Strength:

Sound quality, surround processing, remote, looks

Weakness:

None

This receiver is excellent. As others have said all recievers have their share of problems. This receiver should not be ruled out because of some of the reported problems or misinformed information regarding the DSPs. This receiver creates seperates sound quality and in reality cannot be beat for the money. Go listen for yourself.

Strength:

Excellent all around reciever.

Weakness:

Terrible manual

Had the unit for one week and the Left and Right speaker imput just stopped working. The unit quit working in less than 10 days. I am sending it back .I called HK and they said they have had only (7) units returned. I asked them if they ever read the consumer comments on line and thay said ,they didn't. I suggested that they do if they wanted to have any customers.

Strength:

Overall an outstanding reciever excellent, amp section very usable DSP fields.

Weakness:

No THX

I have no problems with this reciever, and when I compare it with much more expensive units such as the denon avr 4800 the amp section does a good job of holding it's own The avr 7000 is an overall great unit, considering how much you can purchase it for I Feel it's also a great value.

Strength:

Great well rounded reciever. Very flexible. Easy to set up and use.

Weakness:

No on screen-menu with comp. outputs.

I've been an audio freak for many years and put my time in an audio store, so I've had exposure to many recievers. This HK7000 is a very nice reciever.

The sound quality is great, especialy the with HDCD's. Yes the reciever is heavy, over 50 lbs. That's the price you pay for a good amp section. I can say this reciever sounds better than the Carver separates it replaced, and that's no easy feat. In HK's defense, anyone unsatisfied with the sound needs to invest in a good line conditioner and cables. It made a huge difference in my case.

Most important, my wife can operate it so she stopped nagging me when she wants to listen to music or watch a DVD.

I got a great price through an employee purchase, but I had to wait 6 &@%! months to get it. Get your release dates right HK!!! I have had the HK for 5 months with no quality problems, but have known HK to make a few mistakes in the past... Seems like a great deal!

Strength:

It's got it where it counts, very handsome looking and sounds wonderful.

Weakness:

Reliability maybe? I guess people are still having a higher amount of problems with H/K than competition. Component video won't do HDTV.

Ok I don't own this piece but I do sell it and have worked with it for several months.
This is a wonderful receiver sound wise and does compete with more expensive models. I'd describe the sound as smooth, warm, good soundstage, and a very pleasant liquid sound. At 1500 or less it's a bargin just buy it somewhere where you could return it without a hassel if you encounter problems.

It does have good AKM dacs and as far as the 24 bit crystal dsp I've seen people complaining about they do an OK job. Yahama's 44bit is probably more hype than anything, there lots of hype with receivers, how many receivers do you know that can push their rated power all five channels at 20-20Khz? Go take a look at dedicated Preamp processors in more expensive and better sounding seperates systems, guess what? 24bit DSP's!! So the HK has a nice power supply and good dacs and HDCD to boot.

I think as far as receivers go its a good bet as long as you don't have any problems with it. I recommend it highly

Strength:

Style, Inputs, Outputs, The fact that itwont just shut down after 30 minutes of use like some others (denon)

Weakness:

Not Very Loud.

Seems like this amp need to be turned all the way up,

That was my very first impression as I hooked it up to my Polk audio speakers, I will try with some Eclipche which i have order, those are larger floor standing, Hopfully more eff. and will sound louder at lower volume levels

Still too many people complaining about the gremlins and HK not offering solutions

To Mark and Russ H.,

One of you insinuates that I perhaps didn't have the money to purchase this receiver, and the other claims that he can discern the slightest bit of distortion in audio equipment. GET OVER YOURSELVES!!! Please see my review dated July 17.

So Mark, my ears are "worthless"? If so, how could I possibly hear the pop coming out of my speakers that was probably 75dB-80dB at normal-don't-wake-up-the-neighbors levels? I don't feel the need to blow out $3000 worth of speakers when this pop occurs. Also, if your ear is so highly trained, why aren't you writing for an audio magazine or working for any number of audio manufacturers?

And Russ, if you read my review, you would plainly see that I had to exchange this "flagship" receiver three times only to get the same problems in a new box. I didn't "pretend" buy one of these and then "pretend" exchange it.

I learned something after I exchanged this thing, too. The +/- 75 amps of High Current Capability that this receiver has is a misleading spec. This receiver can only sustain that kind of peak current for 900 milliseconds, that's 0.90, only HK doesn't mention that.

Lastly, why should I pay good money for this receiver and have problems that receivers that cost half as much don't have (Denon AVR3300, Sony STR-DB930, etc.)? Don't tell the people that have rated it poorly, especially people who know what they're talking about when they've had this thing in their living room long enough to get tired of it, that they don't know what they're talking about and that their ears are worthless. And don't assume that none of us are able to afford such equipment either. I could have bought the new Yamaha for $4000, but I couldn't justify the cost difference. Don't insult me by implying that I'm a derelict without a job and I couldn't get one these without stealing it.

Maybe HK has addressed these problems. At least I would hope so. But my experience has really, for the time being, turned me off of HK products.

This "review" will probably be removed from this page, but I don't care. I made my point (and I think I speak for everyone else you are putting down) even though I used the wrong forum for it.

I'll let my ears be the judge--don't tell us what we should or shouldn't like.
