Strength:

Does Everything, not limited by what it can do with it!

Weakness:

Price, and I got it cheap!

I got this remote from the net at $294 shipped. Note I have not used Pronto edit yet so everything is based off of its learning functions. I have a web tv not a computer so I'll have to take my pront to a friends and customize it on his computer. I'll tell you what this thing is great! It is very user freindly. Much points for the cool factor. My wife figured it out in a few minutes! I love the fact that you can lable buttons and delete the ones you dont want! Also the Macro mode is a blessing! I have this thing just the way I want it. I cant imagine how much better it can get with Pront Edit custome formating! And thats a plus this thing is totaly funtional by it self. I am always upgrading receivers every few years and I was getting tired of lerning new remotes, this will stay with my system forever. Oh by the way The new Pronto will have a color display, more memory, and cost about $900. What ever, I thought $294 was alot for a remote! It was a hard choice between this and a 400 disk CD changer. Well I'm am very happy wth my choice. I'll wait to upgrade my DVD/CD player when DVD-Audio hits!

Strength:

Programmable. Replaced all of my remotes. Easy to program and edit. User friendly. Tremendous capabilities and versatility.

Weakness:

Sucks up batteries. Oh, but I get free batteries. Could us a little more range. But the capabilities by far outshine any of it's shortcomings.

When I saw this online for the price, I had to have it. Its the best remote out there, IMO. The macros are a great feature for showing off and for the less HT enthusiastic in my household. Definitely a better mousetrap. An Excellent remote at a great price.

Strength:

Great looks, programmable icons, user friendly

Weakness:

Poor screen, Stopped working after 3 months, Constantly crashes and reboots itself

This is excellent to use and program and can be user configured to just about anything you want. My gripe is that the first unit totally packed in after 3 months of use and would just bleep. This was replaced and since then the replacement unit has constantly crashed and then reboots itself after about 20 seconds. I ended up having my normal remotes as standby which obviously negates the reason for having the pronto in the first place. I have returned the second unit to be replaced once again. Hopefully I will have better luck third time round. This is a bit worrying as the unit has only a few months waranty left now and for something which is an expensive luxury this is not really good enough.

Strength:

It has replaced 8 remotes that used to be on my coffee table, and is easy enough for my gf to use without complaint!

Weakness:

The contrast on the LCD screen is not high enough, so it's often 'washed out' looking. As well, there seems to be an optimum setting for the contrast dial, but you have to adjust it occasionally because it seems to drift.
The software used to create the config for the remote is easy to use, once you learn to workaround a couple small bugs. But don't be fooled, buying a Pronto is like getting a new hobby, because you will be playing with that software for weeks and probably never be entirely happy with your designs. It also helps to be a geek, because a software professional will likely have much better luck maintaining their configs.

I _love_ this remote.

If you're into the insane flexibility of the Pronto, and are not afraid of some GUI design, I highly recommend it.

Strength:

Works with everything

Weakness:

None

This is simply the best remote control made.
It works with everything including my UnityMotion HDTV decoder. it also creates a seamless operation between my Dishnet 5000receiver/hdtv modulator, my UM STB and my Hitachi HDTV. Unbelievably easy too program and operate.

Strength:

Replaces every single remote on the planet

Weakness:

kinda pricey

Well, I had a hard time shelling out $280 for a remote, but I was sick of keeping track of 5 remotes. Now I have one and it's never let me down. Without a doubt one of the best investments I've made. The Prontoedit software makes life so much easier and the fact that you can download sharp layouts and bitmaps for the display make it a million times better than the HK remote (whatever it's called). Besides, the HK remote is bloody HUGE and the Pronto is nice and palm sized. If you have the cash, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this thing! 4 stars for the price, 5 stars because I love it!

Strength:

Fully programmable,

Weakness:

Can't learn Electrohome, Vidikron codes

I love this remote. This remote is at least 10x better than my RC2000 Mk2. If you have equipment other than Philip-Marantz, programming will be required. With Philip's Pronto Edit software, you can fully customize your remote. The only drawback, it cannot learn some high freq codes like Electrohome, Vidikron and some Pioneer codes.

Strength:

pronto edit

Weakness:

pronto edit

Everything you've read about this remote is true! It will replace ALL the remotes that you have, pronto edit IS difficult to work with to begin with but once you get the hang of it there's no looking back.
If your having trouble with your signifigant other not being able to run your home theater equiptment because they're afraid they will "break" something, this remote is the answer. If you don't want your signifigant other running all of your equiptment because you are afraid she will mess something up, this remote is the answer. (Both of those applied to me.)
I know it's been said before but BUY THIS REMOTE!!! You will not be disapointed!

Strength:

Good built-in IR code library and also can easily learn from you current remotes. Flexible and powerful, programmable interface allows for infinite programming possibilities.

Weakness:

The user manuals could be better written. Touchscreen sometimes needs a little more pressure to activate buttons than it seems like it should.

Incredibly power and felxible. You can program this thing to do lots of complex functions. With a little forethought about how you use your system you can program the Pronto to do with the push of a single button what would have required amny keystrokes on numerous remotes. You can make the device interface look as simple of complicated as you want. I got mine for a mere $242 including s&h ecost.com which was a real steal. It's worth every penny at that price, but I'm not sure I could have justified the $400 msrp for any remote control.

Strength:

Great when it works

Weakness:

Does not work for long

Further to my last review. My third unit has totally died after 10 months. The unit has never been abused and never been dropped. I have tried the rechargable battery and normal batteries but it has died. The unit started to reboot itself about 3 months ago then eventaully just stopped altogether. Emailed the supplier but no response. Spent 20 minutes paek rate listening to music on the Philips helpline before giving up. I now have a very expensive door stop.

Not impressed for a unit that costs so much and I would not touch another philips Pronto with a bargepole
