Strength:

It is very loud depending on the cd that you are playing

Weakness:

Don't turn it up over 10 otherwise it shuts down

Well I had a Onkyo Receiver with a built in DVD player,Don't know how many watts it had but while I playing a Record very loud and smelled it burning lol...Anyway Just got the VR6070 and put it very loud at 0 and it keeps shuting down so I called kenwood at they told me that i was playing it to loud and it breakers were shuting it downwith out screwing up the receiver.Anyway I am keeping it at 10 and trying many different cds and even at 10 it is very loud and I guess it depends alot on the Cds,some Cds are very loud and lots of the cds are very soft like the beatles studio tapes.....Johnny

Strength:

Price features and sound quality for less than $600.00

Weakness:

Instruction manual, remote control is way to big and no 192k-24bit DACS.

I have a Denon AVR-4802 and I was thinking to get a less expensive receiver for my family room with THX certification. Then I found the Kenwood VR-6070 and let me say this is one of the best mid-end receivers to date. With THX/DTS-ES/DD EX/PLII & SRSII you can't simply beat the price, features and sound quality for this cinema artifact. Sure is not my AVR-4802 but if you want a second receiver for a smaller room or to keep your friend out of your cinema treasure this is an exellent choice. Caesar C.

Strength:

Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS,DTS EX and Matrix 6.1 surround, CS Surround 2. Auto select. Many more to list.

Weakness:

HEAVY ! After intense DVD watching, tends to get really hot.

What a powerhouse for this price ! I did not think I can find a THX certified reciever for under a thousand dollars....my friend's is a Pioneer with THX gold, which was $1300. Anyway, I recently upgraded from my old Sony STR DE-345, and I could hear the immediate difference ! Although I am still using my older Sony speakers...which came in a package you could hear a world of difference. What I bought also to hear that difference was the Monster cable HTK-300 which is THX certified, comes with the subwoofer cable, and the 2 rear, 2 front, and center channel speakers. There are many sound options to choose from, and I love the "virtual surround" for standard tv watching on my big screen, and the THX/Dolby Digital...or DTS 5.1 surround for DVD watching. I really recommend this reciever, and I am so glad I can call myself a proud owner of a Kenwood THX certified reciever. h,by the way....if you decide to buy this, I recommend the cables I mentioned earlier...and pop in Attack of the clones on DVD, you will be amazed.

Strength:

- TONS of features for the price. - Ample power and good sound quality for my use

Weakness:

- Confusing setup and poor manual - Binding posts don't accept spade connectors - Mysterious memory of system reverts my changes - no on-screen setup

I bought this reciever about 2 months ago and overall I've been very pleased with it. Has all the features you could ever ask for at this price range. I am not aware of any other recievers at this price point with THX select certification. Tons of surround processing modes for regular stereo sources including Pro Logic II, SRS Circle Surround II, and DTS NEO (I like the Pro Logic II best with my setup). People have been complaining about the remote, but it seems fine to me. Setup is confusing though, particularily if you are using a passive sub-woofer (I hope not), or a back surround speaker (6th channel). Fortunately, I don't fall into either of those categories, but if I was, I would have trouble figuring it out from the poor manual, and vague acronym filled menus. Also, there is no setup available through a TV if that matters to you. Another beef: the memory of the system has a mind of it's own. I turned on one of the DSP modes for the CD/DVD input on the system, and if I turn it off, when I switch back to CD/DVD from another source, that DSP mode will be on again, so I have to turn it off every time I switch to CD/DVD which is very annoying. Another minor issue, the binding posts are not true "5 way" binding posts. You can't use spade connectors on these because of the little plastic collars around them. I like banana connectors anyway, but for some people that may be an issue. Sound quality and power-wise, I have no complaints whatsoever. If it doesn't sound good to you at first, chances are you can find some other mode or setting that will make it sound good, so experiment. I'm not a true audiophile and I doubt I would be able to tell the difference in sound quality between this and some other "lesser" recievers anyway. But I CAN tell the difference between this and my old RCA reciever, it goes much louder with less distortion than that old hunk of trash. In the end, it's the tons of features that sold me on this reciever, and it is those features that keeps me quite happy with it, despite a few of its ergonomic short-comings.

Strength:

-THX Certification -DD-EX/DTS-ES/PLII/CSII -Looks, RF Remote -Excellent Performance specs

Weakness:

Not enough audio inputs Confusing bass management options. I have large speakers all around except for the center. When you select center as small all three surrounds go as small too.

All around an excellent receiver. Boasts almost every conceivable sound format available. The THX certification was the major selling factor. Quite an elegant looking receiver which is a nice change from the over done Sovereign series. Sound quality is phenomenal. Pearl Harbor is DTS is amazing! Picked up a copy of the Nov. 2002 Sound & Vision Magazine and a very positive review of the 6070 was featured. Sound output is confirmed as 92 Watts x 6 Continuous. Will write up a more detailed review later...

