Strength:

Clear and detailed sound gold plated terminal very, very musical Channels are discrete from each other

Weakness:

Setup menu is slow and doesn't respond to comands until several pushes on the joy stick. Not always but alot of the time

This is an excellent receiver. I upgraded from a pioneer elite and when I first turned the 7300ose on I could hear the difference. The sound is much more full and rich. It is very clear and detailed. If you put a bad recording thru it the Marantz will let you know. You will hear every flaw on the dvd or cd. Dvd's are great with this receiver. I get the feeling that I am hearing the sound track exactly as the director wanted me to hear it. Runs warm but not hot. I have been very satisfied with this receiver and would not hesitate to recomend it to anyone.

Strength:

Power, audio quality, # inputs good for most systems.

Weakness:

Remote sucks (of course I was never planing on using it since I already owned a home theatre master).

This is a very good reciever. Is it worth the extra over the 7300 (now 7400) I will let your budget decide. Personally, I say yes. There is an improvement in audio quality and power that is noticeable. The question to ask is the improvement worth the extra $. I noticed this reciever made my speakers (Paradigm monitor series with a PW series sub) sound better than ever. In S-direct mode the sound is phenominal. I can speak volumes about this reciever however in the end hearing it for yourself is the best solution. Let your ears decide (it would be best if you go to a dealer that has your speakers or equivilent; the dealer I went to sells paradigm so I had them hook up my speakers to hear it has I would) As far as the S-direct mode not allowing the use of a subwoofer. Think about it ,the S-direct mode skips all audio processing therefore it skips bass management. If you want a subwoofer during S-direct just hook your sub to the front L/R pre-outs instead of the subwoofer pre-out then set the subwoofer to none, set your front to Large and your done. The LFE on DVD's will be diverted to the fronts with the sub so no LFE will be lost. My system: Marantz SR-7300OSE Paradigm Monitor 9 (Front L/R) Paradigm CC-370 X 2 (Front and rear center) Paradigm ADP-370 (Rear L/R) Paradigm SW-2200 (Subwoofer)

Strength:

Clean, clear sound, pleasing quality Analog and digital inputs for all sources Source Direct for best quality Solid clean power right up to max levels Fairly easy to operate

Weakness:

Small monochrome display Weak speaker binding posts fixed, ungrounded power cord

My dealer, Marty at Hi-Q in Thousand Oaks, CA recommended the 7300OSE as a solution to the audiophile conundrum: "How do I keep decent stereo music sound and add DVD/surround capability". Good news...it works! The OSE delivers very clean, musical quality. Perhaps a little extra bass bloom, and "air" in the HF, but never harsh or grainy. Noticable improvement in "Source Direct" mode. Good power supply. It drives my Dynaudio Contour 3.0's to satisfying levels in stereo, but runs a little short of power in surround with the Dyn Audience 120 center and Jamo 100 surrounds. Still, the surround sound field is clean and clear, deceptively quiet so it shocks when the crash and bang arive on the sound tracks. Many smiles from visiting friends. Music in stereo is delightful. Front end is the Arcam DV88, providing superb CD stereo, and DVD playback. Music sounds clearer, more detail, using the analog output of the Arcam, but still excellent with the 7300OSE's digital input. Next step is an outboard power amp with auto turn-on for the mains...as in the Sterophile review, the Contour 3.0 woofer "fluffs" on loud bass peaks as the 7300 runs out of current to control woofer travel...not "thunk" as in bottoming out or distorted, and the receiver recovers instantly. Great unit, satisfied customer.

Strength:

Very good sound , extremely musical

Weakness:

Might have a hard time with difficult to drive speakers

I have to say that I am becoming more and more impressed with this reciever every day.I am an audiophile and I wasn't expecting to hear such good sound out of a reciever that I bought to make a home theater for the wife and her friends. In fact after I bought it, I was really unimpressed with the sound and thought it sounded a little lifeless and dull. But as time has gone by and I tweaked a few things the sound has become very, very good in true audiophile fashion. I first used a PS Audio Ultimate outlet and Analysis Plus speaker cables with my Paradigm Reference studio 100v2s and Studio CC and Adp surrounds. My source is a Sony DVP999ES. I thought it sounded ok but I wasn't really impressed and started thinking I should get rid of it and go to seperates. But just on a whim, I bought some new double run biwire speaker cables from a company called Signal Cable and the things I didn't like previously changed. The soundstage became more focused and the bass seemed to become slightly more defined. It seemed as though a clarity and transparency emerged that really brought this system into the realm of seperates that has kind of surprised me. I wish the reciever had a little more power but I can say that I no longer feel the need to upgrade. The sound is that good. It definatel benefits from the right cables and source equipment.

Strength:

Crystal 192 KHZ/24 Bit D/A's on all 8 channels. RS 232C Terminal. DD EX and DTS ES. Massive Power Supply and transformer, HDCD decoding, gold plated connectors, and OSD.

Weakness:

No upconverting of video signals from composite to S-Video. No THX Certification. No OSD through Component out. Remotes look and joystick control.

