AH! LS Noise Killer Others

AH! LS Noise Killer Others

DESCRIPTION

The AH! LS Noise Killer is a small parallel-filter which is connected to the terminals on your speaker. In case of biwiring connect to the tweeterterminals. The immediate effect can be described best as "taming" the tweetersection by eliminating the high-frequency ringing, resulting in a smooth and clean reproduction of the musicsignal. The AH! LS Noise Killers are available with bare wire connection, spades and bananas.

Strength:

It's effective.

I was skeptical at first when Kevin from Upscale said all B&W speaker owners love them. "Just plug them into the HF part of your speaker" I'm thinking sure... (I'm from NYC, Kevin thinks all NYC people should eat quaaludes. He really said that. It's funny b/c I agree.)

Well, these LS noise killers work. The sound is a little smoother than before with no loss in detail. The highs aren't as bright. As for soundstage and bass, I didn't hear any significant differences. Are they worth $50... You should try them. They're worth it.

Why didn't B&W think of it in the first place?

cost and it works

I bought the LS Noise Killers as an afterthought when I purchased an Ah Tjoeb 4000 from Upscale Audio. I put banana plugs on and plugged them into the upper range terminals on a "vintage" pair of Snell Type E's with recently reconed woofers.

The difference was both noticeable and immediately all good. A layer of haze is missing. The soundstage has improved, particulary back to front. Instrument imaging has improved; bass is now more three dimensional and upper range is now more precisely located and more realistic.

Whatever it does (to RFI or EMI or ?) is effective. I am pleased at having a significant improvement for only $50.

The system includes:
CJ Walker table
Excel tone arm
Shure cartridge
sorbothane feet
Ah Tjoeb 4000 CD player
Conrad Johnson preamp
PS Audio amp
Snell peakers
Stax headphones
Cables and Interconnects from hell (dead companies)

One of the "weaknesses" of my B&W DM602 S2's was a grainy and sometimes strained sounding tweeter section, especially at higher volumes (above 80 dB). The Ah! LS Noise Killer cheaply and effectively removed these faults. The results are a deeper soundstage, much more air in the highs, and a much less fatiguing top end. I suspect the LS Noise Killer does this by reducing or eliminating RFI and ultra high frequency noise.

Highly reccomended! Way to go, Herman!

Strength:

they do what they promise

Weakness:

very long loadtime

After having bought a AH-offsetfilter and some noisekillers, I decided to order a pair of LS noisekillers as well. That was three months ago.
I found these things very disappointing!
Sound was dull and liveless, and after a few hours I decided I couldn't take it anymore, and removed them, and inserted them in the mainsblock, where they seemed not ot do very much at all (there were already noisekillers ther, the same device as the LS NK's).
Then I forgot about them.
A month ago, I did some systemreorganising, and found the little buggers again.
I then reinserted them across the mid-high speaker terminals and miraculously, they suddenly did what they were supposed to do; treble was cleaner and smoother, yet very detailed. Dynamics were not reduced.
That sharp edge in the treble, was now completely gone (I already greatly reduced it by using solid core copper all through the system, an AH-offsetfilter and a AH-tjoeb player).
After searching the net it appeared that products like this need a very long time to fully load.
Conclusion, the improvements are clearly audible and all positive, for a modest prices (< 50$ a pair).
Don't forget about the long loading time though, perhaps it is best to insert them into the mains for 24-48 hours?
