I love this reciever.

But you all have me worried . Cause it's a refurbished model I bought from UBID.

ONly 90 days warranty.

And they are selling a lot of these.

Strength:

Great power, looks, pleanty of audio and video hookups,

Weakness:

the remote delays a few seconds

Great receiver. All this talk about how crappy the remote is a joke. Just take a little time with it and you'll figure it out!!! The DSP modes theatre, arena, jazz, stadium, and cathedral add to worth of the receiver.
This receiver does everything I want except have timer set on it so it can auto shutoff. I only paid $354 for mine and it well worth the investment.
I'm now selling this receiver, because I got the 3080 off ubid last night for the same price I paid for my 2080. Thats the only reason I'm selling my 2080
I just felt like updating to a newer model. If you want great sound and pretty looks this receiver is for you, but I wouldn't spend any more than $400 for it

Strength:

A lot of modes to chhose from :DTS, Dolby Digital Pro Logic, DSP, etc.
Reasonable price too.

Weakness:

The remote perhaps consumes too much power ( 4 AA batteries)
But it looks cool...with LCD display and great design !

So far, it has been a powerful receiver for me with lots of modes to listen to: Stereo, DTS, Dolby Digital Pro Logic, DSP, etc.

The price at Ubid.com is reasonable too. Thanks Kenwood !

Strength:

Terrific sound production, excellent Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. A real nice and unique looking silver finish.

Weakness:

Original remote was very tedious to use, no S-Video, center channel level is not equal to all other channels in DD and DTS.

I purchased this receiver from Onsale.com refurb in mid 1999. I fortunately have not had any problems with this receiver.

WEAKNESSES:
-----------
REMOTE: The remote sucked because it took so long to navigate between controls, and became tedious to use. Example: The phone rings, when grab the remote to turn down volume, there is a huge delay response that you can't pick up the phone in time and answering machine picks up. Solution: I bought the Kenwood TouchScreen remote, RC-R1008, much better and nicer looking. It has no delay, and is touchscreen for much faster navigation and is also programmable. The new remote is also capable of programming CD and track titles with an onscreen keyboard, with compatible CD changers.

RECEIVER: I believe the 5 extra soundfields are useless and degrade the sound quality. Also, the center channel does not output at the same level as all the other channels in Dolby Digital and DTS. I have to adjust the center level to 6+ dB to get the level loud enough for the movie dialog. Also, I like to listen to music in Pro Logic mode but without the center channel; there is no Phantom mode for Pro Logic for playback of music CDs. No S-Video.

STRENGHS:
---------
After a few sound level adjustments, the sound of the receiver is spectacular, the Sony STR-DE925 pales in comparison. DD & DTS decoding is excellent with clear and crisp sound, and Stereo or Pro Logic playback of music CDs is detailed. I think I got the best sound for the value at only $329 with 100 watts @ 6 ohms, +$200 for the TouchScreen remote. The strengths definately outweigh the weaknesses, and I will buy the new VR-4700 model of this receiver if the price is right. I typically listen to movies at max @ -28 dB, and music @ -35 dB, and never had any over heating problems or blown fuses and I've owned the receiver for over a year now.

SETUP:
------
Speakers: Front: Infinity RS-5
Rear: Infinity RS-3
Center: Pinnacle AC Widescreen
Sources: DVD Player: Magnavox DVD-850AT
CD Changer: Kenwood 2260M

OVERALL RATING: A very good buy.

Strength:

Great sound, DTS, DD

Weakness:

Remote

I paid $350 for this as a floor demo model from an electronics chain. I couldn't resist how cool it looked. So far, I really don't like the remote, it just takes too long to turn the volume up/down, etc. I do love the sound. I'm driving Infinity speakers and they sound really good. The DD is amazing. However, I find it annoying that I always have to fool with speaker levels, etc. This makes it too hard for my wife who has never tried to use it yet (she just turns on the TV). As for music, its pretty good, but I can't figure out how to balance the speakers properly (lately the subwoofer is turning off in stereo mode, but I think the speaker is defective).

Dolby Digital/DTS

Weakness:

no S-video inputs

I cannot comment on the reliability of this product since I’ve only had it for several weeks. I bought this receiver on UBID for $307 and am very happy with the value I got.
I brought it over to my cousin’s house and switched out his Onkyo receiver. Hooked it up to Energy Take 5 and 8” sub, the Dolby Digital sounded impressive. Haven’t had a chance to test it out the DTS yet.

I have read a lot of complaints about the remote to this unit. The remote only took several me minutes to figure out. While I do agree that it is not convenient to use as a universal remote (changing channels), it is very convenient for the receiver setup.

So far I am very please with the purchase….I hope it’s reliable.

Strength:

whistles and buzzers

Weakness:

cheap

well my yamaha reciever did not have the latest whistles and buzzers, so i got excited when i saw this amazing bargain on the on-line auction. paid 400 bucks and sold my yamaha on the auction for 110 dollars to help pay for it. the first reciver i got didnt work at all. (oh sh.t i thought) the second reciever i got worked after about 100 hours of learning how to use this space age looking worthless piece of sh.t remote. after tuneing my ears into this unit, i was not at all happy. this is not a yamaha reciever. its not even a cheap yamaha reciever. gone are the beautiful highs and the clarity. you can forget about the tuner. my general electric clock radio sounds better than this poor excuse for a tuner. but hook it up to a dvd movie, and wow. this reciever can do 5.1 and dts formats better than the movie theatre can. nice mellow sound and great ambient noise. it really sounds great. im worried though. i bought on the internet and dont have a store reciept. looking at these other reviews, and haveing experiance with the quality of this product already, im concerned im going to have a problem. you do get what you pay for though. cant touch this reciever for the price as far as what you get for features. but who cares if the unit doesnt work. get yourself a yamaha, denon or harmon kardon. pay the dollars. you will be happyier you didnt cheap out. but if your a gambler, and you dont care about listening to the radio, and dont care if this unit spends most of its time in the shop, then this unit is at least a preview of how wonderfull 5.1 and digital dts is for home theatre. im giveing this a 3 star rateing because i think for the money (350-400) max its worth it. especially if you can get it at less than 400 from someone who gaurantees they will fix it when it breaks down. i miss my cheap yamaha though. someone else is enjoying the quality at this very moment.
