My son bought me the GTP 550 for Christmas to replace a > 10 year old GFP 565. We both agreed that the GTP 550 was really horrible - the music sounded like it was being played in a bucket. We returned it the day after Christmas. |

Strength:
Adcom equipment is simply the best bang for the buck.
Weakness:
I can't believe that this pre amp is getting such a lousy write-up. I have a friend who has the Adcom Preamp-Tuner and the 50W per channel adcom amp with a pair of B&W 602s and an 8" velodyne sub. It ain't heaven but it's certainly better than a receiver and pair of tin cans which seems to be what people are saying about Adcom's equipment. I plan on having my equipment for a long time and am more than happy with it. I would recommend Adcom to anyone who asked. I would rather have a Conrad Johnson tube amp or a nice Levinson or Krell amp etc. but don't have that type of cashola. If you don't have a million and want a system that sounds like a million, you would be wise to check out Adcom. They are not top shelf high end but then again most people I know would be more than happy with a Mercedes Benz even though it is a little less of a car than a Rolls Royce. If you can live with the Benz, get Adcom, if not get the Grand Slams and the nuclear power plant you'll need to drive them. Similar Products Used: I have a pair of GFA-565s with the GFP-565 and a pair of Dahlquist DQ-20s. If that ain't heaven it's liable to be as close to that as I'm going to get in this world. |

The Adcom GTP-555 is to music, what "etch-a-sketch" is to art. The "one" star is only because there is no "zero" possible. |
