Strength:

Power, Bass is better than the pioneer I had recently.

Weakness:

.8% THD a little high. ok a lot. Cheap speaker clips (not a big deal in my opinion most work the same.)

The volume control is not linear. Meaning it doesn't go up gradually. the higher the volume numbers go the bigger the difference between each number. So the high you go in numbers the louder is gets more quickly. It works great with my Sony MF-515's which I got this past x-mas. DTS and Dolby Digital sound great for the 130 dollars I paid. I plan on getting the RX8000 or 9000 when I get the money and moving this one to another room. Kinda just to hold me until I get the funds to buy a really nice one. A perfect match for my Pioneer DV-525. And I actually have the 6008 model. The exact same thing but this is the one they implement in their Rack systems. Hey it was 20 bucks cheaper hehe. I have found absolutely no differences at all. I'll give it 5 value and 4 overall because of the THD.

Strength:

Very well priced, DTS and Dolby Digital Decoders, Easy To Use

Weakness:

Small remote, too much THD(though for the price who can argue), Way Big, Not very attractive display

I am just enterting the Home Theater market and let me stress I am aiming for entry level. If you want soemthing to impress the folks then this is not for you.

However if you want something that can make you DVD watching a little more enjoyable than this receiver is a great way to start.

I had no problem hooking up the system and right away it turned the sound on my Toshiba 32" CX32 G-60 into something I had been longing for. While the TV's image rocks for a nonflat screen tube, the sound was far from even decent.

The speaker I used at first were from an OLD Aiwa Stereo I bought in 1992 but now I have Sony's Floor Speaker 3-Way 315's running the sounds until I can complete the home theater.

I can't really comment yet on how wll it works for home theater but in stereo these push quite a bit of clean sound. And the guy who mentioned the radio sucking, I ahd quite the opposite reaction. The tuner works great and with the antenna that it comes with I picked up clean FM signal.

overall I am very happy with this receiver sicne I now have Dolby Digital and DTS decoders and all for only $182 shipped! sure I understand this may be low end but hey its made my TV and DVD watching experience ALOT better and for a price I could afford.

Strength:

Dolby Digital Surround,DTS, # of inputs, decent power, nice design, definitely the price

Weakness:

no backlit remote, center channel slightly weak.

I bought this receiver from e-bay and I have no problems with it at all. I have connected to it a pair of Koda K-160's for mains, an old set of Pioneer's with 12" woofers for rear speakers and a wharfdale sapphire center.(although I am waiting for my newly purchased Pioneer Elite TZ-C700 center channel which should improve the center. I found the center a little weak as it was getting overpowered by my other speakers in surround and dts mode. I have a small subwoofer hooked up but there is no problem with bass from the receiver.

The different sound modes take some getting used to. It really depends on your listening style. The 3-D phonic sound sounds good when watching TV

I truly think this is a decent receiver. I have a Pioneer DV-434 DVD player and when I put in the movie my surround sound sounds very nice. I am connected by the digital optical input. Makes very nice sound! I do not hear any hissing. The people who rip on this product due to problems or they think it just sounds crappy must realize that everything you buy does not always work properly. That's why I don't buy Sony. Too many bad experiences.

As far as FM reception goes I use the dinky little wire that came with it and have no problems picking up stations.

My bottom line is this is a great DTS receiver. I would recommmend it to anyone on a budget who wants to be surprised with the quality of sound and ease of use.

But you know what they say about opinions!

Strength:

DTS, Inputs, Easy to read display with alot of info.

Weakness:

None for the price.

This is a great product for the price. This receive got alot of undeserving bad reviews. Many people complained about weak power to the rears. Keep in mind that the rears don't always have sound going to them. Anyone that knows what DD and DTS is all about will agree the output is fine. Also, if you force Prologic on sources that are not Dolby, it may have vey little rear output if any. If you are just starting a Home Theater and don't have alot of money, this is one of the best values for the price range. The inputs are great for the price(phono,tape,cd,dvd,tv,vcr...) with two assignable digital ins (1 optical). This system is great for an average size room. Get 5 half way descent matching speakers, a sub, and watch a DVD with DTS through the digital in and you'll hear what this reciever was meant to do, decode DTS, wich it does just fine. A lot of people that slammed this receiver are ethier new to HT's or they are expecting high-end for $200, which ain't gonna happen!
This is a great introduction to a surroud system for the price!

Strength:

Good value for the money, especially with all the features, easy to use remote, and

Weakness:

Power!!! for both stereo and surround. Design is pretty shabby as well.

I bought this from circuit city a few months ago, knowing very little about home theatre. I would have to say it was a step up from my bookshelf system, but since hearing other receivers, I'm convinced that the jvc rx-6000 is far from being capable of rocking the house. If you just want the dolby dts and don't care too much for how loud it gets, then this is a good receiver, but I have to turn it up nearly all the way to get even decently loud music in the stereo mode.
I plan on upgrading as soon as possible

Strength:

Pretty Loud, lots of features, nice remote. Easy to set up.

Weakness:

Very poor surround!

At first glance, this is a nice reciever. It looks nice, has a nice remote, lots of features. It's also very loud, and sounds great when used only in stereo mode. HOWEVER, it sounds terrible in any of the surround modes. I thought the reciever was defective, and took it back. When the 2nd unit sounded exactly the same, I thought it must be the speakers, so I bought all new surround speakers. It still sounded terrible. So I hooked up my main speakers (which sounded great in stereo) to the surround channels. They sounded terrible. The problem is definately in the reciever, and both of the two recievers that I used had the same problem.

The center, and rear channels have A LOT of distortion, regardless of the power level. Even at very low volume. In fact, it seems to be worse at low volume. It almost sounds like the speakers have got gravel in them or something. I'm very unhappy with the surround, but this reciever sounds great through the main Left/Right channels if used only for stereo listening.

I think JVC cut corners on the surround amplifiers. It sounds to me like transistor bias crossover distortion, which would mean a very cheaply made amp.

In a nut-shell, the surround amplifiers in this unit are not even close to acceptable, but the main stereo amplifiers sound quite acceptable.

I don't recomend this reciever on the grounds that the center, and rear channels sound horrible.

I've used the unit with satisfaction.
However, can anyone know why JVC made two separate front speaker channels? I don't see the reasoning behind this.
Also, does this mean they split the 100 watt per channel to 50 watt per channel to the front pairs?

Strength:

Easy to use and set up.

Weakness:

JVC product only remote. Needs more digital inputs.

This review is for the RX6008V. Very easy to use and hook up. I'm using a low end DVD player and the surround sound is excellent! If it's the satellite receiver, cable tv or the DVD player its great! No problems with speaker hiss or center/surround speakers at all. Cranks loud enough that the neighbors know what movie we're watching.

Strength:

price, power outage

Weakness:

mucho THD, one of JVC's lower products, below average remote design

this is a great bargain reciever but does not provide optimal sound quality or options. i am upgrading to a jvc rx-9000 (not 9010). the 9000 is jvc's flagship reviever. as for this model, the distortion in the center channel, and surrounds are noticeble at all volume levels. this may have been a design flaw, for the distortion is so awful in those channels. in stereo mode, it is awesome. plenty of power and no distortion in the front two channels. for entry level it is a great bargain, but unfortuanetly, it wont get u very far in today's audio world.
