Strength:

The Integra DTR-6 by Onkyo will impress any serious Home Theater enthusiast. It is by far the best receiver in it's class, and will impress you with it's sound quality, features, looks, construction and value. The topper was the fact that it offers 5 channel stereo, giving your surround and center speakers full volume while listening to music - a feature Yamaha does not offer even in it's higher priced units. The remote control is totally programmable, lighted, and looks like it belongs on this planet (see Yamaha's for a good laugh).

Weakness:

If you were looking for a weekness, I guess you could argue that it does not have THX certification. The DTR-7 does have it, if that is what you are looking for. I personally do not need THX and the other features found on the DTR-7, which makes this unit the perfect one for me.

Appearance:
The DTR-6 has an attractive, brushed steel look and a sturdy solid design. The digital display is blue and easy to read, and offers 3 levels of illumination. The selector buttons are sturdy and located nicely underneath the display, split by video and music categories.

Components:
This unit uses the highest quality components. It has all gold connectors - RCA and S-video. It has 4 digital inputs - 2 coax, 2 optical - that you can assign. The volume control does not skyrocket at the slightest nudge (a sign of inferior workmanship), but rather glides gently. The unit also has continuous power of 85 watts per channel, which as I understand is rated lower than actual. Other units peak at 85 watts - this unit can deliver serious, clean sound at any listening level with no fuzz at all. Pre-outs for all channels.

Sound:
As stated, this delivers great sound at any level. The DTS digital format sounds better than the theater! It automatically senses the format, and delivers the best sound possible. 5 channel stereo sounds excellent, and justifies buying quality surround speakers.

Remote:
Totally programmable. Nice looking. Lighted. Would not have to take a course in brain surgery to learn how to use. Offers macro programming, also.

Value:
Absolutely the best value for the money. By not offering a lot of unneccesary features, but still keeping everything you want, Onkyo can offer this unit at a very affordable $830 or less.

So what do I really think?
I love it. You will, too. Totally worth the investment.

Similar Products Used:

I have used a Yamaha Pro-logic series receiver, only to be gravely dissapointed in the rear surround channels. I was all set to buy a Yamaha digital receiver, but first I did my homework. The more I learned about the internal components, etc. used by them, the less I was interested. Not to mention I never used or liked the Cinema DSP's they include. Do your own research, you will find out the same.

Strength:

Delivers very clear sound with a distinct seperation of channels.

Weakness:

channel buttons for tv at bottom of remote. listening through bose satelites.

Picked up my dtr for $800 at local dealer and couldnt be happier with the performance for that price. Id like some one to show me a better made, more quality receiver for the money. Power seems to be plenty as its more than my bose can handle. I feel its an injustice to put its clean, smooth sound through such choking speakers. (one upgrade at a time). 5-channel stereo mode is great. Use it for music and tv. Very fuctional as I was up and running shortly after my purchase with some fine tuning the following days. As I stated earlier the only thing I dont like is the tv channel buttons are at the bottom of the remote making you hold the very bottom of the remote to channel surfing.

*one last note: As my home theatre slowly uprades over time
and component after component says goodbye
to the later and greater. I know my DTR will
keep pace and performance with anything I
build around it.

Strength:

This unit produces very clean and acurate power. Smooth power through out all frequency ranges. Do not let the 70 watt rating fool you, this unit kicks butt.

Weakness:

Have to turn it up to around 50 to get it to kick, but once you do it is " AMAZING "

I am a professional Installer for Pittsfield Radio. I have the advantage of testing and playing with all brands that we sell. By far this Onkyo Integra DTR-5.1 is the best in its price range ($600.00)I was lucky enough to buy this unit at a discount price. I tested unit far more expensive, and they do not even come close to this one. Watched the Matix last night in Dolby Digital, and it was amazing compared to watching it through my old receiver.

This unit is clean powerfull and is WELL WORTH THE MONEY. If any of you are considering purchasing a new receiver, please do yourself a favor and listen to the Onkyo Integra DTR-5.1 before buying anything. This unit is far above the rest and Onkyo is setting new standards in the Home Theather catagory.

Strength:

This unit is very well made, it's tactile feel, from the volume controll to the push buttons, let you know that you are useing a high quality reciever. I also love the solid bass and presence of the sound. The 5 channel stereo is impressive. This unit is also very flexable and infinately adjustable. An awesome center-piece to a great A-V system!!

Weakness:

It needs an Amp-in, Pre-Out connection for an EQ, like the DTR-7. I worked arround this though.

As you can probally tell I REALLY like this reciever!! The sound is more powerful than my Onkyo A8067, even though they have the same power rateing. I feel I'm ready for anything that comes down the pike, becuse this reciever is really future proof. It's back panel will show you that! S-Video connections, Optical Video inputs, all the goodies are here! I could go on and on about DSP modes, speaker volume calibrations, on screen displays, but I'll keep this short. If you're planning to spend 750-800$ on an A-V Reciever, do yourself a favor and audition an INTEGRA DTR-6 by Onkyo! I Really like mine!
