Remote is complicated Getting the plastic to expose banna plugs is REALLY hard

I was worried using this receiver with PSB silver i's rated at 4 ohms. However, there has been no problems at all. The receiver does not even gets warm! I played Spy Games DVD the other night REAL loud with no problems. Ditto for music. The sound is wonderful. I can always add another 1 or 2 channels to this receiver later on, but I am really happy with 5.1. The music is warm and easy to listen do and HT is like being in a theater. I've been vvery pleased with the receiver over the past year and a half. Recently, I acquired a Denon DVD-1600 player. In order to play DVD audito disks, the analog outputs of the player must be used. When I connect into the 6 channel direct inputs of the receiver, I'm only able to hear the front L/R channels. I know I'm getting an output signal from the other channels of the player. I've configured the receiver to analog DVD input and the 6 channel input also to DVD, but still nothing except front L/R. Anyone have this problem or any suggestions

Strength:

Musical, built like 70''s American HiFi equipment(solid) and 5.1 IS WHAT MOST MOVIES COME IN!!!!

Weakness:

Will need to go to separates to improve the sound..

Fantastic investment for any dedicated two-channel listener. I have run this against the Rotel(lack of power, features), Pioneer(too bright) and Arcam(to soft, mushy). It blows the competion away. The 19 is built like a tank, reminds me of MacIntosh equipment and is large(19") so be careful to plan for space. The sound is laid-back with plenty of bass. It will spoil you, as I have found out while trying to build a two-channel system in my study. Most dedicated two channel amps are no better than the Marantz, even with my fussy B&W speakers. In HT mode this amp roars, rumbles and cracks gunfire from ''Saving Private Ryan'' then give a sweet rendtion of ''Amedeus''. The SR-19 has no shortcomings. Run your floor standing Front speakers with the subwoofer turned off and the SR-19''s bass hammers thru the room. Music for me is important even in HT mode, you get most emotion of a movie from the music...Marantz has smooth music delivery along with all the HT fireworks. Some may bemoan the lack of multi-channel music playback options and this in MHO is not a problem. My Pioneer had 12 different music playback modes and I never used any of them(big gimmick!).

Strength:

Fantastic Remote control, Sound quality

Weakness:

Haven't found one

When I first test drove the SR-19 with just a DVD player and Saving Private Ryan on DTS and Then THX I was ducking and covering. It sounded superb. My wife and I went home to think about it and figure out which CD's we wanted to hear on our next trip. When we went the second time with cd's and check book in hand we took note of the speaker set (KEF's)up and listening room we were located in. The Maranz performed wonderfully on all our tests except with the Braveheart sondtrack track 5 (heavy percussion) It was building to the climax and the front speakers went into auto proctect before the end of the climax. Rethinking our plan to buy we left the store. The whole time I was wondering why did the DVD's sound so good but the CD's fail my percussion test. Then it hit me that the store was set up more for Home Theater and not as focused on the sound of music. Sound I found another store and listed to it again with more of a home type setting on Mirage Speakers and it sounded better and passed the Track 5 test. I've gotten it home and it makes my old Bose 501's/ AM-5's sound really great. Admittedly this is my first experience doing the upgrade thing and it isn't the only piece of equipment I plan on upgrading. This is the center piece for the whole system. The reason I chose this over the SR-18 besides price is that with the SR-18 you are really buying THX Ultra which gives you 140 watts per channel and is better for a larger room for home theater. I listened to the Yamaha a-1 ,Denon 3300, Pioneer Elite (27 or 29) and for what I paid I have a system that performs at a higher level musically and theatrically than all of the others with a three year waranty. The SR-19 gives you a higher quality sound and cooler remote than anything I looked at in its price range.

Strength:

Has strong, and clear power. Looks bad ass, and plays as well as it looks.

Weakness:

Haven't found one yet.

