Strength:

EVERYTHING

Weakness:

Reciever runs hot!!!!!
Give lots of air or blow the output stages like I did

This is a FANTASTIC receiver. All reviews I have read on it, were VERY favorable. And I whole heartedly agree.
This thing has power to spare, a really cool remote, and the silver finish is a welcome site among the sea of black for audio equipment.
The receiver's best feature IMO is the fact that when watching digital source DVD/LD the receiver will auto select the audio program, be it AC-3, DTS, Pro-logic. Now how easy can you get. The second room audio is a nice touch too, I personally use it as a pre-out for stereo subs.
All in all an excellent receiver and I would NOT hesitate to buy from Kenwood again.

Strength:

Very clean, musical sound, almost enough inputs & outputs, and pleasing, striking look in the system. I would buy another one at the price I paid for a B stock unit.

Weakness:

The remote is a little difficult to use, but after some work, I am pretty well used to it.

The only big stumbling block for this unit was when it died, cold. It would not play anything. After searching on the web, I found that the fuses (5 of them) are one of the weak points of this unit. I replaced them with new ones from Radio Shack, and have had NO problems since. I would like a couple more video inputs and outputs though.

Strength:

Great sound, nice features, midnight mode is nice, X-10 integration, very stylish, great power, many inputs...

Weakness:

Fuses blow.. mine just went after 2 years... Remote is horrible, no buttons on the receiver itself (setting modes, etc... just volume, input, etc..)

Overall, it's a great receiver, looks very nice, has great sound...
But, the auto-update remote codes don't work, the remote has a horrible range, very bulky interface, very slow....

Other than the remote/interface and the fuse problem, it's a great unit..

Strength:

Looks great and sounds even better, I also like the auto select and the controller

Weakness:

Hasn't been able to work for more then a few hours over the past 90 days.

This is a tough review to write. This is a receiver you want to really like. It does everything you could ask, inputs galore, sounds excelent, set-up very easy. However, its on it's third trip to the repair shop in less then 90 days.

I don't understand how Kenwood can make a peice of equipment that promises so much and just is not relable. I have equipment that is almost 20years old and has never given me problems. Even my newer stuff has been just problem free. Set it up and forget about it.

Oh well, when the receiver is working I love it. Sound is clean and strong. Plenty of power for my needs. ALthough I just can't reccomend this receiver to anyone. Save your money and buy almost anything else. Sorry.

I've had the 2090 for over a year and enjoy it alot. I purchased this unit fromshop4.com along with the Energy Take 5 HT speakers. I have not experienced
any of the problems commonly attributed to it even though the reciever is used
daily from 3:00 pm - 11:00pm (knock on wood), thus I am confident that this will be a failrly reliable unit.

When connected to a DVD player, the sounds reproduced from the receiver are
really impressive. I am sure that there are other setups that can produce
a better quality sound, but for the price I paid (~700), this is a great
value. The DSP modes are weak, but I mainly purchased this unit for its S-Video
switching, and AC3 and DTS decoding.

The remote takes getting used to and I believe that it has a more
aesthetic value than functional one. I wish that Kenwood would have
made the remote touch screen (which the new models will feature).

I give the 2090 an overall rating of 5 stars.

I purchased this receiver in June at a close-out price; I've had chance to use it now for 6 weeks and am pretty pleased. Performance in Dolby Digital and Pro Logic has been great, superior to my old Sony preamp/decoder(using digital or analog inputs).I've not tried DTS yet due to lack of any DTS sources. Setup options in Dolby include speaker distances and "small" or "normal" speaker size selections-no adjustable filter for the subwoofer output(this hasn't been a problem so far). Channel seperation and clarity is terrific--very little of the muddy center channel I hear so often in Pro-Logic. The amp section is plenty strong but needs to be pushed to really sing; it has more than enough to drivemy NHT's but I question the 100wpc.
As for music, the DTS modes are pretty lame and the stereo performance only fair; I did hook it up to some external amps and the results were better.
This has to be the most versatile receiver around in terms of integrating it into an existing system, it has plenty of digital inputs for audio and S-Video for switching video sources. It also features 2-zone capability (independant source selection, volume control for another room) which is really what sold it to me over similarly featured competitors (considered Sony,Pioneer,Onkyo, Marantz).
The remote is unusual and a bit cumbersome but can be programmed to control the basic functions of most HT components; I prefer it over a on-screen display lik Pioneer but wish it was more like the Marantz MKII with programmable buttons.
Cosmetics? Looks great on my equipment rack against all the black boxes.
Overall a great value--snap it up if you can still find one.
