FIRMWARE VERSION 1.10A AND 1.10C
The latest "confirmed" upgrade for the TA-E9000ES is version 1.10C, I have heard of higher other versions but I can not confirm of their existence at this time.

Version 1.10C or any upgrade is a "ZIPPED" executable file that contains all the necessary manual and instructions on
how to install it. Run 110c.exe and it will unzip or extract itself into five files:

1.) E9000ES.EXE (this is the flash executable file to reprogram the TA-E9000ES BIOS)
2.) V110C.BIN (this is the actual file to be installed and used by the flash executable file)
3.) MANUAL (contains the instructions needed to install the V110C.BIN file)
4.) VER_UP (contains notes stating the modification made since version 1.01A)
5.) CUSNOTE (contains instructions and notations regarding remote capability)

REMOTE CONTROL:
The main problems on the remote would only be the fact that it consumes power more than anything else and the fact that
it is too hard to read the information from it. Other than that the remote works fine.

Whenever the batteries of the remote is changed, It is recommended to SETUP and REPROGRAM it to work with the
TA-9000ES. If it just came from the service center, it should also be SETUP and REPROGRAMMED properly to work
with the main unit as the memory maybe changed or erased.

1.) SETUP/TOUCH PANEL then ADJUST
2.) SETUP/AUTO POWER/OFF
3.) SETUP/SYSTEM STANDBY/ONOFF
4.) SETUP/FUNCTION & USER IR to configure the components that are connected and to configure USER PROFILES if
you want to control equipments independently without changing FUNCTIONS that are currently being used with the main
unit. This is useful, for example when you want to control a DVD player while watching a DSS or CABLE input. You
continue watching DSS/Cable while controlling your DVD player.
5.) SETUP/FUNCTION HOOK UP to tell the TA-E9000ES and the remote what components are connected.
6.) SETUP/DOWNLOAD to download information from the main unit.

PEACE TO ALL! :-)

Review of E9000ES, Ausralia.
Had my E9000ES for about a week now. The unit originally came with 1.10A software revison but I got an upgrade from JD Eder (thanks mate!) for 1.10C. Built a RS232C cable as per instrutions and upgraded it using my Dell Notebook - pretty funky stuff. Never thought I'll see the day when a PC would talk to my pre-amplifier ! No problems experienced with the upgrade, plain, simple and easy.

I have to say this pre-amp is one hell of a pre-amp. It is big by any standards. The rear is very well laid out and well marked, all the RCA plugs gleaming gold. It has enough input and outputs to keep the fussiest of them all happy for sometime.

I have the Sony ES hooked onto my Elektra Theatre 6 channel (rated 160W per channel poweramp). This is a superbly made Australian amp, the sound from this walks all over the Sony N9000 multi-channel amp. I also had the opportunity to meet the builder at the Melbourne Home Show. Quite a guy !

Together, the Sony and Elektra *SINGS* !

In stereo mode, my Krix Esoterixs comes alive ! Prior to the Sony/Elektra, I had an Onkyo 838 into a Denon POA2800 (200W per channel)to drive the front speakers. However this combination of Sony/Elektra has never made the speakers sound as alive and with so much detail & depth that I have not heard before. The bass from the Esoterix is unbelievable: low, tight and controlled. Some times I wonder if my sub-woofer was on.

In home theatre mode, it is awesome. Whack in the "Lost in Space" DVD and hear everything from the fire fights to the ambience of the alient space ship crawling with the metallic bug spiders. With the "Midnight in the garden of Good and Evil" DVD, the beginning soundtrack and ambience of KD Lang's "Sky Lark" is soooo hauntingly beautiful !

The only untested part of the Sony is DTS but this will be done soon with Apollo 13 DTS DVD.

The only comment I have to say about the Sony is that at times, the sound appears to be really bright but absolutely crystal clear and controlled. Not sure if this is due to me adapting from the Onkyo/Denon combination to the new Sony/Elektra.

Based on this, the rating for this is 4.5 out of 5 but since there is no half grades it will default to 5.

Equipment:
Sony E9000ES pre-amplifier
Elektra Theatre 6 channel power amp, rated 160W per channnel
B&H HT custom built interconnects for the pre/power amps
QED QUDOS speaker cabling
Krix Esoterix (front tri-wired with the QED to the Elektra)
Krix Centrix (center)
Krix Equinox (rears)
Lynx 100W sub-woofer
Pioneer 50" WS RPTV
Pioneer DV-717, optical out into the Sony

Sony has finally addressed and hopefully solved the remote problems that owners of the TA-E9000ES have had since the units inception. Several months ago I forwarded my RM-TP501E remote to a Sony service center for the "brightness and battery life" upgrade. When I received it back from Sony, the display was somewhat brighter, with an LCD 15 second power cutoff, but it still had a short battery life problem! This morning, I received an unsolicited, surprise UPS-shipped package from Sony which contained both a new remote (same part number and external appearance), and a free AVIA Home Theater Set-UP DVD disc. The enclosed letter States, and I quote, "In an effort to continue improvements for this Remote Commander model, battery life has now been extended to 2.5-3 months with average usage. In order to prevent any further inconvenience to you, we have enclosed the latest version of the RM-TP501 or 501E Remote Commander remote control". Furthermore, also enclosed was a paid return label to return the old remote, with a note that it is not mandatory to return it, but Sony will mail back a $50 rebate certificate toward the future purchase of any Sony ES product, if you do! To close, Sony states that they hope the enclosed home theater set-up DVD (a $50 value) will help toward the past inconvenience we have experienced.
Finally, a good customer service deed by Sony! They finally deserve an "attaboy" rather than an "aw merde". For their effort, and for the great machine that is the ES9000, I rate 5 stars!

I have owned a TA-E9000ESfor about 6 months now. I love it. I hate the Remote. Sony should be drawn and quartered for delivering such junk with such a great product. I read on another web site taht the remote (RM-TP501E) can be replaced with the Philips PRONTO for the Marantz 5000 (The Marantz is really a PRONTO in Marantz clothing). I purchased the Marantz 5000 and it is the greatest remote that I have ever seen or used. It it programmable from my PC and downloadable to the remote. No more programming with tiny buttons. Plus I have a backup copy of my remote configuration on my PC. However, I do need some help. I have having trouble with the learn function on the Marantz 5000. It does not seem to want to learn some of the RF from the switching icon on the FUNCTIONS page of the RM-TP501E. These codes invole turning on VCRs and DBS. Any idea as to how to program this jewel.
