Strength:

Power, looks, value(price), quality.

Weakness:

Read the other reviews, they are minor and easy to live without.

Considering the price paid was delivered to my front door, it was a bargain. Once I had it all hooked up I was amazed. I am running a pair of Audio Vectors and a HSU sub with a separate amp. My house shakes. Everyone that has heard (and seen it) is amazed. Most people don''t know what a good system sounds like, this is a great amp for any system. Using it for my home theater, is pure joy. I no longer go to movies, I buy the DVD and relax at home watching it. I can pause, adjust the volume, get a beer etc. Love it. They are not easy to find, and I don''t know if they are still producing them. I understand that Bob Carver does not have a dealer network in place, and had these built in anticipation of getting set up. Due to legalities with patent infringements by others, I hear Bob has been too busy to get his products out in the market place. Was this a limited production run until he gets his dealer network in place?, I don''t know. Maybe someone else has more info. If you can find one buy it.

Strength:

musical clarity, power, accuracy, fullness

Weakness:

None

This receiver is great. I was searching for a receiver that would play music with a full, rich and accurate sound. In addition, I wanted it to be able to play movies with 5.1 processing. My old equipment was Proton (a bridged D940 receiver and D540 int. amp); thus, none of the home theater receivers could match the musical sound quality of the Protons . . . until I tried the C1000A. I should add that the C1000A is producing all of this sound from medium to low-end speakers (Acoustic Research S40s). The sound is exactly what I was looking for.

Strength:

lots of power, excelent clarity, easy to use, plenty of connections for most applications, nice looking

Weakness:

no componet video hookups, sonic holography makes a difference but not one I particularly like

I really love my carver c1000, plenty of power to drive my system and very good clarity and detail whether I am listening to music or watching movies. I use this to drive my b&w 600 series II speakers. This is an excellent match for these and does everything I could ask a stand alone unit to do. Highly recommended, easily as musical as any other receivers I have used, and it is in the same price range as any of the reciever's I tested out. This isn't going to perform as well as some seperates on the market, but to my ear it is excellent.

Strength:

Powerful, clean, plays true to music and movie soundtrack without tainted and artificial bass or treble. The faceplate design is sleek and contemporary. Remote is easy to use with big and well placed buttons.

Weakness:

Not yet. No Pro-logic 2 and THX functionality.

200 watt per channel power brings out the ultimate details from my CD/DVDs that I have not heard before. Bass are stronger and the clarity is amazing--all being delivered naturally without tainted boost; Explosions are even more earth-shaking and dialogues are amazingly clear, this unit delivers high fidelity sound effortlessly. I dare not test the potential limit/loudness of this system.

No Pro-logic 2 and THX functionality but consider the price paid for it, this is probably the best value A/V Amp you can buy in the market.

Strength:

Power, musicality, power, build quality, power, Sunfire trickle-down technology, power

Weakness:

no component vid inputs, no DPLII...but come on, you won't care about DPLII with this kind of audio performance, DSP modes SLIGHTLY noisier than they theoretically could be - but this isn't noticeable in real-world use.

As a professional career musician, I wanted a receiver that would excel at 2 channel music but also do an acceptable job with home theatre. What I got with the Carver was better 2 channel than many separates I've heard and exceptional home theatre performance. This unit was the first unit designed and produced by Bob Carver after he bought his name back (thank you, Bob) and is made in the same facility as the Sunfire amps. Basically, it's a receiver that says "Carver" on the front with Sunfire amplification inside (200 watts into all 5 channels @ 8 ohms, and 300 watts into all 5 channels @ 4 ohms - yes, that's three hundred). The power is real...I have yet to throw something at this unit that makes it flinch, little alone run out of breath. As far as high-end AV receivers go (and yes, despite the astoundingly low price it IS high-end) it lacks some features - no component video inputs and no Dolby Pro-Logic II. And it doesn't have 487 DSP modes: you can't play the Matrix in the Concertgebouw. Sorry. If you simply must do that then get a Yamaha. Despite the lack of DPLII, a consolation is that its standard DPL decoding is the best I've ever heard, period. Music is liquid, slighty warm without being false, and controlled while still being expressive. 5.1 is as good as it gets unless you're listening to something that says "Theta Digital" on the front. As another reviewer said, the bass is natural without tainted boost. And in regard to "SL"'s concern about no THX certification: there is a lot of non-THX certified equipment out there that out-performs THX badge-wearing boxes. Don't be led astray by clever marketing strategies. A couple of other notes: this receiver (or "Home Theater Control Center") does NOT photograph well - it looks much better in person than in any photograph that I've seen. Also, the unit has more lights than the bridge of the Enterprise. Very cool to impress friends at a party, but there is no way to turn them off. This could be a distraction in a dark room while watching a movie. In conclusion, I feel that the weaknesses/criticisms that I've listed here are very minor, especially in everyday, real world use. Considering that I could continue with its accolades almost ad infinitum, just go out and buy the thing. You'll be very, very happy.

Strength:

clarity, warmth, strength and depth of sound. this reciever cannot be touched in power or pure clean sound for double the price, closer to triple

Weakness:

component video (no hookup) but I connect my dvd and other video straight from component to the tv, much cleaner

I could'nt find a reciever to push enough power to make my speakers sing (paradigm studio 100's) and that had the style, cleanliness and integrity that carver puts in this product. The more I push this reciever the higher quality of sound seems to come through. I myself can't afford 4 to 5 thousand just for the amps or reciever, and listened to 2 products that I was told might be able to give me the power and depth I needed sorry but both products cost more than twice the carver and did'nt do anything for my speakers or ears thanks Bob for this reciever

Strength:

Excellent, clear sound. On screen programming, great looking.

Weakness:

Some of the settings are not very intuitive to manipulate. Definatly need the manual at first.

I purchased this reciever, ahem, "Home Theater Control Center", to replace my old amp/preamp and Tuner setup, (I'm putting my stereo on a diet). I think the sound is as good or better than my old Carver TFM-45 amp. This bad-boy cranks 200 watts to all five channels and looks cool in the dark.
