Weakness:

Remote, no 6.1 DTS or DD

Very nice receiver. The remote sucks big time. If you plan on using a universal IR remote then don't buy this receiver. I was a bit disappointed to find that I would not be able to use my Pronto without shelling out $300 for the Kenwood IR-9991 external remote receiver. Kenwood does say you can use some Xantech IR receivers in place of their own. They are a lot cheaper ($60) than the Kenwood accessory. The Xantech does not suppirt the 2 way communication with factory remote. It has been my experience that Kenwood makes good home audio products but always screw up the remote. Ever since the 2080 and above came out, they have turned out badly designed remotes. The only exception was the remote on their Stage 3 line.

Kenwood needs to understand that most people who buy a unit in this price range are not going to use the factory remote.

I am thinking of trading this one in for a Denon 3801 when they start shipping this month. It has more features but less power. The salesman who sold me the Kenwood said he would give me a good deal on the Denon because of the problems with the Kenwood remote.

Other than the remote, it is a great unit. It sounds much better than my older Kenwood receiver.