A fairly well rounded receiver. The "OSE" version is nice with the gold plated connectors, beefy power supply, HDCD decoder. Setup was easy. Going from my old receiver(Sony GA7ES) to the SR 7300 OSE was a huge change. It's a very clean and powerful receiver that sounds great for music and HT. Most of the surround modes are usable which is suprising to me since I usally don't care for them. Especially the Circle Surround modes. My B&W 602 S2's and Velodyne SPL 1200 work well with the Marantz. The remote is one of the most aweful looking things I've ever seen but it "learned" and controlled about 95% of the functions from all of my other remotes. Setting up macro's was a breeze. No upconverting of video from composite to S-Video. But a nice OSD and menu screen. All in all this was a great buy.

Strength:

Stable at loud volumes. Has the umph to power more demanding speakers. Clean sound and many DSP options. Much stronger than the standard 7300 model

Weakness:

Price may scare many. Crummy remote. (Buy a home theater master.)

I took this unit home on demo to try it out. I have become quite accustomed to my B&K AV5000 amp and Yamaha Pre combo so I was a bit skeptic of an all-in-one. I ran the unit for a week solid to break it in but found there was little to no difference in performance afterwards. Perhaps the OSE option includes a "pre" break-in. The verdict. Does it sound like a pre/pro? No. Does it sound like an all-in-one? No. Let's call it a happy medium. Marantz has really turned itself arround in the past 7 or so years and this unit really proves it. Pushing my fairly demanding B&W's seemed to be pretty easy for the 7300 OSE. The highs were a little strong, and the lows slightly weaker, but this is to be expected from a receiver. Where the OSE really shines is it's ability to drive at more demanding levels. Strong DTS tracks were no problem for this unit and I found no tapering off of performance at louder levels. All the DSP's were very accurate and 2ch was good as well. If a receiver is what you are looking for, look no further. The OSE is great for the price and provides stable performance and a clean presentation. For the price, I feel a better deal is no where to be found. My audio source is a Marantz DV6200 DVD player with Tributaries Direct Connect interconnects. I feel that this unit puts out fairly clean, uncolored sound.

Strength:

SACD quality The surround soundstage is much more impressive than the Sony 777ES I bought 3 years ago.

Weakness:

no firewire input which seems to be the next breakthrough in Hifi industry (the Sony and Pioneer new models are equipped with such components) Not enough muscle to drive less sensitive speakers

Although it costs substantially more than the standard version, I think it is well worth it because the sound you get from the OSE is in a total different level. I also bought the DV8300 and the music you get from playing SACD is very similar to hifi component which sold for at least USD10000 5-6 years back. So my comment is that you are buying the 7300OSE because it is a product of advance technology. Accordingly, to get the most out of it, you would need to update your DVD/CD player as well. I chose Marantz obviously for the audio potential of it but the video quality from the machine is also amazing. The image projected on my Sony profeel pro monitor is sharp and accurate.

Weakness:

Not sure I believe this unit will ever be upgraded via the RISC port Remote is sluggish through programming the menus

After my Denon 2800 was thieved, I settled on the Marantz 7300OSE. I agree with the other reviews, this is quite a musical receiver. I mainly bought this receiver for home theatre use, but the circle surround music mode, has actually made me go out and buy CD's again...very cool! This receiver makes my old Clement's speakers sound very good.

Strength:

-Sound -Hardware -many others

Weakness:

-Remote is just OK.

I recently purchased this unit as a replacement for my aging, and very mediocre Technics 5.1 reciever. As technologies progressed, I held off upgrading for many years, as I couldn't find a thing for around 1200 bux that wowed me. As with many who may be reading this review know all too well, being born with a good ear can be a curse. Truely discriminating ears can land you in the poor house faster than a top fuel dragester gets to 60mph. I gave up looking around some time ago, very frustrated, as things I liked were always out of my price range, that is until now... On par with Marantz reputation for producing more musical products, this unit is so musical it nearly put me in the orchestra pit, from my old seat 15 rows back. Its versital enough to handle any current setup/technologies, sounds as good if not better than many recievers costing twice the price, and contains the added benifits of many bells, wistles and hardware bonuses associated with the next level. Its just now opening up, and sounding better everday. I'm truely in awe of the new found power, clarity, and overall depth this piece has brought to my set-up. Movies sound unreal, and I have litterally fallen in love with my music again. Man what a reciever. Thanks Marantz.

Strength:

Audiophile build quality, very powerful, you will not have to preamp this one. The sound is sweet, and very dynamic when need to be. HT is outstanding. Source direct is awesome in both music and HT. Future ready and custom installation ready.

Weakness:

Remote is good but not bad!!!

Well folks, I guess I am the first one to post a review for the 7300ose. BTW ose stands for original special edition, something Marantz started back when. OSE also means supercharged version which includes audiophile upgrades in the power supply amp and preamp stages. Which means this thing is very heavy and apparently well built. The 7300ose replaces my old Teac 9320 which was probably the best receiver at its price point. Just check the reviews here. I have had this receiver for only one week and people, people, I can already hear and feel the difference. At first listen it was powerful, bass weighty, but a little glare in the mid range and little edgy in the treble. As I write this review while listening to Soundscape UK, "SURREAL THING" after a short breakin period, the sound is coming together slowly but surely, sweet and more sweet, just like Marantz receivers supposed to sound, period Equipment: Marantz 7300ose; 2-Parasound 150 watt monoblocks peamped out from the Teac 9320 Acoustic Research, venerable 302's -fronts Canton Nestor 403 - center Mirage FRX One's - surrounds Infinity Sterling - back Adire Audio Rava - 12" Powered Subwoofer Pioneer DV-414 DVD Player Onkyo Integra C606 CD Player Dual - Turntable
