Strength:

Beautiful in design, beautiful in quality and clarity of sound. Intuitive placing of controls, proabally the best receiver that I have EVER used in my lifetime.

I've used quite a few receivers, and I thought I was sold on Onkyo. However, when I saw a Nakamichi AV-2, I was blown away. I wanted to get rid of my Onkyo, and get this wonderful masterpiece. It's low distortion - .01% - gives me the best quality that I have ever heard on my Acoustic Research 98ls Speakers, combined with my Nad C540 CD player. Plus, I got it off of eBay for cheap. I may consider purchasing an AV-1 later on as my need for power increases (AV-2 is 70watts/ch on main speakers, while AV-1 is 100watts/ch, plus the AV-1 has a few other, but not a lot, advantages).

A great buy!

Strength:

SOUND, SOUND, SOUND....oh yeah, and conservative power rating.

Weakness:

No S-video inputs/outputs.

I bought this unit new back in the early 90's. It has performed flawlessly ever since.
When I purchased this unit, I was able to do A/B sound comparisons between Yamaha, Denon, and Nakamichi receivers. Believe me, there was no comparison...the Nak made the others sound like some cheap boom box at Walmart. I also was able to bring both the Nak and the Denon units home and try them out with my system. Even though the Denon had a much higher power rating, it actually audibly clipped on my NHT speakers...almost to the point of shutting down. The more conservatively rated Nak played beautifully....and it has ever since.

I run all home entertainment system audio thru this receiver, but do not use the video inputs/outputs. If you run your video thru your receiver, then you may want to get an AV1 which has S-video inputs/outputs.

Whatever you do, get you one of these receivers. You will not believe your ears!!!!!!

Strength:

Finest Built AV Receiver I have ever seen and easy to use.

Thanks to advice from others I found this unit brand new and I must say it is totally unbelievable. The unit is built so well and very easy to operate and the sound is just breath taking. All controls and functions are very easy to use as well as the remote. The only fall back is I find it very hard to turn it off and go to bed at night, I could listen 24 hours a day and I think my wife believes I have forgotten all about her. If you are able to find one of these babies grab it while you can and you will fall in love! Awesome!

I recently acquired a used Nakamichi RE-1 receiver, and have been totally impressed by it clear musical sound and warm bass. A friend introduced to the Nakamichi receiver line, although I have owned a Nakamichi tape deck for years. However, It has not been on the market since I first saw it a year or two back. However, aftr much looking I managed to obtain one in very good condition in the classified's, and paid only $400 Canadian for it. (Less than $300.00 U.S.) I consider that a very good deal since it is a third of it's original price, but has much more than a third of it's life left. I also appreciate it's unified remote which allows me to control both by tape deck and cd (both Nak). Overall, I couldn't be more pleased.

I have recently picked up this Pro-Logic receiver and have not stopped being impressed. It has ample power for all 5 channels, and with it's pre-in/outs I am ready to upgrade to seperate amps for each. The musicality of this piece is incredible. Well worth the money.
