I am not sure where to even begin. Let me simply state that I have been waiting for almost 1 year for my cabinet to arrive.

I could give a long history with details, but for a quick review I will simply state that on the FEW times when I was able to get in touch with someone at studiotech I was always assured that they were just about to resolve their issues and I should be receiving my cabinet in 3 weeks.

Most of the time my e-mails and phone calls were ignored (they do not answer their phones).

When I asked for some kind of discount for such a huge customer relations fiasco, I was told, and this is a quote "we are unable to offer you any discounts or compensation for the delay in getting product to you. There is a bright side in that you placed your order before the price increases at the beginning of the year; as the U22s cabinets are now selling for $599"

As you can see they take their customer relations VERY seriously.

I am waiting and hoping the final shoe does not drop and for them to declare bankruptcy, making me lose the whole sales amount.

Strength:

Sturdy build (probably the safe place in your house in the event of a hurricane or tornado), good flexibility for different uses/configurations, good looking, well thought out, easy to put together, awesome customer support

Weakness:

Door frame is so thick it prevents remote control access for components that have their sensor near the sides of the unit (a small price to pay for the rigidity of the unit). Likewise, any component placed at the extreme top or bottom of the cabinet will have limited visibility/accessibility. We opted for the metal screen which makes reading the small lettering on our Rega components hard to read.

Overall we were very impressed with this piece of furniture. If you are looking for a solid piece of attractive furniture to protect 4 components (and store a row of CD's) and give each of them good ventilation then I would definitely consider this cabinet. However, if you are looking to squeeze several components and supplies into this cabinet then I think you should just count on incomplete visualization and remote control access to electronics placed at the extreme top or bottom (or with sensors near their side)as the cabinet doors have a thick/tall metal frame decreasing the size of the window/screen. In addition the pins that allow further flexibility for shelf heigth adjustment preclude placement of components between them as the distance between them is too narrow. After purchase we found that the cabinet is very well built and VERY solid. The entire unit is veneered over 3/4" board and then reinforced with 6 1.5" thick rectangular steel tubes. The precut holes matched their corresponding sockets very naturally making assembly very straightforward. The back panel isn't made of the cardboard material that I have found in most other units, but rather a 1/2" thick plywood/particle board. Included in the kit are options for 6 height adjustable carpet spikes with brass floor protectors should you use this on a surface other than carpet, or flat plastic/nylon height adjustable feet. The shelves have good flexibility for four components via height adjustable pins but larger components or more than four components will require some creative placement. Other well thought out features include: adequate space in the back panel for components/cable access, back panel extensions for components that are deeper, felt lining on the bottom and top of the cabinet doors to prevent scratching of the cabinet, excellent door hinges for easy of alignment (again everything was very well aligned out of the box-in part because it is so darned rigid), sturdy cast (not plastic or some other flimsy material) base pedestal rings that cover the carpet spikes from view, two choies of cabinet knobs, and extra supplies (like extra circular pads that allow soft closure of the cabinet door against the cabinet. We had a minor problem with the cabinet and their customer service was excellent. We left a message (as we are East Coast and they West) and that message was returned soon after they opened. The person we spoke with called us back when she said she would and had our situation resolved in a matter of 2 days or so and we received a replacement item a week from the original phone call. I would have complete confidence in doing business with this company again.