Strength:

The only THX certified receiver for under 800$ also comes with a 32 bit(96 khz) d/a converter and al the DTS and Dolby Digital modes ive ever heard of (my pioneer only had 1)

Weakness:

Why is every one complaining aboot the remote? its not that bad, they say it cant control the CD player (thats why they come with remotes to)

I bought this receiver as an upgrade to my Pioneer Elite which I blew.Im using it with 250w floor standing Pro-Linear Speakers, I liked the THX select processing and all the Dolby Digital and DTS Modes along with 5 DSP's and Circle Suround 2, its got what I need and alot more!100w x 6 is a bit misleading(its about 80w x 6 RMS) but im using a seperate amp anyway. Overall its a great buy awsome value. And why is every one complaining about the remote? its not that bad, they say it cant control the CD player (thats why Cd players come with remotes to)(ps anyone want a blown pioneer elite for 50$ needs new amp)

Strength:

Looks!! (much better than the cheap looking kenwood stuff your used to seeing. Great 6.1 and thx output, Nice and Hefty, decent construction. Component Video Switching a big Plus!!

Weakness:

Crappy remote. Slightly low power output Confusing 6.1 setup (even kenwood rep was confused when i asked him)

Bought this to replace my aging Kenwood Vr-410 reciever. Very happy with the Versatility of this new reciever by Kenwood. At first setting up the 6.1 audio was a challenge due to the slightly misleading manual, depicting two rear surround channels, SBL, SBR in a speaker diagram ,but the reciever only has 1 output for a rear channel. After careful consideration, and consults with many people on the net and the dealer. A varity of setup methods were recommended. anything from Series and parallel hook ups of 2 rear surrounds, to using the pre-out, i choice the the pre-out method, Simply using an old pro-logic amp to drive the rear channels from the pre-out. People who try to hook two rear channels in parallel, or series may Blow ther reciever because of the the Impedance mismatch, going from 8 Ohms to 4 or 16. Kenwood better revise this manual or else. But when hooked up properly the results are very satisfying.. New movies such as Blade2, really show off the Discrete 6.1 and THX capabilities, couple this with lots of surround modes that can be used with Dolby Digital and DTS (not just the crappy usual DSP modes) like cinema, Music and tv modes, and you have one hell of a good receiver for the money. Only faults are the Remote, while functional , is lacking in advanced Macros, and just plain cheap construction, my old kenwood remote was much better. And the output power did not seem up to snuff. Although bragging 100 watt per channel, is suspect output per channel when all are in use, would probably top out at about 60-70 watt per channel. Other than that you cant find a reciever with more features, boasting a 6.1 discrete output for a better price. Way to go kenwood!!!

Strength:

THX certification (excellent imaging) 7 Channel Pre-outs. CSII RF Remote

Weakness:

No On-screen Display Remote cannot be programmed for CD player without learning. Spkr Levels go back to zero when input is switched.

Very advanced receiver for the price. I'm using it with JBL S38 bookshelf speakers. Compared to the Sony STR-DE1075 I had before, the sound is much cleaner for both music and movies. The kenwood does lack some warmth in regular stereo when listening to cds, but it's NEO6 decoding makes up for it. The 100x6 power rating holds true. At 100% volume, this receiver kicks ass and keeps the clean sound. DVD-Audio especially tests this unit's limits. My Sony's center channel amp used to struggle at higher volumes with any source, but the Kenwood makes it sound like a full-size bookshelf speaker. My only gripes are the poorly designed remote (aside from the joy-stick and RF), and the basic menus. On-screen assistance would have been nice as well.

Strength:

Prologic II, Dolby Digital ES, DTS EX, DTS Neo, Circle Surround II, 2 zones, 100 watt ch. x 6, speaker EQ, and many other features. loaded with them. Sound is pretty good for a receiver has 24/96 dac, etc. The remote is RF and IR so the receiver can be controlled from another room and is capable of controlling many sources from other mfg. 6ch. input also provided

Weakness:

The immage is bleached a little and is softened a little too. Nothing is perfect especially at $500 on a receiver that has as many features and performs this good.

This is very complete receiver for the money. The implementation of Circle Surround II is very good, much better than PL II or DTS Neo. Although it has no onscreen display, the scrolling display of the receiver is easy to use once you get a hang of it. So far this is the only receiver using the AnalogDevices with all these features, and the chip make this receiver very competitive. For the money its hard to beat. The amplifier stage is discrete using transistors and not integrated amplifier circuit as the previous generation and other prod. in its price category. A big bonus is the new look. In the recent past Kenwood receivers sported either a "modern" unwelcome look or plastic "cheap" look. for these new series this entry level line sports a classic, and more serious looking fascia which I'm told will be similar in the new Sovereign series.
