    Strength:

    Sound, connectivity, versatility, upgrade potential.

    Weakness:

Not for a beginner or the "audio challenged" One must be willing to spend some time reading the manual to learn to how to use this awesome unit.

A 5 star receiver. There are only 2 things I can add to what's already been said about the unit. Firstly, the manual could have better written, but to get the most out of this unit, one should be willing to invest some time reading it and re-reading it. If you're not willing to do this, save your money and get yourself a boombox. Secondly, with regards to Mark who feels cheated, well, you gambled and lost. Like the other guy said, since you bought it from an unauthorized dealer, they are the ones to be angry at, not Denon. Like the man once said, "There's no such thing as a free lunch."

    Strength:

This product is so solid it's astounding.

    Weakness:

doesn't show on-screen display from component video (needs to be composite or S-video)

This receiver is second to none in it's class. It blows away anything I've demo'd by a long shot. The sound quality on 2 channel stereo is thrilling, and it just gets better on DTS-ES for movies. I have owned for about 1 month, and I am still delighted with my purchase. Given the upgrade in every way versus 3802, I'm glad I ponied up the extra cash for the much improved unit. (however, I don't see the value in the 5800 vs. this unit).
All in all, a fantastic unit.

    Strength:

    Control Interface
    Decent Construction

    Weakness:

    Atkiss can be annoying

The sound is comparable to a $200.00 Technics? Granted this is not a seperate amplifier but to hold it in the same breath as as some schwag reciever with a pathetic power supply. And that Marantz did not put out more than 52W all channels driven (Sound and Vision, 11-01) I mean opinions are all well and good but at least have a thread of knowledge before posting.
The sound is as good as can be expected though I do wonder if the 4800 had a bit more current given it is 5 versus 7 channels of amplification with roughly the same power supply. All in all not bad and is a swell Pre-Processor. And to those who buy online, realize that the amount saved will probably more than balance out the cost of an unlikely repair. All the same it is stated that w/o buying from an authorized dealer will void said warranty.

    Strength:

Boasts the most advanced processor boards in the world to date. Also holds the title for the only receiver in the world to support every audio/video format out there. Built on the AVR-5700 chassis with a toroidal power transformer modelled after the AVR-5800. $500 ATKIS remote included. Dual Analog Devices SHARC-21065L floating point DSP processors rated at a combined 88MHz 120MIPS give the sharpest, fastest, most accurate, and highest resolution digital processing out there. Analog Devices 24-bit/96KHz DACs on all input/outputs. Variable high/low-pass crossovers selectable from 40-120Hz with a 24dB slope per octave. Component video switching with 50MHz bandwidth for unconstrained 1080i/720p pass-through. RS-232c port for AMX/Crestron controllers. THX post processing on DD/DTS/DTS-ES/DPL2-C/DPL2-M/NEO:6-C/NEO:6-M/THX-EX. 7 isolated power supplies. Alpha AL:24 processing. Pure Direct mode shuts off all switch boards, dot-matrix display, and processor boards and the 4802 acts as an integrated SS amplifier. IR remote I/O plugs. Active subwoofer peak-level limiter prevents over-excursion and damage to subwoofer.

    Weakness:

RF docking station not included. An extra $80 if you want your remote to be RF.

    Second only to the AVR-5800.

    Strength:

Surround sound processing is as good as separates. It is absolutely stunning. Excellent design and all the latest features.

    Weakness:

    None

Have used the Denon 3801 which in and of itself is an excellent surround sound receiver. I have also used separates such as the Sony 9000es and I can honestly say that the 4802 is excellent in all areas of surround sound processing. I have used a pre-amps out to run 5 of the channels and have used three of the amps on the 4802 to power the rest of the channels. The flexibility of this receiver is amazing and the surround sound is second to none. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
