Strength:

Great power reserves. Great for both movies and music. Never harsh on the ears.I also like the way it looks. Much more attractive that a Denon of equal costs

Weakness:

For the price even at $1000.00....none

Like the writer/reviewer a few posts below, I was scared to death to buy this unit because of the quality issues. I don't deny that those who have stated their experiences of MAJOR problems are valid; but not with the one I bought. It was refurbished and I was also told that NAD retests these prior to shipping. The person also said that "if you have a good unit, you have a good one that will be very reliable." After using this receiver for approx. 5 months non-stop (I am one who has it on 24/7 in some way.)I have had ZERO problems. Just lucky I guess! I took the chance because I wanted a receiver for both movies and music without spending big bucks. NAD units have lots of power reserves and are not harsh on the ears at the higher frequencies. Just for kicks the other night, I played Metallica Electra track 5 at volume 00 through my Ascend Acoustics. No compression, no distortion what-so-ever. Just clean sound! Not bad for 600 bucks. I've found it to reproduce vocals very clear and out in front. Great on jazz singers and instruments.

Weakness:

QUALITY, would not buy again. Too many problems.

Hi this is an update of my previous review. More quality problems with this unit (GIYT76105685). In stereo mode my speakers are connected to the A set of speakers, none are connected to B. However, the right channel stopped working suddenly. After switching the speakers to set B it worked fine. Switching to A was still the same. Than again back to B and...the right speaker was dead! Back to A and right channel still dead. Now I turned on both sets (A+B) and voila it worked. I have to switch A (sepaker connected) and B (no speakers connected) to have the right channel on set A working. And now the attenuator started giving a klicking background noise. Hmmmm. And the sound degraded, it got fizzy and harsh. Power is greatly reduced, sounds like a boom box. Returned to Sound Company in San Diego, but this time they send it for repair (will take approx. 2 weeks) and did not exchange with a new unti as they did before. They said it is a "mechanical" problem. To be continued I am afraid. Murat

Strength:

Full featured, relatively low price compared to competition.

Weakness:

Some serious quality control issues -- good 'value for money' is pointless with this kind of reliability. Delay in automatic detection of music sources means that I always hit the 'back' button for the beginning of my CD tracks to hear the first track in its entirety.

While I love this receiver when it has worked, I've had nothing but problems from the speaker and pre-amp outs on this thing. Center channel speaker-out would intermittently get low in volume and crackly. Now it's completely dead. Right channel speaker out then started to do the same thing. Same thing with Left channel pre-amp out. Went through repeated extensive (and frustrating) exercises of swapping cables, speakers, power amps to try to isolate problems. Also, within a week of use, the power outlet on the back of the receiver blew, so I couldn't get any other components powered up by using the T761 remote. I am finally sending this thing in for service. Enough has failed that I can't bypass an area of failure. Hopefully, my experience will be more positive once it's fixed. Based on my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend this receiver Configuration: NAD T761. 2-NAD 2200 power amps. Infinity Overture 3 front, Overture 1 Center Channel and Rear Surrounds.

Strength:

better sound that you have a right to expect for $600, simple setup and operation, did I mention really good hifi sound_

Weakness:

frustrating remote, some doubts about quality due to reading previous posts )mine is fine so far...=

Well you guys scared the daylights out of me! After reading the reviews here I was extremely hesistant to buy this receiver but after speaking with the seller he sld me a refurbished 761 and explained that my risk was o% since NAD pretested these units beofre they went out and they were still covered by warantee. well, no sparks or smoke here! Since hooking them up I have enjoyed great clean sound. Yes they are somewhat less than powerful with my inefficient speakers (88db) but the sound is clean and well detailed. The digital decoding is first class, even the EARRS feature sounds pretty darn good. I have not experienced the popping noise mentioned by some below either. The remote is a weak point just as stated in the other reviews but it works pretty well as a reciever only unit, forget trying to progam it for multi unit operations...hahaha...runs hot so give it plenty of room...though it does not match my two channel systems (McIntosh and vintage Marantz) sound it does a really respectable job of playing CDs...though I sit now in my HT sometimes still worrying that it may blow up due to previous posts I am enjoying every minute of it in my home theatre. For the money it has the best sound I have heard.

Strength:

Sound with music (CD and SACD), digital signal processing, connections, no-frill attitude,

Weakness:

remote, quality, small and crammed speaker binding posts

One week after purchase the left rear chanel blew. The people at Sound Company simply replaced it with a new unit. I like this receiver but they do have some quality issues (see above). The new unit made a humming sound until it was burned-in for 10d (constant music play). My T761 drives m782 front (bi-wired), m71 rear and m7c center. It struggles to play loud with the T761 (home listening levels around -3dB on the attenuator) in stereo mode but has a very fine sound. In 5.1 mode it sound also fine and has good signal processing. The remote sucks, too lousy. EARS is good but not essential. In general I am very happy with the receiver and enjoy listening to it. I like its looks and color.

CD Sound in Stereo

Weakness:

Cinema Sound in Dolby and Dolby Digital

First Amp blew, it was the rear left speaker, this took place on the first day so I wasnt very happy form the start. I have noticed that most people have given it a good rating when it comes to the sound quality. Before I was using a Sony STR 940 which I found very impressive when it came to the Dolby Digital Mode. Playing CDs it was terrible. I decided to get rid and buy a Nad amp both for its universal use of both cinema amp and a cd music amp combined. I must admit the amp does play cds very well in the stereo mode, but Im not impressed with the Dolby cinema side of things. The music lacks depth and bass, midrange is muffled while the treble is spot on.

Strength:

Good sound when works

Weakness:

Poor quality control. Very VEry Very poor customer service. I've made over 10 phone calls and written 10 emails with very little response..

761 sounds great, quality of build is crap. First 761 center channel dropped out. Then subwoofer wouldn't turn off in any 2 channel mode. Unit couldn't be fixed at NAD service center. After fighting, got brand new 761, and out of the box the subwoofer cannot be turned off in 2 channel mode.. even if I select off in the menu, it stays on..

Getting a lemon the first time around

This is a follow-up on the below review. NAD has replaced my receiver. I have had it on constantly for a few days in various modes. At this point it has performed flawlessly! It appears that my original unit was of the lemon variety. I must say that NAD offered to replace the original unit and within a week I had the new one.
