I just picked up one of these remotes and it's an absolute pleasure. I've bought several universal learning remotes in the past but this one is the easiest to use and set up. Also the range is phenominal. I can point it just about anywhere and the signal makes it to the device.
Only a couple of flaws:

- 6 AA batteries...seems like a lot. I haven't had it long enough to know the battery life, but I hope it's fairly long.

- Button labels - I wish I could set them to my liking, but no LCD remote is capable of this.

- A bit on the big side. You've got to forget about how you are used to small hand held remotes. Once you learn how to use this it's great.

All around a fantastic product...and if my wife can find it easy to use, you know that it's well designed.

I like this remote only it will not operate my Mitsubishi VCR. I tried all of the included codes but it will not operate it and I do not have the original remote so I can not program the VCR at all. I guess I will be returning this remote and getting a Philips Pronto or somthing.

After going through several sub $50 universal remotes and having no luck in finding one to suit my needs, I decided to give the RM-AV2000 a try. I had read stellar reviews of it on the net, and was able to pick one up from Computability for a great price ($109). I have a moderate HT setup, just an A/V receiver, VCR, DVD, CD Changer, TV, and cable box as far as items to control. Sick of dealing with a pile of 6 different remote controls, this one sounded like an answer to my woes finally. After setting it up (which was quite easy), I can say that I'm very satisfied. It has enough flexibility to handle everything I have, and expand should I ever add any new components. Plus I had no trouble whatsoever with getting it to "learn" commands from my original remotes from various manufacturers. It's easy to use and read, and has a very nice bright blue backlight. For the money you really can't go wrong. You won't find anything better without spending $300 or more in my book...

Strength:

Controls everything with aplomb. Ease of use after setup.

Weakness:

Needs more macros. Size.

After years of looking for that elusive 'perfect remote' this Sony product came to me a Christmas gift. While tedious and time consuming to setup, the effort is worth it. I control a DSS system, VCR, CD player, DVD player, TV, Tape deck, surround proc, receiver and laser disk player with the remote. The lighted LCD display is perfect in the evenings. Size is on the large size, but helps as it is harder to misplace. Battery life is good. I would not hesitate to recommend this remote to anyone.

nice remote, but it doesn't make me happy. first of all it is unable to learn form the remote of my receiver, a sony str-de920, second, in the amp-mode there is no dvd input, the only way is to connect the dvd with an optical cable to the tv/ld input.
looks like i'll have to keep the original remote too.

Strength:

Easy set-up, huge "cool factor"

Weakness:

Three macros.

I purchased this remote in order to reduce the number of remotes I was using from five to one. I could handle the five remotes, but my family was having difficulty switching between remotes. The RM-AV2000 is the answer. My kids can now simply press one button, the TV, Satellite, and Receiver all turn on and the Satellite goes to their favorite channel. Great for Saturday morning. I found the remote very easy to set-up, operates all my equipment, was able to learn an ancient CD's remote. In addition to the great functionality, it has a huge "cool factor" that I can't wait to show off. Highly recommended. Paid 180 Canadian at the Sony Store. I liked the SL9000, but I couldn't get it to learn the remote for my STRDB930.

I got this remote but am not particularly happy with it. It is very big, uses too many batteries only has 3 macro buttons, and doesn't have enough of the features I am looking for to be able to program my entire system. The spelling of "sound feild" is a bit worrysome - if the quality control on the remote is like this, how is the rest of the internal design?
It is flexible, with quite a lot of features. If you expect a lot from a universal remote, this might not be the one for you.

I'm going to return this remote and try another one.

Sony RM-AV2000. I have been using this remote for a week now and I find it useful. I did however, notice that on the AMP mode one of the labels, ieSound "feild" on/off is mispelled. I have tried two units and both had the same
problem. Is anyone else having the same problem? I give it 4 stars for this and
for the fact that one cannot relabel the LCD buttons.

Strength:

Setup codes for various brand components worked correctly; 3 macro sequence buttons

Weakness:

Inflexible display; no provision for PIP subcontrols (size, move, etc.),

OK, I should know better. It was an impulse purchase at Sam's Club. And I will be returning it tomorrow.

The idea is good - backlit, touch-screen panel, customizable buttons, macro sequence buttons, direct access to components, etc.

The execution is nearly there, but what it leaves out makes this remote miss the mark for me.

Without the ability to customize the actual display, i.e. the button labels on the touch-screen, you need to depend on your memory to remember what buttons you programmed to do what for what components.

If that starts to sound more like a chore than something to make one's home theater experience easier to manage, then you begin to get the picture.

For $130, I think you should at least be able to label the buttons that you custom program. Obviously, Sony doesn't.

Of course, if all your components have all their features autmatically show up in some remotely logical arrangement, then this is the remote for you.

For the rest of us, pass on this flashy-looking but substantially useless paperweight and keep looking.
