Strength:

Feature set and inputs

Weakness:

Amplifier noise and hum at higher volumes

The amplifier hum & noise does not seem to be consistant from one unit to the next. If you get one with it then try another and you might get lucky. The features can't be beat for the money. ($500 street price)

WEll. I do like the receiver and have not noticed a hiss. I say that it is a good value for the 500 I paid, but not worth the $900 they say is the MSRP.

OK, maybe it wasn't the best thing to do giving this receiver a 1 star to lower the rating. I was upset at the time when I had it, that's all. I did not get a Yahama receiver, even though I praised it highly. I was referring to high-end products overall. I have a Denon receiver. The receiver does have alot of features, but for $600, you can get a better receiver. I sure did. My overall complaint was about the hiss from the receiver, something I no longer am experiencing with my Denon receiver. The 1028 does deliver incredible bass, I'll give it that much, but that's all I'll give it. Sound is only so-so. 2 stars for sound, 4 for features, 3 for build quality, 3 for overall value.

Yes, it's me again. Here's my take on the 'hiss' from the receiver. It IS noticable. If you're not an audio enthusiast, then you won't realize how much better a Yahama receiver sounds (the V795 is only $600 if you really look for a bargin, so the price is the same). Hey, didn't all of you buy a receiver for good sound? The hiss is a huge glitch. It may not sound that bad, but it's there. I have a Yahama now, and when my tv is off, I here no hiss at all from my speakers. Before, with the 1028, there was hiss. You might not know the difference, but I do. Then again, maybe you dont care as i do. The Yahama produces much better sound.
I'm giving this receiver a 1 because I want to bring down the average. It does not deserve to have a 4.5 star rating. But the receiver is a good 3 stars for it's value. It does have a load of features. For it's sound, the Yahama is twice as nice for the same price.

Ahh Tony... You ROCK DUDE.
First of all I came to this site to check the reviews of a few receivers I had been looking at. The end result is, after a little bit of shopping around I bought the JVC RX-1028VBK and a JVC XV-701BK DVD Player, for under $950 delivered. I have had them a few days.. and I'm not sure what this "hiss" you refer to is. I have NONE. I have quality speakers and cabling, using Bose Series 2 AM-10's, and a Cerwin-Vega HTS-15 sub. This receiver works great and sounds excellent. If you are not fond of this receiver TONY, then just go on down to your Yamaha group, and do a few 5 star ratings of your receiver. However posting BS things to lower the overall rating of this receiver is childish, because "you think so". I don't THINK so. There are such things as manufacturing flaws, and I'm not even going to try to claim JVC is anything great, but mine works just dandy and that should count for something.

End result. I'm very happy, and have completed my home theatre system audio system upgrade for under $2500 and that was my goal. The sounds blows me out of my seat and that's all that matters to me. Considering where things are made these days, I don't care what the brand.. I wouldn't hold my breath on reliability. I am taking nothing away from Yamaha, they have excellent products. If the JVC lasts me a couple of years, I'll be darn happy and ready for another upgrade.

Strength:

versatile, with relatively easy hook-up.

Weakness:

seems to heat up a bit. Manual needs rewriting .

Haven't had any problems with my reciever. I have it hooked up with Klipsch synergy Quints and a Toshiba 5109 dvd player, and the results for my modest family room are excellent. Plenty of power. For the price, I feel it is an excellent reciever.

Strength:

Great amount of imputs, sounds good, nice price.

Weakness:

It gets a little hot sometimes.

I picked this up from Crutchfield when I was in VA visiting friends, and it has been an overall great experience. If you never been to one of crutchfield’s stores they rock the service is sooo much better then anything I have found in Nyc. Anyway I really like this amp allot it has a healthy selection of inputs and outputs and the sound is nice and clean. I have never experienced the popping sound many speak of. The only issue I have with this amp is the heat it generated, the funny thing is that I just returned a JVC dvd player that was buggy and it to became quit warm when in use for extended amounts of time. Anyway if its cheep pick it up I have enjoyed it a great deal.

Got a new Toslink(Acoustic Research preformance series)solved the problem. For those of you the hear the poping once in a while try a diffrent toslink or cables that might be it.Now it sounds perfact on everything also try a toslink on your cd player's sound's alot better too.I don't regret buying this receiver one bit even if I did pay $550.00 for it when it 1st came out.If your looking for a receiver then here it is it don't cost much and sounds outstanding on everything cd's to movies.JUST DON'T BUY IT AT UBID UNLESS YOU WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE.
