm really pleased with its performance. I buy it to replace my aging HK AVR20 II Pro Logic receiver. The improvement is very noticeable. Much better sound stage and stereo image. The power is more than enough for my room (15'x15'). For $400, it's really a great buy. I can live without S-video switching. The only problem I have is during a playback of a DTS Liar Liar. Some "clicking" sound appears from time to time. I'm not sure if it's a bad disc, my DVD player (SD3109), or my new Onkyo receiver. I haven't had a chance to play another DTS disc. I hope it's not coming from this receiver. About the "hisssss" some people mentioned in earlier post. I don't have this problem myself. It's a very quiet receiver in my setup. Overall, I'm very happy with it. Also like the learning and marco functions on the remote. The joystick is very handy for on screen manual. |

This is an update of my previous review. Unfortunately, my Onkyo TX-DS 575 has also developed a very audible HISSSSSS! Roger, from Florida in a previous review states that if two receivers are bad it must be something other that the reciever. No disrespect intended, but talk about flawed logic! If the same problem exists with two receivers it's most likely one of two things; a design flaw or poor quality control in a given batch. I had a Sony STR-DE 835, hooked up to the same components, to the same surge protector/power condition, and I never had hiss or hum. As I turn the volume up, within the hiss I start to hear a popping, repeating noise. It sounds like the power cycle of a transformer, or the like. My guess is poor shielding within the reciever. Shame on Onkyo. To further disprove this "interference caused by an outside source" theory, I unplugged EVERYTHING in my apartment, and still I had that damn hiss! Whatever it is, in my case it is definetely coming from within the unit itself, due to the aforementioned lack of proper sheilding. |

Strength:
5 Channel Stereo, remote, DD/DTS decoding, styling
Weakness:
None so far Just received my rcvr yesterday via UPS. Hooked it up to my Cerwin Vega Fronts, Infinity RS-3s for rears and still waiting for my sub and center speakers. So far so good. This unit is awsome! lots of clean power, I can play it loud(65) without hurting my ears. 5 chnl stereo was truely enjoyable. Played some old stereo Cd's and they all came alive in this mode.I don't know how they do it,but it works great. This unit has plenty of cool features to please newbies and pros alike. Setup was easy with easy to read manual. DSP modes work geat. For those of you who are complaining about hissing problem, I found none on my unit. Maybe some investment in quality speakers wires will remedy the problem. So far Iam a happy customer. Have had onkyo products for the last 10 yrs and so far dont's see any reason to switch to any other brand. Onkyo engineers have done a great job combine top notch quality and most used features in a affordable HT receiver. I give it a very happy 5. Similar Products Used: None |

After looking at numerous stores and hearing all of the saleman preferences as well as listening to the numerous receivers, I decided to come to audioreview.com to see what real people thought of their equipment. I wasn't looking for perfection, I just wanted something that would sound really good. I wasn't planning on paying the extra for DTS, but after reading about it, I figured for the right price, it would be great to have. I narrowed my search down to three receivers and after reading about the Onkyo TX DS575, I decided that it sounded like what I was looking for. I purchased it over Ebay through bestpriceaudiovideo.com for under $400 and have been thrilled to death with all aspects of this unit. The remote is very easy to use and programming is a snap after you do a couple of functions. I teamed it up with Klipsch speakers and sub-woofer. The sound is incredibly clean and the home theater experience is truly awesome. I am a very happy buyer and highly recommend this unit to anyone that wants an excellent home theater unit at a very good price. |
