Strength:

Design, build quality, learning remote. Circle Surround great way to enjoy non-5.1 encoded CD,VHS,any stereo source in a multi-channel simulation. 3-Year Warranty says it all about how they stand behind their products. I will be getting a Marantz DV8300 muti format disc player in the next year to really enter the 21st century!

Weakness:

Original unit purchased (SR4200) was defective. But I could see where a properly executed Marantz product would be very desireable and worth owning.

Having used audioreview.com to help make my decision on buying my first AV receiver, I thought it due time to give my remarks on the SR7200. Like a few others in this review column, it has been some time since I purchased a piece of home audio gear. Computers, TV's, and digital cameras was where I was spending until I read 3 glowing magazine reviews about the entry level SR4200. Figured at the price, it would be a good start. Once I had the SR4200 in my home, I was elated. The stereo performance was fantastic and my DVD's could now be fully appreciated. All was well until the unit began shutting itself down for no reason. Since it was to be returned for replacement, I investigated the remainder of the Marantz line. The advantages of upgrading to the SR7200 were clear - 6.1, CircleSurround, more power, component video switching and a superb learning remote. Of course, I was now spending double what I originally intended, but the SR7200 has been worth it - if just for the remote and addt'l watts. The auto detect for input signal setting is great. The imaging is enables my speakers to provide (infamous Optimus LX5II, Bose center, AR PR808 8" dual sub) is like hearing them with the cotton out of my ears. My LaserDisc player has new sonic legs! The construction and design of the unit is masterful - The two lagre knobs for mode settings and volume are beveled and set in a way that is pure Marantz. Having longed for a Marantz stereo back in the 70's when I was 12, this has been a very cool way to start off my 40's. The rest of the family enjoys this audio mid-life non crisis. Strength:

Features, extensibility, sound.

Weakness:

Not all functionality (particularly the remote) is obvious to use and configure at first. This is temporary, a few minutes and you'll be a master.

I had purchased a Yamaha RXV-1200 a few months ago, but it was causing me grief because the component video from my xbox was flickering. I think this was because the RXV-1200 doesn't switch HDTV, but it may have also been a defect. Either way, I wanted a new receiver. I was trying to decide between the Marantz 7300 and the NAD T752. I really liked the simplicity of the NAD, but saw parity between the features of the 7300 and my previous amp. I decided to go with the 7300, and I have been very pleased. After I installed it, I was convinced I would need to purchase a new remote, as the 7300s remote seemed big, cumbersome and complicated. I have now learned that this remote is VERY well designed and works perfectly for all my components... The system sounds great once configured (not obvious at first, but follow the manual and it will become intuitive). All in all, highly recommended.

Strength:

Good sound and very good picture for comparably little money. I have had no problems with mine.

Weakness:

Would like front panel display to allow setup without having to have display minitor on. Speaker binding posts should accept spades.

I am very pleased with the performance of this receiver, and quite suprised by its two channel music performance. Coming from a hi-end stereo setup to a moderate HT system, I was expecting to lose my ability to listen to and enjoy two-channel music. However, the overall performance of the 7200 is quite good, with none of the noise and brashness I was expecting from a receiver in this price range. It does not have the "you are there" abilities of my previous separates (Krell), but adds nothing bad. In addition, the video section is quite good as there appears to be no degredation of the picture when using the receiver's inputs and outputs. lame remote

I've just bought one (november 2002) with S/N: MZ010145002383. I think it's from a leftover stock, no? It does the thumbing noises from time to time when swithing on. "Night mode" doesn't seem to do anything. Did anybody else notice this problem?

Weakness:

No bass and treble controls on the front panel. Remote will not change bass and treble settings. Remote too complicated. Worst unit I have ever had.

I have had this unit for 3 months. 8 channel surround sound just rumbles through the house...even with surround speaker very low. Far too much bass.

I suspect that the unit I bought was defective (A 2002 7300 model). Damnn, it looks great and offers many more sophisticated features than my RX-1300 Yamaha. Unfortunately, I was pretty fed up with going through the trouble of exchanging the Yamaha on this Marantz only to find that it was defective. I was very disappointed in the lack of access to the subwoofer in most of the surround modes. wtf?

Strength:

crystal clear sound, both in stereo and homecinema. learning remote control can handle most of the appliances.

Weakness:

remote control's need to choose an operating mode. for instance when mode is set to tuner and you want to shut down you have to choose the 'amp' mode first.

Good and powerful receiver. Handles different surround modes very well. The circle surround (CSR5.1) mode is far better than Dolby Prologic II. Easy to use and a very user-friendly interactive set-upprogram (OSD). Had some problems when shutting down; a loud plop came from the speakers. Marantz fixed it (something to do with weak elco's) and now it ok. Together with the Visonik speaker-units (front E-702; centre E-centre; rear E-352) a very fine and detailed sound is created. I have no subwoofer installed (yet) because the 702's go very deep. However I'm thinking about it (to enjoy the bass-impact at a lower soundlevel). A very good price/quality ratio

Strength:

Two-channel stereo, DTS surround, intuitive remote control.

Weakness:

Jog-wheel for bass management on remote control. Heavily depentant on OSD.

I am the owner of the Marantz SR 7200 receiver for about 7 months now and are a happy listener. The SR 7200 is a formidable A/V receiver. What a great sound!! It does have all the exciting essentials. The two- channel stereo sounds very transparant with a hint of darkness (bass) at the background. The SR 7200 has plenty power for home conditions. The surround effects, especially the DTS format coded films, are very convincing. The Marantz SR 7200 makes it unquestionably clear that it's safe to come on down.
