Strength:

Ergonomics, ease of use, lot of inputs, nice remote
control

Weakness:

Marantz gives too much priority to Higher frequencies, so
bandwith is a problem. Power not as high as specified

I would suggest, that people should buy this item from an
Authorized Marantz Dealer, and should test it in the
shop for the following.

Play the unit for 30 minutes at a considerable
volume and then reduce the volume to minimum,
slowly. Check whether there is any POP sound
coming out of the speakers.

Connect a DVD or CD player's Digital output to
this unit's Optical Digital input. Play the CD.
See whether there is a POP sound after every track
change. This will happen after sometime. not
immediately.

Check whether S-Video is working correctly.

If all OK, then its upto the consumer. I was not very
satisfied. I changed it twice and now deciding for
something else.

Price and sound

Weakness:

Remote! I really don't know anything else!?

Yesterday I listened to Miles Davis a Kind of Blue record.
When I first heard the Saxophone sound I actually turned a round looking for the player standing in my room:-) I can't
describe the sound better than that!
The sr-6200 Is a very good allround(music) receiver too.
If you need a good receiver for both movies and sound(you can get both:-), take a look at sr-6200!

Strength:

ease of use, crystal clear sound, good for movies (DTS, 5.1, 6.1) Average on music, fantastic price, best for entry level into movie surround.

Weakness:

Occasional "Pop" (Twice in 3 weeks during track changing)

I am reviewing on the 6200. I guess it is almost similar to 7200. I know that many people complain here on the "POP". I think it has to be due to the power supply thing. I bought a power supply filter and have not heard any more "POP" so far. It may be incapable to filter off the "POP" due to noise from the supply or what. I don't know, someone tell me please. But on the whole outook it is a excellent reciever.

I was totally blown away watching "The Mummy Returns" in Dobly Digital 5.1. I run it with Denon 8201 and 8301 at the dealer's showroom and the Denon's sounded good as well.

Comparing the two, I found Marantz better as it takes me out and away from my room giving more depth, wherelse Denon sounded too stable and controlled, which to me doesn't seems to transport me into the movies. Besides Denon cost much more. Then, what makes me decided to buy Marantz was when I played "Seven" opening scene in DTS and sure enough my heart just said, "I got to have that". I heard something that I never heard before and comparing with Denon, it seems to work more with my senses. With the pricing, I couldn't resist. Maybe I have Marantz ears and not Denon's.

For the last three weeks, I have really enjoyed it. Though I wish listening to my CD could have been better but I am satisfied with the result nevertheless. I have a higher standard with Stero play as I have a long history of playing with it. But for the movies, this unit works perfectly. I would recommend it to people with small apartment and to people who is more of an outdoor person. I do not think a reciever should keep people indoor all the time.

System I work with, Tannoy SLR6 front speakers (These are fantastic speakes and the work splendidly with Marantz 6200, Tannoy Center Speaker, Mission 580 for rears.

Strength:

Sound Quality, Build Quality, 6 channel amp, Pro-Logic 2, Price.

Weakness:

Remote not backlit.

This review is actually for the SR6200. I heard this line of receivers were taking a beating from Sound and Vision and it appears from reviewers on this site as well. I didn't find out about the bad reviews until after I bought mine. Its a good thing because I would have missed out on a great receiver. It looks like there might have been some production problems with these but the one I got is perfect. The only receiver I have ever heard that is quieter was an old tube type Marantz. I can hear no popping, or hissing, or any noise at all at any volume level. I have it mated with Infinity speakers front and surround, and a CSW Newton P500 sub. I have to say that my systems is sounding better than ever. I'm so satisfied that I'm not even thinking about upgrading anything. Which makes my wife happy. Since I don't have a lab to test it in I have to rely on what my ears tell me. I have never heard a better sounding receiver for less than $1000. I see alot of people saying it's light on power. The Kenwood I had before this was rated higher in power (yes into 8 ohms) and the Marantz blows it away. Same speakers. I highly recommend this receiver. In a medium sized room with good speakers and a good sub, it does it job, and does it well. For the Price it's hard to beat.

Strength:

Ease of use design are very simple, however at the end you are simple buying a 7 channel amp under the SR X200 series.

Weakness:

It is not in the realm of possiblity that the amp max output is 105W. I run efficient energy encores at 3/4 output with minimal sound or slight strain. I would only recommend this unit for surround movies and for that I am very happy. The main difference between SR6200 and 7200 is a remote upgrade and a A/B speaker switch. That is an expensive upgrade.

I would recommend this unit but not with much praise. Aux input has terrible hiss. Very easy to use as it should be, I wouldn't complain about the manual but would complain about the amp! This is not 105W but very good for small room.

Strength:

Circle surround

Weakness:

No DTS:Neo. No DTS ES discrete. Strained and congested sound in music mode and home theater. Noisy video switching. High noise levels produce hiss in dolby digital and even in music. Not enough power to produce loud levels without gritty distortion setting in.

Simply a poor value considering how noisy, congested and strained the sound is. Details in music simply can't be heard because of the noise and congestion. Definitely not a receiver for music. Dolby Digital playback can't create loud levels without harshness and strain being heard in the soundtrack. With low levels, hiss can be heard in the background. Also, using the receiver's video switching, there is a lot of noise in the picture that I never noticed with the better brands. In fact, I've seen better PQ and SQ with higher end standard Sony and Pioneer receivers. They didn't have the strain and hiss as this Marantz does.

For $800, it simply is a poor value, and even for $450!

After coming to my decision, I read the Sound and Vision review. They pretty much found the same thing with it's flaws, as I did. They found the power to be only 27 X 6, not 105 X 6!!! No wonder why it sounded strained!

IMO, stay away, there's better quality pieces out there!

Strength:

Extremely musical. Drives my maggies with ease

To my surprise, it sounds better in stereo than my old separates. Music is presented in layers, with ease and amazing separation. Very easy to discern the natural differences in body of violins against woodwinds and brass.

I thought it wouldn't drive my power hungry maggies but it does it so well i haven't experimented it with a separate power amplifier yet.

Prologic II can be fun for several CD's. No stupid reverbs.

This thing is quiet!!! What a difference from a Sony processor I had!!! No signal, no sound at all!

DAC's seem superior to DAC's of my Sony X777-ES CD player.
