    Strength:

Great features, 110 watts X 7 channels of clean stable power.

    Weakness:

    None

Just got my new Klipsch KLF-20 speakers hooked up to the AVR-3802. Wow, a wonderful match for listening to music. The Denon AVR-3802 handles the low impedence of the low frequencies without distortion because of its newly designed stable power supply, good tight bass. I love my Denon AVR-3802 for classical, rock, jazz, everything played sounds so much better than on my Harman/Kardon AVR-85.

For those who dislike the presence of the active sub-woofer in DIRECT mode; there is the possibility to switch it OFF :
(I received this information from someone who read my remark that I disliked it)

When in DIRECT mode, press the Channel Volume button on the front of the receiver, press untill you find the volume setting for the sub-woofer and turn the knob untill it's in the OFF position.

The receiver will "remember" this for the DIRECT mode.

This is also something I really like about the receiver : You can almost change/control every setting...

    Strength:

Looks, like it would last for ever, very detailed sound, superb surround sound, has all surround modes you can imagine

    Weakness:

    stereo sound, controling system,

First, I must tell, that I was looking for a good receiver for 6 months or so and just before the purchase, I setled down on Denon avr-3802 because of very good reviews and so on. I didn't hear it playing by then.

Before I bought it I tested 3802 and Onkyo tx-ds 797 at my home with my speakers (Mission 782 mains, Mission 78c center, Mission 77ds surround, cables - Van den Hul). I was very pleased with surround sound of Denon, but when I compared the stereo (direct) mode with Onkyo, there was no comparison. Onkyo's sound was so much cleaner and a litle more detailed, with better midrange, treble and wider stage. It is not so warm sounding like Denon. So at the end I bought the Onkyo (Denon was cheaper for around 150$), because stereo is for me more important as surround sound, where I belive, Denon is a bit better than Onkyo.

I'm writing this review despite I dind't buy it, because I think, that the Denon is a great receiver and it would be my first choise if i liked warm sound. Anyway, to be objective, i must give it 4 star rating (not 5 star because I personally like Onkyo more). Before you buy a receiver, go and listen also to Harman Kardon or Onkyo. You should not forget: your ears should deside, not a review. The sound quality maters, nothing else.

And one more thing: anybody, that gives this receiver or Onkyo 797 less than 3 star rating should go to the doctor to see what is wrong with him(her).

    Strength:

    Excellent Value For Money.

    Weakness:

    None Found Yet

Excellent package and value for money. Has everything you could want in a good quality home setup. When matched with quality interconnects it trully performs both in AV and music formats.
I have found none of the faults / bugs as mentioned in other posts.
I wonder from reading some of the other posts if some people have just had bad luck and got a Friday afternoon built product or is it simply that some people can't set their system up corectly ! Who knows?

I'm more than happy and would fully recommend the 3802 to anybody.

    Strength:

    Sound, flexibility.

    Weakness:

no inputs on front panel, only two macros on remote.

After much researching, listening, and contemplating, I decided on the Denon AVR-3802. After about two hours of setup time (mostly due to the limited space I had to work in). I fired her up and was absolutely blown away. I have some experience with quality sound, having worked in recording studios, and I could not be more pleased with the performance. I was thrilled with the 7 channel sound on movies. But this lovely piece of equipment really shined when I put in a Steely Dan DVD I picked ip on a whim. Wow! The sound through my Klipsch speakers was nothing short of amazing. The clarity and depth was truly breathtaking. The two reviews previous to mine must not be listenening to the same thing. I would suggest that they check their connections.

FYI, paid 781 total at Crazy Eddie. Ordered it 1/15 had it 1/17 regular mail! Highly recommended.

    Strength:

Lots of power for multiple applications, CLEAN sound.

    Weakness:

    FM Tuner and Manual

Just converted from Luxman Receiever to Denon for HT.
Music is primary requirement, and after using the Lux for over 10 years... wanted to not sacrifice on quality.

I am not disappointed ! The sound is crisp, clean, and warm. The stereo is outstanding. After installing SACD player (five speakers) I am floored by the quality of this new media. (Blood Sweat and Tears First Album, had quality horns coming from all directions) For movies... it is terrific!

Had much trouble on setup. The remote is confusing, in that you need to push the receiver button 3x to get to AMP settings. Lots of connector settings/options is big plus.

After looking at Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, Marantz...For the money, this was the best buy. Invest and Enjoy

Overall I agree on most of the reviews posted here, it's basically a good sounding receiver. I enjoy it listening to music. For DVD movies it brings out its best - it's like watching in a theater while in the comfort of your home.

    My system:
    Denon 3802
    AR5 - front
    AR4c - center
    AR17 - sorround (x4)

    Strength:

Mammoth receiver with a hefty build. Fairly easy to setup once you understand A/V lingo and compatability issues of other components. Power and flexibility unbelievable, Plus it looks good.

    Weakness:

    None yet.

I'm only using a Denon DVM-3700 with this receiver and it's about all I can handle, meaning it gives all I want. I'm using Polk RT25, f/x300i and PSW450. The sound is incredible. (Bose can't touch it!)
A CAVEAT on purchasing. Stay away from this vendor and others like them. I got screwed out of my warranty because this vendor is NOT, repeat NOT an authorized dealer. They told me my unit had full warranty, and I believed them till I called Denon. This vendor will say anything to get your order and then you have to threaten them to get them to ship. They sell high quality goods that have been monkeyed with in one way or another and thus they razor off the serial number and/or change it so it cannot be traced to the source. You cannot get a valid warranty from an unauthorized Denon dealer! I'm one of the fortunate ones I'm told who got a unit that works.
    good luck.

    Strength:

    Power, 7 amps, inputs, sound

    Weakness:

    Manual needs work

I looked at the Denon 3801 so long that it evolved into the 3802. This receiver has given me the sound and capabilities that I have dreamed of for several years. I love it, 100^ satisfied. With tax and 4 year extended mfg warranty, the cost was less than $1000, an excellent value.

On screen set-up is a nice feature too.

I printed a copy of the manual on-line which I kept in the bathroom and read many times...I finally know how to get out all that this unit can give.

    Strength:

    Sound, Build Quality, Features

    Weakness:

    Remote Control, Manual

    Setup:

I am an engineer by trade so I read the manual to perform the setup. That was my first mistake. To setup your equipment simply look at the pictures do not read. The manual clearly was not meant for an American audience. The only physical problem I had setting up was that I could not fit the speaker wire from my bi-wired speakers into the speaker bindings provided. So I ran out to Tweeter (Hi-Fi store) and picked up some banana plugs to make things easier. The on screen setup is nice, so use it; it will save you a lot time guessing what is going on.

    Performance:

The 3802 has plenty of clean power to drive most any speaker setup. My Daulquist DQ-12's sound great. In fact the thing that the 3802 does best is produce good clean clear sound. The 7.1-stero sound feature is one of the best provided you went out brought a descent quality home theater speaker setup.

    Remote:

Besides the fact that the remote is not user friendly, it does not allow me to control my other components that well. It allows me to turn on my RCA DBS and Sony CD player but when I go to turn them off it shuts off the power to the Denon 3802 AVR. There is a learning cure with the remote but I always liked puzzles.

    Purchase:

I purchased this from the yahoo store on the Internet for 685 dollars ($715 delivered). It was delivered in 4 days a week before Christmas without a scratch and everything working as advertised. I was scared by now I am one satisfied customer.

    Final Thoughts:

The Denon 3802 has a very warm sound, which I like. It is very versatile and built well.