I was looking to purchase this model, then went with the Yamaha rxv995. I wasn't sure about the Yamaha, and took it back. I couldn't even turn it up to the 12 O'clock posistion with out the receiver shutting off. I took it back and got the Marantz receiver that I wanted to begin with. I am pretty happy with the results that I am getting with the Marantz, if you like it loud, you better get speakers that match. For the extra money that I paid for this, I am getting a receiver that is no comparison to the rxv995. It's like comparing a top of the line sports car to a Yugo. NO COMPARISON.

Strength:

Clean Power, Stereo sound is Good, great suround sound and clean look.

Weakness:

The manual is a complete disaster! Complicated remote (but cool looking!)

I am downgrading from high end seperates costing 3-4 times the price of this unit and can honestly say that I am still happy with the sound of this little gem. To compare it to systems costing 4 times the price is not fair but is interesting. I can notice a slight lack of detail with the Marantz but it is small, the Bass is well defined and tight, mids are very clear and easy to listen to. This unit performs very near what seperates do. This unit plays with great authority. I cannot find anything to fault this unit for in audio, it seems to do everything well and for the price, you can't go wrong!

Strength:

Built quality, Power, Remote Control, Last and the most important SOUND QUALITY

Weakness:

None

During the process of selecting a A/V receiver I have come to the following conclusion that:
- SONY and YAMAHA provide many different sound fields.
- DENON has more features, such as Surround A/B Speaker Switching.
- Marantz 19 provides only 3 more sound fields (Hall, Matrix and Movie), inaddition to DD and DTS. However, the major different between Marantz and other brand names is the sound quality that Marantz produced. This is the product that generates the most analog sound in digital domain and I am truly amazed.

Highly Recommanded if you value music and movie the most.

Strength:

Clean sound, easy to use, great remote control

Weakness:

none

This is a nice piece of equipment all round. Great sound (especially in Direct Mode), tight bass, no hissing on vocals, plenty of power for the type of music I play (I use the system 80% audio, 20% video). My intent was to "supplement" the Macintosh 2-channel separates I've had for the last 8 years, but find the performance and sound from this receiver to be as good in almost all cases, and am using this receiver exclusively (bass response and "sweet" sound from the Macintosh are hard to replace, though, so will move this to another room). I am using B&W speakers all round (P4's in the front, with a center, and the smaller B&Ws in the back). Sound is incredible. Am saving up now for a Marantz DV 18 (I'm told around $1100). These two pieces, plus the speakers, will be all I'll need for quite awhile.

b&w's
603 s2 front and rears

asw 1500 subwoofer
dvd is the dv-18mk2

i highly recommend this unit to anybody who desires the best in sound in the form of a reciever that sound like much more expensive seperates..

Strength:

Sound, remote, simplicity,looks BAD

Weakness:

Manual is the pits and the remote's center of gravity

I paid full retail but the outfit I purchased it from sent two pros to my home and hooked up everything and tweeked it to perfection. After going over the manual, it was money well spent. Besides, at $1700, the unit is a steal. This was an upgrade from a Carver prologic separates system. I was able to sell the Carver CT 26v preamp but decided to use the pre-outs of the SR19. I have a Carver TFM25(225W per CH) for the fronts and a Carver TFM15(300W bridged)for the center. The SR19 drives the rears. Speakers are JBL L7 fronts, JBL center, KEF C95 rears and a Velodyne(the big one) sub.
All I can say is I am one happy man. This thing rock's with movies and CD stereo. I agree with everyone else. You don't need 5CH stereo. I am always checking to see if the center and rear speakers are working when in stereo.
The remote really did eliminate ALL my other remotes. Finally have room on the coffee table for the beers. I don't know if the EX model will cost much more but why bother. I really don't think the studios are going to invest in it and there aren't many wives out there that are going let hubby install more speakers all over the living room. I also don't think SACD or DVD audio is going to fly. I do hope Im wrong on that one. Anyway, if this unit is in your budget, it's the one!
