Strength:

Good power, clarity and quality.

Weakness:

Lack of S-video inputs/outputs.

The AVR1602 is very good for the dollars. While 70w RMS may not seem like much this amp has heaps of grunt, even running a large set of fronts (12inch woofers)with bass set to full distortion seems an impossiblity (very impressive). Clarity is very good from this unit, and the memory function that remembers each seting for each input and etc setting for each sound mode is also very useful. For the dollars I would recommend this unit far above others (ie Pioneer which i have also heard/test). the only other consideration maybe an Onkyo DS494 which is 100 more anyways with less grunt.

Strength:

clear sound and cheap.

Weakness:

low power, just 70Watt per channel. poor FM reception.no fan for cooling.

i used AV1602 with yamaha DVD player S510 and Mordount short satellit speaker system(MS302,MS304,MS308).It is quite a good combination.the sound is quite clear.THD is quite low.the DPII is very effective as well as the DTS system. the sound when playing CD is quite clear, but when playing FM it is not that satisfactory. anyway, overall it is quite a good AV AMP,and i would like to recommend this AMP to everyone who has low bugget and looking for a good AMP.thank you

The most horrible remote, could use some more power, spring clip B speaker terminals, lack of inputs, slim features

Great reciever for the money. Nice dynamics, decent power, surround fields are excellent...

Strength:

quality, performance, good value

Weakness:

remote is too small and I can''t see the volume level from my couhc (display to small)

I just purchased a new home theater system. Out with the VCR and Dolby Surround (Technics), in with the prog scan DVD and Denon AVR-1602. It took me a little while to get things going with the sound, but none of my troubles were the fault of the Denon. My first listen was off a DVD, but it wasn''t being played in DTS or DD. 2 hours later I learned that I had to enable DTS and DD on my DVD player. The other struggle I had was no bass. I assumed I configured the subwoofer setting incorrectly, 45 minutes later I found the problem was with my subwoofer itself. The third problem was watching Pearl Harbor - no sound! Turns out the DVD has a bug in the Dolby Digital audio, I switched the sound to DTS using the DVD setup menu, VIOLA! Now that I got those things striaghtened out, I am very happy. I just watched the bombing sequence on Pearl Harbor. The DTS surround effects had me ducking from the bullets that I thought were flying in my living room. Great sound for little $$$. I haven''t had the chance to crank the volume on some music yet, but I can''t wait for my wife to leave me alone in the house!

The AVR-1602 is a great receiver everything was easy to hook-up. The only reason I went with the 1602 rather than the 1802 was the size. The 1602 fits in my entertainment center. One of the reviews said that 70 watts per channel wasn''t enough power. With my mission speakers, I can''t go past 1/3 of the way on the dial without making my ears bleed. My speakers are 8 ohms, and the sound is crystal clear. The 1602 is easy to understand and use, it only took me an hour to set up the universal remote after I connected everything. I used to have a Denon 425R reciever, and only the Denon surround sound recievers would compare in sound quality.

Strength:

Value, Pro Logic II, great for small to medium sized room, Dolby Digital, DTS.

Weakness:

I've found the remote can be a bit of a hassle. The buttons are very close and it's easy to press the wrong one in the dark.

The manual is also a little difficult to follow at first but once you get used to it, it is OK.

If you are a casual listener you can't go wrong.

Being my first foray into AV recievers, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching DVDs and listenening to music through this amp.

CD's sound better when played through a digital input (my old CD player doesn't get used anymore).

Weakness:

remote is weak (out of order second days after purchased) and not easy to use

I use it with Jmlab chorus pack and it sounds great.
DD/DTS is very clear with my onkyo DV S-535.
DPL2 is quite interesting for other uses in 5 ch stereo

i would like to open with a comment on the remote. why the hell is everyone cryin about it, ITs A REMOTE. unless these people are use to some high quality, fancy-shmancy remote that does magic tricks and dances around the room, i don't see what the problem is. i keep reading that the buttons are to close. maybe if you got off the couch and adjusted the volume by hand occasionally, you would lose some weight and your fingers wouldn't be to fat for the little buttons. anyway i digrese.
the 1602 has, for the price, all the power and features that any avg. audio enthusiast could need. i reside in a room which measures 13' by 9' and run my sound through B&W 602 s2's, energy take 5 surround speakers and a klipsch subwoofer. for a room this size, you need no more. it comes complete with all the features needed to run any home theater system (dolby pro logic, dts, etc.), and offers 70 watts of continuous power which is as we all know more than enough to power speakers 3 times as expesive as the receiver, not to mention that it actually kicks harder than that when compared to other brands which list the same specs. finally, this is a denon and simply eminates class, sophistication, and power. so for your wife's sake, for your daughter's sake look into this product, its worth the time.

p.s. i don't now and have never worked for denon and you can't prove a thing.
