I purchaced the avr-95 in late June and was told the avr-95 and the avr-2700 was the same unit by the salesperson. I noticed on the spec sheet that the 95 has95 watts per channel vs 80 watts per channel on the 2700. Is this correct.
As far as perfomance, this unit is precise, clear, powerful and very easy to use. This is a smart buy for anyone.

An excellent AVR, is exactly the same as the 2700 except rated at 1khz for the mass market consumer. Excellent decoding of Pro-logic and has 1 very useful DSP: 5-channel stereo (to break-in rear speakers faster, though I prefer 2). Can bi-wire speakers (seems the only way to get bass from the Mission 775s), great 2 channel reproduction, assignable digital input, and learning remote. The only problem I have with this unit helping a friend set this up is that the rear speakers can not be set up to be farther away than the mains (might hurt those with wierd room configurations) and having to use the TV to configure the main units functions but other than that no problem. With 5.1 inputs and binding posts this thing is definately built for the future and can be bought at Sears because they are discontinuing it (maybe for one with DTS built in or switchable rears as in the 3300?) a great budget AVR.

Strength:

very easy to set up!awesome remote.bi wiring option.can turn into pre amp.clean look ,not to gaudy.5 channel stereo,a plus

Weakness:

amplifier section gets extremely hot, needs at the least 10cm of free space above top and sides.which may disallow pre existing stereo racks.

who the frigg cares about the 2700,and its wattage differences.watts shmatz.the average hair dryer uses 1400 watts.so tell me in what way 10 or 15 watts makes a difference anyway.im telling you it doesnt.I have a class A,power amp that only uses 20 watts and its bass shakes the floor of my apartment.what really makes the difference in laymans terms is amps(amperage) among other things, whereas your sony strde935's,jvc888's,pioneer 608's,use on average about 10 amps, your denon 95's and 2700's(for you anal retentives)and even your harmon kardon avr 40's use on average 30 to 35 amps.not to sound like a know it all,I myself have lots to learn about the stereo world.maybe one day Ill have the pompus pleasure of calling myself an Audiophile.audioP H I L E.What am I, some sort of an Audio molester?I have the pleasure of working as a salesman in a retail store called abc warehouse.one of many perks is that I get to talk face to face with the different company reps, and go to product meetings so my info comes from a fairly reliable source.one of the all time perks is discontinued stuff.the company hooks us up.I bought my denon 95 along with its brother cd player, the dcm 60 for a total of $125.00 eat your preverted audiophile hearts out!!!

I recently purchased the AVR 95 at Good Guys on Easter Sunday. It was just by chance because I was still considering other a/v receivers with AC3 and DTS. I was at Good Guys just browsing when I saw this unit in the open box section and asked the clerk how much they wanted for it and to my disbelief he said 435.00 dollars and I said really so I bought it with two year extended warrenty. I would have to say this is the best receiver for the buck with sound to back it so this model is well worth money and then some. My system composes of Polk monitors for mains and Lineum center and Atlantic bipole surrounds with a Audiosoure Sub 15 from Costco for 199.00 believe it? I think sounds tremendous.

Strength:

Sound quality well build, the amp is outstanding among current receivers...

Weakness:

Remote is lack of functionality, NO DTS

The receiver is great in general. I picked it brand new in an local store for a fair price($500) two years ago. Even the product is discontinued, There is not many receivers outthere can outplay the Denon AVR95 in sound quality. The current AVR2800 has the same amp. Denon is always considered to be great receiver-builder. The receiver has the bi-wirable in all three front chanels... this is what many same price range receivers don't have

I guess I got lucky. I was browsing through a local Sears lookng for any bargains from returns, discontinued and voila! A returned AVR-95 (discounted from $699 to $499). Since I wasn't familiar with this unit ( I was seriously looking at the new D608 from Pioneer the V795 from Yamaha, and the 656 from Onkyo. But I WAS familiar with Denon's reputation. The unit has not disappointed. This unit is ESSENTIALLLY the AVR-2700 (go there for more reviews in Audio Review- and look under 'specialty products' at the Denon site for specs for the AVR-95.
Strong Points:
1- NO pops, hiss or clicks when changing volume when viewing the TV
2- Able to direct the digital inputs to any device you need
3- Remote is actually really good (shock!!) The learning part is helpful when you can't get the pre-programmed setting to marry up with your device. There is also two macro buttons that allow you to record up to ten button clicks (regardless of which device (or devices) you are recording. I.E. you can program the TV to go on, then switch over to the VCR , turn it on, then the
DBS, etc all in 1 macro step. Vey cool.
4- 5 channel stereo. Basically the surrounds and L/F speakers are driven at the same volume (the center becomes mono).
5- Automatically detects a digital bitstream when playing DVD. You can toggle manually to analog or digital with a single button
6- CD Music seems fine. Haven't played too much though. Others love it.
7- 6 channel future inputs (I dropped the DTS in exchange for a solid amp) I recommend the same. The 6 cahnnel inputs should be fine for any future upgrade.

Weak Points:
not many- or glaring but:
1-memory storage in the learning remote could be larger. I'd love to be able to
program all my remotes functions into the denon's.
2-Panel Programming. I'd like to be able to change settings on the display panel
versus 'ON screen' . At times when you are trying to compare things you have to stop, open up a screen, fiddle, then go back. Having PIP helps reduce this though.

My system :
Panasonic 32" superflat dual tuner PIP
Center Channel II (cambridge sound works)
Pioneer DV-414
Panasonic VHS
Fair amount of monster cable (middle to low line)
(ahem .. KLH L/R, surrounds) hey! it's a slow process getting up to speed!
At this point I guess I got to give it 5 stars based on the value/performance.

I just yesterday purchased this unit at Sears as a demo for $319! It came without a manual.I would be forever indebted to anyone who would be so kind as to FAX me a copy of the owners manual. We Audio nuts need stick together!
My FAX # 281-920-9881. No cover sheet needed.
Thanks!
John
