Strength:

Sound quality, power, price, quick and easy set up

Weakness:

No digital input

Excellent receiver for the money, paid $189.00 at Harman Kardon online. Great sound quality. It doesn't have a digital input, but if you don't care about the digital sound of the DVD it doesn't matter. Of course you can still run a DVD player through it. I took the AVR100 back because I decided to wait and see how the reliability of the new line turns out. Recommend highly!!!!!!!

Strength:

Sound reproduction

Weakness:

Only runs one set of speakers.

When looking to replace an old SONY reciever I went to CC and listened to all their 'low end' stuff side by side. I was amazed to find how much difference there was in sound production and accuracy and depth from one receiver to the next. I though by now they would all be pretty much the same and extra dollars just bought bells and whistles. The HK stood out from the rest - SONY, JVC, Technics, Panasonic etc - the only one close was an ONKYO - both are high current models so I suspect much of the difference was attributed to that function. After several months hooked up to some decent Wharfedale speakers I couldn't be happier, particularly for the price of less than 150 on sale. If you are looking for a reciever - start and end with the high current models.

Strength:

Clear great sound and power, sleek look, universal remote, upgradability (DD ready)

Weakness:

Sliding door on remote

My baby (AVR 5) is hooked up to a pair of 175 watt JBLs and a QUEST subwoofer. I've heard a lot about this HK product but actually owning one makes a lot of difference. I listen to all sorts of music from jazz to R & B etc. and I demand a lot in terms of the sound quality. With the AVR 5 I have an almost one-time setting for the bass and treble when switching between different types of music. I don't have to adjust the sound settings except the volume. The bass is great and the treble clear. You can hear almost all the individual pieces of instrument. Listen to Gloria Estefans MI TIERRA CD and you'd notice the difference a great receiver can make to your sound!! So far I've had no regrets using this reciever. Indeed, if you're looking for a great receiver at an affordable price go for the AVR 5.
