Strength:

Great sound on all 5 channels, ease of use, JVC reliability.

Weakness:

N/A

I would agree with most of the other reviews except the one that said the center has an unbearalbe crackle. I've used this receiver on 2 speaker systems and I can say without a doubt the quality of the speakers plays a very big part. I would suppose the negative review came from someone with bookshelf or less quality speakers.
I've played this receiver on a set of Kenwood speakers and a very good set of Boston Acoustics with a Definitive center speaker and as an owner of Ohm 5's I can say the theatre experience is great!
If you can find one of these in good order it is worth it, even without the remote. The Logitech Harmony remotes make it relatively easy to access nearly every function.

Strength:

Full, rich sound for those who love lots of bass. Clear, crisp sounds from acoustic guitar, saxiphone, etc.

Weakness:

Receiver sounds better at higher volumes, comes alive at around 40 (out of 100) on volume level.

I purchased this receiver in July of 2002 and now that I've had a chance to use it for 9 months or so, I have a pretty good idea of its capabilities. Since my previous JVC receiver lasted about 21 years, I thought JVC earned my business on this purchase. The best tester I've used on this receiver is the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" DVD. Channel separation is perfect, without distortion on any speaker (they seemed to have resolved the problem with the center speaker). I recently purchaced a center speaker and I'm amazed at the clarity this receiver delivers. While recently watching a movie on digital cable, I was impressed to see the difference adding the center speaker made to the surround effect. The movie actually took on a 3 dimensional sound effect around the room. It pays to select a speaker with bi-wire hook-up (in my case, the Dahlquist QX60C - found through www. Audioshop.on.ca). Lower end speakers generally do not have this feature, which separates the high and low frequencies to virtually eliminate distortion. This receiver also offers bass boost to provide fuller, richer sound through all sources. I even managed to hook up my old Hitachi record player, which actually sounds better than CD (always has anyway). I could find no fault with this system and definitly give it a 5/5 for its price range.

Strength:

Ease of use, connectibility to old and new style components, plenty of room for additonal hookups.

Weakness:

Bass is a little soft, could use a bigger hike than 3db on the bass boost switch.

My tears of grief over the death of my 30-year old receiver were quickly turned to grins as I unpacked the new 7010. What I ran into trouble with in looking for a new unit was a receiver that combined the "old" with the "new." This unit was one of few in the lower price range that has a magnetic phono input as well as all the "new stuff" inputs. I bought the unit as a close-out in Dec. 2002, since the 2003 models were also now on the shelf. When hooked up (easy) and cranked up, the first thing that stuck me was the clarity of sound as well as the pronounced stereo separation. I need to fiddle a little bit more with the sound enhancement...the bass is a little weaker than I'm used to, but I think that's just a matter of tweaking or investing in a subwoofer. It performs flawlessly, and has some really nicely thought out advantages like the attenuator for the bass signal in case it distorts...little tweaks like that are usually only found in higher priced models. And the phono input works great with no appreciable drop in volume level when switched between various components. All in all, a solid value, and with a 2 yr. parts AND labor warranty, the choice for me was a no brainer.

Strength:

Ease of use

Weakness:

Product reliability, JVC customer support

While this was a good price, the reliability has been less than spectacular. The digital audio stopped working after 4 months. (Apparently this is a known problem) It has been a real pain getting it repaired because the local authorized repair shop won''t touch anything purchased at Sears. The folks at JVC customer support seem to be clueless when I contacted them about this issue.

Strength:

Room for lots of equipment. Decent remote. Price/Performance

Weakness:

I feel the tuner presets could be better.

This is for the JVC RX-6510V-BK which from my research is the Canadian counterpart to the 7010.

This A/V receiver was priced well and I found in it's price range has all the features I want to build on for a few years. That's not to say it's the best out there. You get what you pay for. In my estimation it is worth the price they ask. It's rated at 100W and I live in an apartment building and have yet to use it at high levels. I do find it starts to come alive around 35-40 (on a scale of 100.) Low level listening is quite pleasant too.

I run the system through JBL 800 and 500 speakers at the present time. I plan to add a JBL sub, and centre and move the 800's to the rear and use JBL N38's as the main's.

Once the system is complete I'll give an updated review.

I'm happy and for the price ($369.99 Canadian) I paid it is serving me well.

My advice, if anyone wants some is to take the time to research your purchase. I did and am happy for it. This website has provided me with lots of good information to aid with my purchases. Thanks!

Strength:

5.1 discrete input

I have a problem with my unit: I have some intermittent audio when usind the DVD Digital input. Using the 5.1 discerete input everything is fine so there should be a problem with the internal decoder. I think I already heard of this issue.
Apart this the JVC seems to be a nice unit expecially on the price/quality ratio.

Strength:

4 separate Power On/Off Buttons for extenal gear.

Weakness:

Measured 1.5 Volts of "Zero Crossing Distortion" on the Center, and the left and right Rear Surrounds Channels at a -10db at 1K Hertz input leve. At a 5 volt output that's a whopping 25% distortion. Swept through the whole audio spectrum 20-20K Hertz. Got the same results. Front left and right Main channels look real clean. Sound clean too. Probably because JVC has bias trimmers on those circuit board for adjustments. You can look right through the ventilation opening on the top to see this. On the other channels the bias trimmers are missing and no provisions(holes drilled and solder pads) have not been made for the adjustment trimmers or fixed resistors. Center channel at low SPL is unbearable to listen to. Cliff Dryesdale's (tennis commentator) voice that distorted will cut you like a knife. Buy the JVC 9010 or the Onkyo products or be prepared for some circuit design work to make this amp useable.

Save your money.
