Strength:

Clarity, sound distribution - you can increase/decrease each of the 5 channels by itself. Amazing options.

Weakness:

None for this price.

For home theater, you can't go wrong at this price. The 5 channels are produced with such clarity that I almost kept my old speakers.

Strength:

Refined sound, smooth and defined without being agressive, slightly warm, natural, fine depht and soundstage, clean and musical within a very nice looking appearance. A good bass extension without overwehlmingness. Well balanced betweem home theater and stereo sound. The use of direct mode seems to give much better results in stereo sound.

Weakness:

It seems to have a lack of punch and power because the volume has to be set quite high for satisfaying my taste A litlle bit or sometimes not enough dynamical when used in stereo mode.

I am very satisfied with this receiver. It gives a definitive answer without being oblige to disburse a lot of money for looking like a connoisseur at the eyes of my peers (faked audiophiles) who have spent a lot of dollars for hearing as they said a voluptuous and sublime sound in home theater or in stereo. An important fact to take into account is not what you really expense but ultimately what you hear. My systeme is composed of the following elements: Denon avr-1803 Energy connoisseur c4 as front and rear speakers Paradigm cc-370 as center speaker Panasonic dvd rv32 Sennheiser 250 linear headphones Toshiba M52 vcr JVC D200 Tv

Strength:

great sound, great surround processing. runs very cool.

Weakness:

80 watts/channel is good but 90 would have been better.

im running paradigm mini monitors, cc-370 center and atom rears and this receiver is excellent! the pro-logic two decoding is fantastic for getting good multi channel sound out of stereo sources. the sound is warm and flawless. i upgraded from a pioneer vsx710s and the difference was night and day. at 80 watts it puts out a decent amount of power, but when your trying out a new sacd or some such and you wanna really pump it, it barely has enough, but it makes it(usually at like -5). 90 watts would have given that comfort zone. i would have liked greater control of the cut off frequency. i dont like setting the speakers to large and then getting a distorted bass image using main+. but at 80hz(lowest cut-off freq.) your gypping your speakers out of sound. i think something like 65 would have been clutch. there arent alot dsp's, and theyre not all that interesting, but who really cares. il stress again though sound quality coming out of this reciever is phenomenal.

Strength:

Music sounds great as do DVD's

Weakness:

None so far.

Had to replace my Onkyo 575x. This did the trick. Very solid receiver. Feature I like 5/6 channel stereo. Being able to control all channels separately from the remote. Bass/Treble controls. Adjustable subwoofer frequency 80 or 100Hz. It sounds really clean and warm. I tried a Sony STR-DE885 before buying this one. The Sony says 100 Watts per channel RMS. May be true but it has way too much distortion. The Denon on the other hand sounds distortion free and can play much louder than the Sony. My system is Denon 1803, and all Klipsch speakers which seems to be a very good match. One last note, I got it from Crutchfield and they have great customer service.

Strength:

- price - sounds rich and pure - looks very good

Weakness:

- would like a fully programmable remote and preferably one that lights up, but the remote has been improved over the previous generation even if it does looks like somthing from NASA.

Hard to imagine a better combination of value and performance on the market. When playing music the sound is so rich and warm, and movies are also very good. Running the system with Mirage 590i's at the front and Mirage OM-R2's at the surround and rear channels. Also a Mirage sub to complete the setup. I'm sure the Mirage's help as they are awesome speakers, but the Denon makes them fill the room with a beautiful sound field. Room size 35 X 20.

Strength:

Very easy to use, sound is wonderful. Back of unit is laid out very well, not cluttered. Compatible with latest and greatest formats other than THX.

Weakness:

No on screen configuration

WOW, this is a great little receiver. This is my first AV receiver and so far it has been worth every penny. I am running this with an Infocus X1 projector, 5 Mirage omnisats and will be installing a SVS PCI 25-31 soon later this month.

Strength:

DTS-ES 6.1, Dolby Digital-EX, PLII, DTS Neo, 5/6 CH simulation, component switching, Audio inputs can be assigned to different video inputs, Multizone switching, Amazing sound

Weakness:

The only weakness I could find in this receiver is that the sound level for dolby digital and PLII decoding is much lower than the sound level for other decoding methods. If you are watching a movie with dolby digital sound and then switch to a tv channel with 5/6 CH sound your ears will be puniched. You always have to lower the volume first.

This receiver is amazing. You will not be able to find a better value for the money. The sound is extremely good especially in DTS movies. And the Denon's 5/6 CH simulation is just ausome for listening to music and watching tv (much better than PLII simulation.) You get DTS-ES 6.1 (discrete and matrix) Dolby Digital EX, PLII and DTS Neo decoding. You also get Denon's 5/6 CH decoding wich is much better than the PLII or the DTS Neo simulations.) There are 6 powered speaker channels with a 7th unpowered channel for future use. This receiver has multiple zone outputs with the ability to play a different source in each zone at the same time. You can be watching tv in one room while at the same time music is playing in the other room. One of my favorite featrues in this receiver is the ability to assign the digital audio inputs to different video inputs. If you are looking for a receiver with a price range up to $600 you can find no better receiver than the Denon AVR-1803. If however you can spend a little bit more get the Denon AVR-3803. You get 7 powered channels, more power per channel, learning remote control, 192 bit DACs and many more inputs and outputs. After using this Denon receiver and after comparing it with the sony and kenwood receivers my friends have I am a loyal Denon fan for life. Actually one of my friends who just purchases the more expensive kenwood avr-6070 returned it and purchased the Denon avr-1803 after we compared the sound and the featrues of the two. The Denon AVR-1803 receiver is a fine piece of audio equipment.

Strength:

can run for literally hours at a time and give off minimum heat. can crank superior sound with the best of them. many new features.excellent in every HTS capacity.cost less for older HK520 and mine is 2003 model.set up is practically idiot proof. quality made product at fair price.extra optical, S cable and aux jacks in front of rec. with a cover to make the unit look nice. compatible with my panasonic dvd/cd/mp3 player

Weakness:

manual could be slightly clearer. FM signal boost sucks if you are in apt, or basement. remote is wacky.need a lot of extra time to get to learn all that it has, but that may be a good thing for other folks.

This is my first real receiver and spent thousands of hours reading the reviews(thanks guys). for months i was interested in the HK avr520 and was all set to get it when the reviews made me add the DENON 1803 to the list. i have not been happier. it is lighter in weight than the HK, and from all I have read, it doesnt give off excessive heat, and i am using this baby all day and night for both audio and video. i have all the optical and S connections and running HKTS-10 speakers with a 150 watt subwoofer. the sound is insane, from classical to thrash, this receiver kills.I cant even crank it all the way, since the entire house shakes. most of the time its on NEGATIVE !!! As for DVD and movies, i am using a very underrated Panasonic dvdRV32 and it its very compatible with this also. movies are crisp, with great warmth and powerful sound. with NO hiss or other unwanted noise. video is exceptional since i am using all monster cables but optical and S inputs.setup is pretty simple. an overall great choice for anyone who want exceptional quality at a fair price. also looks nice. hope this review is helpful.

Strength:

major bang for the buck has all the newest audio settings

Weakness:

quite large

OK I've been researching for a new a/v reciever for about a month and looked at many many different brands. The Denon 1803 was by far the best price that i could find for the money i was wanting to pay. It has a great many features too many to mention here. This is my first denon product that ive purchased and am very pleased with it. It has plenty of punch and if u love watching dvds you can go wrong with the denon 1803. Now ive just gotta buy some quality speakers to do this reciever justice.
