marantz is as good as they say for classical music and jazz. it's the best i've heard of all the receivers for acoustic music and i've listened to yamaha, denon, nad, rotel, pioneer elite and harman kardon. it's superior to most for pop music with a smoothness and more sophisticated sound than the yamaha, denon pioneer elite types.i find it forward though and on movies its average. i found the rain sounds in movies didn't sound natural.
